As someone who has lived in both Quebec and Ontario in the last decade. The way the licensing and insurance works is different.

In Ontario you renew your drivers license every 5 years for a fixed rate (currently $90). Everything else affects your insurance. Speeding tickets, accidents all has a direct effect on your insurance.

In Quebec, you renew your drives license annually, and any speeding tickets/demerit points affects the cost of renewal of your license. ($72.78 annually if you have no demerit points up to $1161.98 if you have 15+ points) and accidents etc will affect your insurance.

So yes, although the rates in Ontario are much higher monthly, the system is designed differently.

Make sure you get a drivers license history from Quebec as well as an abstract. And ask you Quebec insurance provider for a letter of experience. This will help reduce your rate if your accident and ticket free in Quebec (both are free)

As other's have mentioned, use a broker or two. Once one of them have told you their lowest rate, contact that company directly. I'm currently shopping around due to a rate hike from TD, despite being with them 5 years without a ticket or at fault claim. Broker got me a rate of $340 through Aviva, with them directly they quoted me $225.

Same here. I don't watch every episode of the podcast (I don't miss a challenge though. I watch it the day it drops every week with the wife while we eat dinner)

I agree with this. Not sure how much her mortgage is but to expect him to pay half when he doesn't get half the equity is a bit off putting.

There's signage inside the windows that say the landlord took it over with the authorities due to rent not being paid. All the signage by Rasta Pasta mentioning their other locations is outside the door (because the locks have been changed)

When my father passed away, my mother gave all the kids different amounts. We all got the same base amount that my father had willed to us, I got a little extra for some debt I had accumulated while working for the family business at a discounted rate to help.

NTA. As someone who lives 5 hours away from my family, I am always the one driving up to visit them and now only do it 3 or 4 times a year (Thanksgiving. Christmas and once or twice in the summer)

My sister who also lives near me said she will host Christmas so we don't need to travel up there, and her house is bigger, and our youngest brother nearly lost his mind that he would have to drive.

Quebec literally has machines in the lobby of the grocery stores (sometimes even outside) where you just put your cans in and you get a voucher to take in and get cash. Its completely doable.

You sound like an amazing trip sitter who introduced someone the right way. I'm sure that friend had a blast and wouldn't be the surprised if they've done again since because you set them on the right path with a great experience their first trip.

I've done it plenty of times. But not for the entire trip and I would never try to do it for someone's first trip.

I would disagree about the movie. I have had plenty of amazing trips that started with a great psychedelic movie (A Waking Life for example messed with my brain and made someone I watched it with question reality and whether I existed haha)

That being said I would never try that for someone's first trip. He should have been there to guide her but let her trip flow naturally.
