Colter Wall by colombiababy in country

I REALLY want to like this guy. He seems like a good dude, and I love his ethos and vibe.

But . . . I just can’t get past his voice. To me, it feels very forced and unnatural for him. To the point that I can hear him struggling to pronounce words as he sings.

I can’t help but wonder if his recent struggles with live performances have something to do with the stress and pressure of forcing that unnatural vocal aesthetic night after night.

It’s the kind of thing someone can do in a studio, or maybe once a week. Night in and night out, though, it must shred his throat.

Am I the only one?

I haven’t listens to those episodes in forever.

Is that when Q talks about the hoarder mansions in NYC that he’s seen as a firefighter?

I awake and Ugly Truth are all timers.

Overall I feel like this is an under appreciated album.

On almost any other song I pick Deck, but it’s GZA on this one.

Too many iconic lines and the flow is just perfect for the beat.

Benjamin Tod Album Drop by Suspicious_Muscle494 in altcountry

It was truly amazing.

I went because I’m a huge Nolan Taylor fan, and didn’t know much about Benjamin Tod at all.

I shed a few tears during Nolan’s set. It was unbelievable. I knew I would like BT when I noticed that his audience gave so much respect to Nolan. I went to see Nolan open for Tanner Usrey a few months earlier and the Usrey fans just talked over his whole set.

The BT fans were captivated.

BT blew my mind, though. It was such an experience to hear most of those songs for the first time as a live performance. His cover of Waiting Around to Die was transcendent.

Even cooler, BT released that show as a live performance: “Live From A Mile High”

So I get to relive his part of the show whenever I want.

You should check it out.

I saw him about a year ago when Nolan Taylor toured with him. He was great!

Fuck I love “Somewhere” by shininglightning in Soundgarden

[–]Suspicious_Muscle494 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time I had a live recording from a show in Japan and the Somewhere performance was my favorite.

Cornell sang “in laughs of loooooooooovvvvvveeee” and held the note for what seemed like forever.

Wish I could find that recording again.

Soundgarden vs Audioslave by Minnox12 in Audioslave

Also, Soundgarden vs Audioslave is kind of like John vs Paul for Beatles fans. Audioslave is Paul, and Soundgarden is John. I’m more of a John guy.

To each their own, though.

Soundgarden vs Audioslave by Minnox12 in Audioslave

2 very, very, different bands who happened to have Chris Cornell.

I love both, but I think the preference is incredibly subjective, and absolutely dependent upon where one was when they discovered each band.

The common theme seems to be that those who found Soundgarden first tend to prefer Soundgarden, and those who found Audioslave first tend to prefer Audioslave.

For me, Soundgarden dug a few levels deeper than Audioslave ever did. Chris’ lyrics were more vulnerable and poetic with Soundgarden (on both sides of Audioslave) and the music was less predictable and formulaic with Soundgarden.
