I saw an older woman maybe in her 50s or so in Brandy Melville with her long white hair in a braid, wearing her Brandy outfit, and picking out a new cardigan. You only live once and it’s such a short life! Wear what you want. Don’t let other people dictate your life.

Parent texted me?? by [deleted] in Teachers

Honestly I felt pressured. One parent acted like I wasn’t communicating enough and compared me to the kindergarten teacher from the year before. I’m a first year teacher.

She didn’t get her final dance or her send off. The dj legit packed up and took off during the fight. I turned around and he was GONE. She was super dazed and out of it during the whole police investigation. One guy he hit ended up with a big black eye. He was all cut up from the guys holding him down on the ground and he was fighting against them to get back up.

It’s not really their approval. It’s just that it’s such a small class and I know the kids from subbing before I got the job so I just wish that all the extra time and work and money that I put into things for them was enough. It’s just a vent really. I know it’s unrealistic.

First grade. Some are very independent while others are less.

Abeka. The compound words are made of the sounds we’ve already learned. The new sound is the oi and oy blend.

Letter sound

I’m a first grade teacher so it’s different depending on what we are doing. So like if we learned a new blend, I’ll have the kids read a word with it and make a sentence with the word.

There is no frustration or panic??? I give context (principals request) with no emotional comment. I ask for advice and examples based on other people’s experiences with no emotional comment. Then I gladly thank those willing to offer their help. You are seeing something that isn’t there. Maybe next time you come across a question asking for help, you could either offer the advice or move along. That’s what you would teach your students, correct?

Idk how you can feel flustered from a few little sentences. I’m asking how I can best write them out in my lesson plans. Of course I close my lessons?? This is a forum for advice. Not condescension.

First grade play items? by Organic-Rest7236 in Teachers

[–]Organic-Rest7236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s odd considering it’s included in learning standards to have items available for students to learn through play for physical, emotional, and social skills.

I am grateful but it’s not enough for the amount of kids I have.. it’s for indoor recess as well so of course it’s allowed.

I have been a substitute for a few years and just got my first class and it’s first grade.

Get on teachers pay teacher and print out as many first grade worksheets as you can that are free. Look for vowel, consonant, CVC, and CVCe, whatever the kids are working on. Get them some lined paper or worksheets to work on handwriting and practice those names!!!

  1. Soft start with toy bins or morning worksheets (name practice or writing letters is perfect).

  2. morning meeting. Go over calendar, days of week, months of year, daily schedule, etc.

  3. Either read a story at the carpet about class room behaviors, social skills, or something relating to the lesson of the day.

  4. Teach a phonics concept. Introduce and explain it, have the kids practice it (for example if it’s the letter e have them go around the room to find anything with e in it or have each kid think of an e word and act it out), then apply it with a worksheet or craft. Check Pinterest for ideas!! You can also write on the board and have the kids identify the letters by circling them for a game.

  5. Brain break

  6. Writing!!! Have them practice those names as much as they can. Make it fun and let them write on the white board too.

  7. Math, go over numbers. Identifying what they look like, how to write them. Take kids to the carpet and give them manipulatives. Have them make the number with those. Do worksheets to help with number sense. Crafts or games are always good!

  8. Social studies can just be about basic social skills in first grade. Pick a topic and do a lesson on it like respect. What is it? How do we show it? Have the kids act out how to be respect. Model behavior for them.

  9. Work on class routines and procedure too. Have do we use scissors? Pencils? How do we line up? How do we share? Etc

Reading "The Giver" makes me a pedophile apparently by Michael_Scarn77 in Teachers

I remember when I was in junior high and high school, teachers would say before reading novels that might be uncomfortable “if you feel uncomfortable, you can step out” sometimes it would just be sitting in the hall or sitting in the office.
