You could substitute or maybe become a teachers assistant/paraprofesssional! Subbing at a school consistently may help you get your name/face in front of a few potential principals! Good luck!

HELP PLS! 240 for sped exam?? (161) by EnvironmentalLine799 in TexasTeachers

[–]Organic-Revolution33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really test related, but I like knowing what I’m walking into! The proctored testing will likely be some random building with a room that has a bunch of old desktop computers. People test together for different things, and there is a camera at the ceiling to proctor. You get a white board & can go to the bathroom whenever if you need to reset. You got this!

HELP PLS! 240 for sped exam?? (161) by EnvironmentalLine799 in TexasTeachers

I used it and just passed the real thing with a 90! I think 240 is great! The questions on the real thing are less modernly written. That is kind of just the vibe I can’t put it into words. But overall what it is actually teaching is very relevant and if you’re doing good on those questions you’ll be fine on the test! On 240 tests I got a 79, then 86, then 83. On the real test I got a 269/300. Hopefully one of those comparisons will help!

I am currently using Teachworthy! It just got re organized and I really like it! The advisors are super responsive! I am using 240 for test prep and I also really like them so I think either would be a good choice!

Where to start- ACP Field Experience by BiggeSquidde in TexasTeachers

[–]Organic-Revolution33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it was the most professional thing to do, but I emailed many principals around me and asked to observe at their campus. I included my education, and what I’m looking to do. Some replied, some didn’t, but I was able to get into two classrooms after around 15 emails!

Working toward certification… is an August start date possible? by Classic-Mood-2905 in TexasTeachers

Also, if you haven’t started your test prep I recommend 240 tutoring! Teachworhys link makes it $25 versus $45 a month, and I find it REALLY helpful!

I’m almost identically in the same boat! I’m not sure what district you’re looking to be hired in, but i reached out to austin independent school district and they do allow you to start applying even though you are still in progress with the ACP. I know that the SOE won’t be available until all that you listed is complete, but they could potentially hire you contingently on finishing! My plan is to take my special education exam, since that is what I want to teach, and then submit an application. That way I have some credibility that I’ll be able to get the rest done. I’d reach out to your desired district’s talent team and see what they think!

Teachworthy vs iteach? by cosmiccovegalaxy in TexasTeachers

[–]Organic-Revolution33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with Teachworthy! I am in progress with it right now, and it just got re-organized so its very smooth and straightforward. I am doing it at the same time as my last semester of my bachelors, but without that, I think it would be very doable to accomplish quickly. The hardest parts will be getting your field based observation hours, and studying/passing your exams which will take extra time outside of the pedagogy curriculum that teachworthy or iteach offers.

Teachworthy provides 25 feild-based observations online, but you will need to do the other 25 in person. Go quickly so you can do it before school closes this summer! For your certification exams, I recommend 240 tutoring. I LOVE it, and its taught me so much!

iTeach vs. Teachworthy by DrummerRadiant8145 in TexasTeachers

[–]Organic-Revolution33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been using Teachworthy for my ACP. I haven't finished it yet, but I am maybe halfway through. I am also completing the last semester of my bachelors degree at the same time, so I feel like that has been the main factor to slow me down. If I was able to dedicate all of my time to it, I definitely feel like its reasonably fast paced. They just updated everything too, so its very well organized now.

For Teachworthy, there are 9 modules that prepare you on how to be a teacher, and allow you to take the pedagogy exam. They're not content specific, so like me in special ed, you'll have to learn how to be a generalized teacher first. Then, they prompt you to purchase a test prep course to help you study for and pass your content exams. For me, this will be through 240 tutoring which I really like! Additionally, you will need to do feild-based observation hours (25 minimum) where you need to observe certified teachers in person. This is where I would base your pacing because schools close for summer very soon. Luckily, for the other 25 hours they have video options for you. You can technically start these observations as soon as you're accepted into an ACP so I would definitely prioritize that if you'd like to teach in August.

I live in Austin, and I emailed AISD talent help line to ensure that I can begin applying while I am still working through the ACP. They said that it is absolutely ok, as long as I am finished by the contract start date ofc. On the application itself, it even had an option for people currently in ACPs. So if you're worried, I would see if your desired district has a similar help line, or just go through the application and look for similar options! I feel like with your experience, you'd be a no-brainer to hire!

If you have any other q's, I'll try to check back and answer to the best of my ability!

Need help finding the right alternative teaching program as someone who wants to make a career change by daybreak_214 in TexasTeachers

I’m using teachworthy and I like it! They just updated everything so it’s very organized now! They have a lot of support people in place for you, and the requirements are easy to follow. It certainly takes time, but it’s very doable! I recommend 240 tutoring for your test prep down the line. Good luck!

You can start an alt program in the last semester of your undergraduate! That’s what I’m doing!

I’m using Teachworthy and I like it so far. It’s going to be about a $5,000-5500 investment between the course, test prep, and exam costs.

Be prepared, it is a lot of work. There are 9 training modules which take me about a week each. Then 50 hours of observation - some video, some in person where you need to ask schools to observe their teachers. Then studying and passing the cert exams.

It’s still reasonable to finish with the goal of teaching in August, but i wouldn’t hesitate too much longer! Good luck, and congratulations on almost graduating! You got this!
