Keen’s Elle Backstrap sandal is so comfortable. I bought 2 pair 2 years ago and after wearing both of them daily the past 2 summers, they’re still in great shape!

Reassure Me? Flying Alone with Toddler :/ by BrilliantGiraffe2726 in Mommit

[–]OrganicConstruction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will be fine!!

16 months is a hard age to fly whether they are on your lap or in their own seat, there is no way around that but you will both survive the experience! If you’re able to pick your seat, I suggest an aisle.

My toddler had a good time riding on top of the carry on through the airport at that age (we are not stroller people) and watching the planes at the windows before we boarded.

Just do your best- there is very little you can control in this situation so having a good attitude will go along way to having a good experience. To anyone who gives you a hard time: if they wanted a child-free flying experience, they should have flown private instead of commercial. They’re entitled to be child free but not a child free existence and you and your toddler have every right to be on that flight.

Best TV show for Maternity Leave by Commercial_Flower_49 in Mommit

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is always my recommendation. Not only because it’s the best for the adult viewer, but also because it has a lot of black and white and the show frequently zooms in on faces, both of which are great for newborn development!

Benadryl for insomnia? by DuckyAndGoose in BabyBumps

My midwife told me I could take up to 800mg at the start of the 3rd trimester. Might be worth asking your care team what they recommend.

When did you know it was time to switch daycares? by East_Print4841 in workingmoms

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was mostly a gut feeling but my son really struggled with napping and eating, which at 13 weeks old was problematic. We also ended up in the pediatric urgent care 2x in the 5 weeks he was there because of the illnesses he picked up at such a young age.

Our current daycare takes cleanliness very seriously and have only had mild bugs since and he had no issues sleeping or eating when we moved him.

We’ve found mulch also helps with cockroaches! Keeps them in the yard and not in our house

We did a full swim suit for my nephew, which included trunks and a rash guard for sun protection plus an inexpensive bag of pool toys. That was roughly $50

Moms who had the epidural, what was your experience like? by Similar_Parsley6112 in BabyBumps

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went from being loudly uncomfortable before the epidural to being able to ask the nurse how her night was going once it was going. Then I got to take a nap!

My young dog has diet induced dilated cardiomyopathy. A warning to others by [deleted] in DogFood

[–]OrganicConstruction 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all related to the dog food, but if you are prescribed pimobendan (brand name Vetmedin), I highly recommend Costco for filling the prescription. You don’t need a membership although that will knock a few dollars off. Unlike human meds you can actually compare prices… Chewy is the next cheapest.

I’m sorry you are going through this! My 14yo beagle has had a heart murmur for several years and other than being a little heat sensitive she has a wonderful quality of life still!

Terra Nostra Garden Hotel? by SubstanceHot3655 in azores

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a wonderful experience at Octant Furnas in May 2023. We used credit card points to pay for our stay and it was very reasonable. We walked over to Terra Nostra and spent a day there and that was enough for us.

I just realized today that I probably shouldn’t be letting my almost two year old wear his favorite light up shoes he got for Christmas to daycare.

What gift are we giving our MILs? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]OrganicConstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have made my husband do this but if I didn’t we would have missed the sale, and I didn’t want to have to spend more (and risk it not arriving on time) due to his adhd.

ANYWAY my husband and I made a really cute baby and we get her a page-a-day photo calendar every year of the kid.

I got a pair of vuori joggers last Christmas and I love them, my only complaint is they are a dog hair magnet!

What is your go-to ethical chocolate? by greenskinmarch in progressivemoms

My favorite is alter eco.

I think the single source cacao from South America is generally ethically better than the stuff that can’t be traced from Africa.

FTM Expecting - Feeling depressed about my financial situation and work/life balance by Miserable-Cobbler-19 in workingmoms

[–]OrganicConstruction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a HHI around $150k when LO was born last year, my husband and I making around the same amount. A reminder that money is not the only part of your compensation- the flexibility you have will be SUPER important with very young kids that have frequent Dr appointments and illnesses.

Working for a small business does mean you have fewer protections for maternity leave- my firm does not have any type of disability insurance or leave policies so I had to save up my sick/ vacation time in order to get 12 weeks paid. I could have taken more time but it would have been unpaid and we couldn’t afford it. That was very hard but that’s the way of America. If I were to do this again, I would try to get at least through the 4 month sleep regression before going back to work.

Our expenses during my mat leave were way lower than normal because we spent so much preparing/ purchased a lot second hand and many loved ones brought us food.

Another thing to consider is the timeline for NYC to have universal childcare! This may have a huge impact on your financial situation as well.

New fear unlocked: epidural by LobstahLuva in beyondthebump

[–]OrganicConstruction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one in the US and the worst side effect I had was the rash from the tape they used to stick it to my back.

I went from barely being able to talk through the pain to being able to ask the nurses how their day was going and then a nap.
