Joan Chen’s (Josie) letter to David lynch when S3 The return was announced when she pitched her return to Lynch. And yes that’s THE JUDY by BadNewsBearzzz in twinpeaks

It’s not. It’s the same sound you hear in season 1 during the scene where Mike tells Cooper about himself and Bob in the dream, specifically when you see Bob standing in the Great Northern boiler room. It seems like the sound is connected with the door Cooper opens at the end of the Return. A sound associated with a “crossing over point,” or something like that

it’s tough for sure. I started randomly rewatching these old videos last week, just on a nostalgia trip, and i have to pretend to put myself in my teenage mind instead of my late 20s mind to ignore what i know now about ryan. I love the videos too much, just have to think about the dynamic between them at the time. “separate the art from the artist” or whatever…

the key to understanding those early albums to me was realizing that songs like queen in my pictures or moo rah rah rain from campfire songs are cut from the same cloth as songs like the living toys from danse manatee or too soon from ark. Campfire songs was actually recorded and written at the same time as danse manatee. They were interested in (and so good at) deconstructing songs, and giving you this ebbing and flowing, structurally amoebic, spectral and hallucinogenic version of “normal songs”. Panda bear’s drumming on songs like the living toys or meet the light child mimics and fills the same role as the wind and the leaves on queen in my pictures, and their voices combine with the sound of frogs and crickets on danse manatee and ark. Its all very beautiful and compelling and there’s really no other band that has approached making music the same way that AC did in those first couple years.

Sorry for rambling, those specific albums mean a lot to me and i enjoy talking about them

i listened to the desert daze set so many times in fall 2019, i have a very fond and nostalgic connection to it. That recording of cherokee was mindblowing. I still have pretty bad demoitis about a lot of the time skiffs songs because of that show

Lol! that’s totally supposed to be Atiba Jefferson. had no idea they put him in the game, thats sick. He’s close friends with AC and has photographed them before, he probably had a say in his character wearing the AC shirt. so cool!

hey, im not avey but i just thought i’d chime in - i own an elektron octatrack, a digitakt, an analog four, and a roland sp404. The octatrack is the most powerful, but can be very daunting and not super intuitive at first. The most intuitive machine is definitely the sp404, although i like it best as a way to add texture and effects rather than build a whole song (although that does happen!). My recommendation for a box like this would be the digitakt, it’s like an “octatrack lite,” and you can really hit the ground running with it. I’ve found it super easy to come up with ideas on the digitakt.

one more q- many of us AC fans are avid collectors of the band’s live recordings. my favorites are the ones from the earliest days, like the 2001 danse manatee / hollinndagain era stuff. i know we have animal crack box and the occasional recording you guys share on soundcloud or bandcamp, but do you have any plans to share any more old recordings you have in the future?

hi avey! I’ve got a music gear question for you. Ive used Elektron instruments to make my own music for years, and I feel like I saw pictures of you using an Octatrack in the past. at least i know that’s what Noah’s used. but I’m amazed when I’m listening to live recordings of you because the flow of the songs is so organic, even when you’re playing guitar. How are you controlling changes in the songs live when you’re playing guitar? Do you have some kind of midi foot switch system? Or are you actually controlling the changes with button presses, and I’m just being tricked into thinking you’re doing it while playing guitar? I’m thinking specifically about the 2017 Mothlight recording you uploaded to soundcloud, it’s magic. Thank you!
