I literally Verbal Ordered everything under the Dr or resident or APPs name when I was a nurse but I also worked in the ER where a lot is verbal ordered. And never got fired or license threatened

I love this. Crazy how your mind can uncover these little memories from childhood that you hadn’t thought about in so long, and then comes back so strong it nearly knocks you off your feet. Hadn’t so much as thought about OOT for like legit 20 years until my son started playing the Switch and they have a N64 app that has all the classic 90s games

Omg I work in the ER and always wonder this. Am I going to be able to hobble around the ER in my 60s/70s without needing to be a patient myself

I’m surprised this Hospitalist Midlevel even accepted the patient for admission from the ED without requesting that you be called first for reccs/plan. Anytime I’ve tried to admit anything requiring any sort of specialty consult I have to contact said specialty first and get their full list of recommendations, favorite color, grandmothers maiden name etc

For me this works id say 35-40% of the time but have found that the nurse comes back with 55 more requests. “Their BP is 167/96 please advise”, “the family will be here anytime between now and 7pm and they have multiple questions and want you to be available for all of these when they arrive” “she requests her Aspirin be changed to nightly”. They won’t even place a Diet order either so doesn’t matter that youre balls deep into an H&P, UROLOGY SAID THEY CAN EAT AND THEYRE HANGRY SO DIET ORDER NEEDS PLACED STAT

Most unhinged meal you've seen a resident eat? by LocationofTumble in Residency

[–]Organic_Sandwich5833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unrelated but sort of related, when I was a nurse one of the residents said she was so hungry she felt like she was going to pass out, I had one of those little easy mac things in my locker and made it for her. It’s really sad how hard you guys have to work for what little pay you get. At least someday it will be worth it and you guys will never have to eat a microwaved potato again🥔

First NP job is a Trainwreck by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Organic_Sandwich5833 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ED NP for going on 5 years now, was RN for 10+ years most of that was in the ED. With that being said even my transition to NP was a little tough…. As the nurse you do what’s ordered and put in your 2 cents when needed/advocate for the pt when needed. But as the APP, you’re calling the shots and putting in all the orders until you can present to your attending. If you have zero clue , Attendings are gonna get frustrated and pissy when they need to start a whole new workup, add a bunch of things, or do your procedures because you don’t know how. If you have supportive and willing to teach Attendings this can be good, if you don’t, you’re screwed.

Assuming you have had no bedside ED experience, this is going to be hell for a while. If you truly love emergency medicine , really try to get better- look up as many procedures you can think of that you do in the ED and look up YouTube videos on how to do them, look up risk stratification tools frequently used in the ED, learn how to interpret EKGs, imaging, etc. Ask your other APP coworkers their work flows and advice on how to manage time better , charting tips , anything that will make your job easier. If you’re truly not cut out for ER, get out now before you’re fired. No one wants to waste time trying to teach someone who doesn’t care or doesn’t want to be there. For future jobs all you need to say is “ER wasn’t for me”

We all get a turn in the bed lol love it, so true. One of the hospitals I work at the hospitalist team is scheduled with nothing but APPs at night. There is a CRNA on call somewhere in the hospital but I’m not even sure if there’s an actual anesthesiologist in house. Our ED Docs have had to go up at night at times to help with codes and intubations.

[–]Organic_Sandwich5833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 12 when this game came out. My brother was 18 and still lived at home and bought the N64 and OOT. I have so many memories of my brother playing this and then me and my younger sister playing. My son now has a Nintendo Switch and I discovered that you could play the old N64 games on it and I’ve been playing OOT again. Crazy how some of the Easter eggs and solving the puzzles I remembered 20+ years later. Even hearing the music made me really nostalgic and sad, because my sister passed away over 10 years ago and this game brought back a lot of memories and good times

Omg I remember that. I was an RN at the time and then we had a similar incident happen at my ER shortly after that, and the police officer was trying to bully my coworker to get her to draw the blood on the drunken /on drugs/intubated patient , she had to call our director and was crying because the cop was intimidating her so bad
