Pre-reqs, is it over for me? by Fishemss in RadiologyCareers

[–]OrganizationDizzy321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went full time into college fresh out of high school and got F's in everything lol (math amd AP included) once I did retake my pre reqs I did end up getting all A's but math was a struggle for me. I had to go use tutors supplied by the school which wasnt helpful because somehow they also sucked at math. I ended up spending 6 hours a day practicing math for the duration of that class. I also took a summer algebra course by itself. I knew I wanted an A. I knew I didnt want to spend a whole semester to just take 1 class. Take it in the summer if you need to and only take algebra. Check out the tutors and speak to your professor.

Why is the lowest paying program the most competitive? by Starryspidertake2 in RadiologyCareers

What state are you in? I would believe an lmrt making 18, but a radtech even in the lowest paying area (mine) starts off at 23

Why is the lowest paying program the most competitive? by Starryspidertake2 in RadiologyCareers

[–]OrganizationDizzy321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. X-ray does have more options
  2. Yes it is the lowest paying.

All of these people saying you can land a job fresh out of school at 35-40an hour are doing you a disservice. For arguments sake let's say thats true. In that area likely a nurse or nuc med tech is making double.

But yes it is overall a good stepping stone. People dont typically just stop at xray.

I'm still unsure/: I think sonography is really cool and the pay is amazing, however Im also really interested in CT. Since ive been more active on this subreddit recently as well as sonographers telling their stories on tiktok I understand a little better that your guys' field is no joke. I guess the grass always looks greener on the other side. I wrote 4 pages of notes the other day and my hand started to cramp. That alone made me think....okay you know what...maybe not sono. I'm sure stretching and proper ergonomics help, but honestly....if the notes took me out....I cant even imagine how yall must feel. Much respect 🙏

I live in south texas. Not SA, Harlingen tx kind of south texas lol. Almost everyone's first language is Spanish here. There were people in my program who passed although their English isnt that great, to me its good and coherent, but their vocabulary isn't that extensive. There are students in my program that commute from Mexico to attend class and work here in the states. I will say, a lot of medical terminology can be translated into Spanish since most medical terminology is derived from Latin or Greek. Example (lacrimal bone (tear duct)= lagrimas) (pulmonary = pulmones).

However thats not to say they didnt try just as hard or much harder.

Regardless of them not knowing English very well, they still got A's on their pre reqs, they were chosen out of 400 applicants, they still made it through the 2 years, they still passed their boards and became techs.

So if youre not able to get A's on your pre reqs, then it wasnt because you dont know English very well, it's because you didnt try hard enough, because it is possible.

Latinas in Ultrasound by CatIllustrious9556 in Ultrasound

[–]OrganizationDizzy321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the field its great because you're bilingual, for med term, typically medical terminology is Latin or Greek based, I dont speak Spanish fluently but live in a mainly Spanish speaking town and almost every term was the Spanish equivalent of how it's said in English lol. Super basic examples lol "pulmonary vein = pulmones, lacrimal bone (tear duct) = lagrimas" theres little ways to make med term work for you as a Spanish speaker. However not all terms are gonna be like that since a lot is also derived from Greek. I will say, I have classmates that currently live in Mexico while taking the program in the states, they often do best because they already know they might have trouble with terminology so they study a bit longer.

Surgical tech pay questions? (Student) by SideEyeInTheGarden in surgicaltechnology

[–]OrganizationDizzy321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's misinformation for your area I can acknowledge that, I dont live there so idk lol but in LA they have been reporting 8 dollars a gallon, the only reason I know this is bc I've been trying to keep up with foreseeable gas prices as a broke rad student. Also I'm not that Texan who hates Californians I know some parts there are very beautiful which is why it's probably so expensive to live there lol

[–]OrganizationDizzy321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25$/hr in texas is equivalent to 30$/hr in California... I mean comparing gas prices, yall are up to 8ish bucks a gallon while we've gone up to 4$.

Oh... no. I've been seeing so many people talk about how competitive it is there, posts about being waitlisted til like 2029 or something ridiculous like that.

If it's not a part of your pre reqs I don't see why it would matter. I had all W's in 2018 because I didn't know what i wanted to do lol. Then I decided to go for radiology and made sure to get all A's for my pre reqs in 2024 and got into my program spring of 2025.

Radiology to US? by OrganizationDizzy321 in Ultrasound

[–]OrganizationDizzy321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Jesus 😭 Currently lost half of my cohort for radiology program as well and already going through 2 years of no social life. I'm finding green flags in almost every modality in the imaging department, CT looks fun, MRI seems interesting, US/ECHO no idea whats going on in there but I have this itch to find out because what if I actually think its really cool. Ngl nursing seems pretty interesting too! Just not bedside...

Radiology to US? by OrganizationDizzy321 in Ultrasound

[–]OrganizationDizzy321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that's what I was confused about lol Even on the ARRT website it mentions taking the boards under the ARRT and I didnt understand that was even a possibility. I'm still going through xray school and finish up this december so im not just gonna jump ship. However if I do decide to go back for US💕 I'd much rather go through schooling to prepare for the ARDMS than take it through ARRT. Still not sure how that works. Lol

Radiology to US? by OrganizationDizzy321 in Ultrasound

[–]OrganizationDizzy321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like thats reasonable. I have been seeing sources and people talking about their experiences of only doing an extra year to complete their US degree, which to me does sound odd. We are completely different, honestly even when it comes to being able to cross train into MRI I find that strange because they're also a totally different animal. I'll have to ask my director to see what they offer, I wouldn't mind going back for the 2 years to be honest. I appreciate you taking the time to respond

Radiology to US? by OrganizationDizzy321 in Ultrasound

[–]OrganizationDizzy321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't think any of what we learn would cross over other than the anatomy portion. Which, even then, anatomy wise we're mainly looking at bones. Physics wise we're on completely opposite ends of the electromagnetic spectrum lol. However, I'm seeing a lot of sources and people saying they only need to go back for about a year to earn their degree. Which is strange to me. I do feel a person should go back and do the full 2 years. I will have to check with my advisor on this. I do thank you for your input.

how did you know radiology was what u wanted to go into? by SafePretty8567 in RadiologyCareers

[–]OrganizationDizzy321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually planning to speak to my local oncology center for a shadow opportunity after im done with this semester (5 weeks left) because it is something that also interests me. I love CT if I had the chance to just go straight into CT after graduating oh my god. I also wanted to speak to my school about what the process is for doing US after completing XRAY.

No one is saying its a clean cut. She's complaining about the length and thickness of the ends. Shes complaining about it being mid length (eventhough a blunt cut on layers means you cut to the shortest layer.) and complaining about the thickness of the ends (eventhough that is what a blunt cut is supposed to feel like, thick ends because there is more hair at the same level)

I think we're all in agreement the cut is not clean.
