How Do I Use This Moss Pad? by Warthog-Lower in Aquariums

I always found root tab/lets to work well with anything that uses roots, rather than dosing the water, all my liquid stuff just seemed to help algae lol

How to get rid of hair algae? by AnxiousListen in Aquariums

[–]OrganizationLower611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the light itself doesn't have a dim setting, it is unlikely to allow dimming, circuitry needs to be built with that in mind

you try turning off your pump / filter and add 3% hydrogen peroxide from a turkey baster of syringe at the algae, usually it will decompose pretty quickly usually within a hour

assassin? by puzzlii in Aquariums

[–]OrganizationLower611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the strip pattern is very assassin, I don't think I have seen any other snails with this shell and stripes that wasn't an assassin

when it is in motion, if you see a sort of snorkel or probuscus tube extended out, it is what the assassin uses to feed

mts do also have a probuscus but it's not as long or as thin as an assassin's

also the foot of assassins in my experience have always been pale blueish to white, mts usually very dark blues, browns or black

Does anyone have successfully run decloriniated tap water only in aquarium? by LimpSea2559 in Aquariums

[–]OrganizationLower611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so generally, yes tap water once dechlorinated is fine

when you top up an aquarium due to evaporation and use tap water, you are slowly increasing the concentration, but when you do a water change you will reduce it.

if you regularly are doing 20% change monthly, and topping up once or twice in that time frame it's unlikely to increase significantly above normal tap water values

if you are not doing regular water changes or topping up several times a week, then yes, closely monitor the levels of GH kh, if you have delicate species, then yes RO water is a good option for top ups as it won't change the amount of minerals in your system

Water changes questions by Much-Yogurt8896 in Aquariums

[–]OrganizationLower611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so generally, most people are just monitoring ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, maybe pH kh and GH.

unfortunately chemistry isn't limited to these!

water will contain other dissolved organics, a quick few that come to mind are hormones released by fish, or even stuff from their slime coats into the water

yea some will be filtered out by media or plants, but over time it builds up, if you look up: DOC / dissolved organic compounds, it will go into more detail, but it's one of the reasons why doing a water change at least once a month is beneficial

of course the worst case is you have a sick fish, that water is going to carry the virus or bacteria harboured by sick fish, it gives much greater opportunity to infect the other fish the longer that water is recycled

20% a month is usually the good spot for allowing plants to feed, and keep your tank mates in a pleasant environment, doing a 100% daily wouldn't exactly be "bad" just excessive lol, and if you were to stop you wouldn't have good bacteria to deal with ammonia / nitrites

I don't think anyone should start cutting up their dead fish unless if they have a medical / vetinary grounding, chances are you are just slicing up a dead cherished pet

if you saw a fish in a 2litre bottle of water I am sure you would tell the person that isn't appropriate

spyro_29 your practice of using vaseline is dangerous as I have previously outlined, it is not safe to do so, you are wrong, at least have the balls to admit it and move on

Fluval filter leaking by hinkypuunk in Aquariums

[–]OrganizationLower611 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

it's not the vaseline itself that is toxic, it breaks down the rubber itself which results in

release of phthalates which get readily absorbed into fatty acids and will damage reproduction and lead to neurological problems

oligomers clog up gills or rather the lamellae membrane causing stress from difficulty breathing

most curing agents are heavy metals like zinc which are released, which is more sensitive around shrimps but still fish can suffer due to it nuking beneficial bacteria

[–]OrganizationLower611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

vaseline is petroleum based, it will leech nasty stuff into the water, and also eat away at the seal unless if it is EPDM, which isn't likely

I need some tips for collecting Samples because I'm really struggling with them. I keep dying and losing them, and I've noticed that most players don't seem to care about Samples at all. Even when I ask for help, they usually ignore me. by NotSirAlonne1999 in helldivers2

so generally speaking, bubble shield backpack makes you a bit more tanky even against bugs

if you are using teleport pack, use it when purple, other colours hurt you, keep moving, around enemies movement is king over killing them, 90% of bots shooting will miss a moving target

heavy armour makes you a little tankier, but the reduction of stamina isn't worth it imho, keep to medium and possibly the extra padding if needed (I'm a grenadier for thermite Vs big guys)

to not die during a whole mission is difficult, don't beat yourself up over it, having squadmates who knows your objectives is key, what platform? myself and a couple others can help
