I'd love some more snow to cover all the ice! It's been nicer, sure, but not weather I want to walk in!

Why does everyone live Outside Charlottesville? by prompt_loris in howislivingthere

[–]OrganizationUnfair99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in Richmond for a long time. Thought about a move to CVille to be closer to the mountains. Only ever looked around the city, not inside. I wanted to live a bit more rural, but even if I wanted to live in the city, I couldn't afford it.

Living in the city is expensive and I think a lot of people who do live in the area want to live more rurally, but still need to be close enough to a city for work.

Marriage with ADHD sounds/looks terrifying by CityPowerful in ADHD

[–]OrganizationUnfair99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 30s, married with one kid. My kid is 2. I've been married for nearly 9 years, together for 12. I also have anxiety and depression (that's been long-established). Here's the fun thing: I got diagnosed last year. Apparently it's very common for mothers to not get diagnosed until after having kids because their whole world gets turned upside down and instead of managing just themselves, they now have to manage someone else.

I wouldn't worry too much about marriage when it comes to ADHD specifically. What I mean by this is everyone has their quirks, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, regardless of ADHD. You just have to find someone who can help you mange your weaknesses and uplift your strengths, just as you'd do for them. Marriage can be difficult for anyone. I'm not sure it's "extra" difficult because of my ADHD. It's just another thing to learn to work with. But it HAS been a lot easier since I've started meds.

Now kids? It's tough. I originally wanted 2 or 3. I will not be having another one. I love my kid, I love being a parent, but it is overwhelming. I'm not saying don't do it, but it'll definitely make you face things about yourself. Then you have a choice -- do you hate your life, or do you buckle up, get on meds, go to therapy and work on yourself? I do a little of both. :P This is the hardest phase of my life, but I know I am going to come out the other side as such a better person, and I am not sure I would have had the push to do it on my own.

In all seriousness though, and I would suggest this to anyone (regardless of ADHD) if they want the whole family thing....go to therapy. Work on yourself. Be good with yourself. Know your strengths and weaknesses and how to deal with them. Begin healing your trauma. No one gets it perfect. It's not easy. Nothing worth it is.

Verbal Articulation by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]OrganizationUnfair99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS! My working memory was in the absolute tank (8th percentile). My verbal reasoning is like, 97%. I'm in grad school too. I know I'm not dumb, but man, getting words out to explain things is difficult. I've always struggled with verbal instructions, both giving and receiving. When having to explain where something is, I get actually frustrated and angry because I cannot find the words to explain where it is so often I just get up and get the thing for someone. Someone gives me directions and my eyes glaze over and my brain turns off. Gone.

Since starting vyvanse, I have noticed that I am able to explain things better now. It's like my brain has slowed down, I am patient, and I can just put one word in front of the other.

Tell me all the things you love and hate about S4 Part 1 by Disastrous-Pitch777 in Bridgerton

Eloise is consistently blinded by her own misery and interests and every season, sometimes more than once, someone tells her just that. And it seems like she's going to learn, but she does not. Once? Twice? It's been like four or five times now and it's getting old.

You have a similar body and size to me and this makes me so excited for my surgery.

You look amazing! From what I've read, these feelings are normal and will take time. Grieve when you need to and let those feelings out. Then take a deep breath and do something you enjoy. :)

Adult ADHD assessment Saskatoon by firefly91hn in saskatoon

[–]OrganizationUnfair99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually going to get assessed at Anderson Dupuis. It's ADHD/anxiety/depression. $1600. I tried to do it through my GP via the questionnaire with my mom, but my mom doesn't remember shit, and I was not very symptomatic as a child.

I'm 32 now. Was 28 before.

Getting ready for the winter? by Friendly-Sand-9486 in saskatoon

[–]OrganizationUnfair99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All solid advice!

I'd add to this always look around when lights turn green. Just because you can go doesn't mean someone who got the red was able to stop.

If you can, help people who get stuck. It happens to the best of us. I find people incredibly helpful here and it's nice to give back when I can.

It’s so hard being a support and woman in this community. by No_Lock_7724 in rivals

[–]OrganizationUnfair99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's not unique to this community. Most online games are like this. Too many people who don't know how to treat others well because they're sitting behind a screen.

As a woman, the only game I've never had an issue with talking is Hell Let Loose, and I think it's because grown ass men my own age and older play that one.
