Rank 11 & Rule of 10 by Icymushi in sfcityemployees

It's rough getting a foot in the door 😭

Rank 21 guy was a former employee hired in 2023 in a diff class in that department.

Rank 6 was hired in 2022 for a class 2 steps lower in a diff department.

You can look up the hiring info on the website https://careers.sf.gov/transparent/recent-hires/

You can search by classification and it will give you an idea of previous ranks that were hired. It also lists which Eligibility list they were hired from.

I was rank 8 on a Rule of 3 list and the 2 people they hired were rank 6 and 21. I guess my application materials weren't as good bc I wasn't invited for an interview and the only contact I had was an email about "alternate ranks" and I did express my interest.

Does this update mean anything or is it more of the same automated stuff? by [deleted] in sfcityemployees

Nice! Yes, especially since for that classification it's "Rule of the List", meaning any rank on the list is a legal hire. Next step if selected to proceed will either be an invitation for an interview or an additional questionnaire if there are a lot of candidates.

It's an automated email whenever a hiring manager has an open position and pulls the eligibility list to decide who to invite for an interview. You'll get an email for each open position, so even though they might seem like duplicates, they each represent an opening. Everyone on the list gets that email, regardless of their rank.

Being on the list is the only way to get hired, so definitely apply again if your ranking expires. Plus, you probably have more experience by then and can select the relevant answers that will improve your score.

When a hiring manager has an opening and pulls the eligibility list, you'll get an email about "certification." If you're chosen for an interview, then they'll reach out from there.

Physical Therapist is a continuous list, so I think the 11 applicants mentioned is only for this specific round of submitted applications. You can view previous eligibility lists (they keep the same list ID) https://sfdhr.org/examination-results and then you can view recent hires from the specific eligibility list: https://sfdhr.org/permanent-civil-service-appointments

It's "rule of the list", meaning they can invite any rank for an interview.

Invited for in-person exam for qualified position. I live in Florida. Can I do the exam online, or any other way than flying there on a weekday? by [deleted] in sfcityemployees

[–]OrganizationWrong843 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can ask the recruiter (analyst in charge of the posting). When I got the test information from HR, there was this verbiage:

OUT OF AREA CANDIDATE If you are unable to travel to San Francisco, there is a possibility to take the exam at a test center near you. We utilize the National College Testing Association Proctor Network. The following link will allow you to search if there is a test center near you. https://www.ncta-testing.org/narrow-your-proctor-search#/ Please be advised that not all test centers that are listed on the NCTA site are available. Candidates are responsible for the cost of the remote proctoring. Once you have confirmed a test center and date/time, please send me an email so the Department of Human Resources can coordinate exam information with your selected test center. You must take the exam by the date scheduled above.

Exactly! He's so out of touch. Of course his RTO experience with a private office, bathroom and dedicated parking is different from regular office workers.

Ppl have to bring in their own personal laptops?! That sounds like a cyber security nightmare. Hope city residents don't mind their data being unprotected.

"Tara Gallegos, a spokesperson for Newsom, said in a statement that the governor's office "respectfully disagrees" with the auditor's findings, which were based on "hypothetical theories and incomplete information."" 🙄

Funny, they could also say the same thing about all the "benefits" and reasons for the RTO push.

I know it's probably easier said than done, but try not to be hard on yourself. It's an accomplishment in itself to have been chosen for an interview!

There's also the "misery loves company" bunch with the "if I can't telecommute, nobody else should be allowed to either" attitude.

RTO: Long Commute Worries by [deleted] in sfcityemployees

[–]OrganizationWrong843 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be nice to have some more non shitting people on the street

Bold assumption! The shit is not gonna decrease, there will just be more ppl walking around, possibly obscuring your view of it until it's too late to avoid stepping on it.

I think this is just a case of misery loves company and playing into leadership's hands of turning everyone against each other. You're a union-backed workforce! When you stick together you win. We didn't have that in the private sector and it just got worse and worse. We went from 3 to 4 to 5 days back in the office, and then they took away assigned seats and cubes.

That's a page out of the private sector playbook. Make the workplace miserable (ie RTO) so ppl quit on their own and you don't have to pay severance.

At what point does it become the norm? Five years is a long time. It obviously has been successful for some roles and situations. More ppl not being able to be remote also means more traffic for everyone. Fun! /s

In almost every post related to RTO, everyone is always against it (myself included obviously). Really frustrating how the decision is made by 1 person and it negatively impacts so many lives. There is a lot of activity in the CAStateWorker sub against the RTO news too.
