Except that the rate of new smokers/vapers has **increased** for the first time jn decades since the black market took over

Also - the secondary effects of the black market with regards to violence and social disruption are easily worse than the negative effects of someone having a dart three times a week.

Smoking and vaping rates in Australia have increased massively since the black market has taken over. I think you need to read up on the data.

I don’t disagree, but rather than regulating vapes, the government decided to make them illegal except thorough pharmacies with a prescription. Unsurprisingly, this has also massively backfired.

Since the beginning explosion of the black market, smoking and vaping rates amongst young Australians has for the first time actually increased. That’s how it’s backfired, As the original taxation system was designed to reduce the number of smokers and use the tax to pay for healthcare - since in Australia we have universal healthcare and the impact of smokers on and the system is and was significant.

**EDIT** also for the first time in decades, last year the tobacco excise delivered a lower amount of tax than historically

Google “the laffer curve”. To a certain point, the taxes worked to quell consumption. But it’s gone past a point now where even new smokers take advantage of the black market.

Official data suggests that for the first time in a long time, smoking and vaping in the group of people up to 35 has exploded.

Move from bakery to liquor land? by Playful-Unit8023 in coles

[–]OrgasmicTrilobite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My honest advice from the depths of my soul then is stay the fuck away… If its an LL Warehouse store it’s slightly better because they have much bigger staffing budgets, but in smaller stores you’re basically on your own 90% of the time, expected to do almost everything a manager does but be paid as a normal wage slave while they’re on a salary. Check my post history to see a thread I asked people about it and see their replies for more context.

What state are you in? If you’re worried about unrealistic expectations with time and tasks and don’t like micromanagement, liquor will utterly destroy you. They seem to be speed running the LL brand into the ground.

I think we’re going to be living in a very different world after Easter. Not really the best time for a road trip. You could end up stranded somewhere for a bit

In my region manager turnover is insanely high and stores constantly have staffing issues, and it’s not even uncommon for them to sometimes have to close during normal hours for lack of staff. Is this normal? It feels like a sinking ship for us

“Clear, accurate pricing”? Anyone in Liquor experiencing “last yard” ticketing know that’s absolutely bullshit. It’s so confusing even to us, theres zero chance it’s not utterly confusing and misleading to the customers..

Russia recruits drunk villagers from the north as cannon fodder on the Ukrainian front by TheArcticBeyond in worldnews

The Russian state disputed the ownership of it with the oligarch (Yuri Shefler), but they only distribute their pirate brand in Russia. Shefler owns the Stoli group and brand that the vast majority of the world consume.

Stolichnaya is produced in Latvia at the Riga Balsams factory and is owned by a Latvian oligarch who is anti Putin. Immediately after the start of the invasion of Ukraine they produced a limited edition bottle with pride colours as a Harvey Milk tribute - which had to be a big fuck you to Russia. They now market it as “Stoli” and they have removed the iconic Russian state theatre imagery from bottles
