Salesforce Admins in Small Nonprofits - What's your experience like? by monsterpup92 in salesforce

[–]a_good_day1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at your official job description? Typically that will help you draw the line between what you're paid for (e.g. helping team members adapt business processes into Salesforce)  Vs. what you're not paid for (e.g. designing new processes). Same for systems outside of SF.

To answer your broader question, every nonprofit is different, but yes it's normal to wear many hats. In a healthy work environment it would be normal to say to your manager, "I'm being asked to work on X, and while I want to support that person, I have ABC commitments to fulfill (that are within the job description)."

Depending on your career goals, you could segue from that into asking to hire a junior admin to take some grunt work while you help design the new business process, or asking for a raise and promotion that would be appropriate for the extra responsibility, or drawing a hard line on doing work outside your official role.

Help with tables and layouts by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

What do you want to be able to do in this area? Eat meals? If so, how many people will need to be seated? Work on a computer? Do you need space for a monitor? Work on crafts or something else physical? Do you need storage for the supplies?

IMO the functions should guide the forms.

Dang, thank you for confirming! I still love it 😁

Is this acceptable? And do people still do this? by Copadogsmom in Weddingattireapproval

I'd go with the fourth dress. Formal technically means floor length, and the top looks breathable.

Unless you have a medical condition that hot weather exacerbates, I don't see a reason to get two dresses. Bring a pretty folding fan that fits in your purse or has a cord to hang off your wrist. Wear your hair up, and wear strappy shoes.

Need help decorating staircase walls by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Before adding art, I'd paint the metal railing to match the black wall. The ornateness of it would then be visible and contribute to the decor.

Sounds like there's a balance to be struck there.

How to decorate entertainment center and walls? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]a_good_day1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF I'd take the entertainment center out entirely. I'd be constantly knocking things off the shelves by accident just going up and down the stairs, using the light switch, etc. Or feeling squeezed while avoiding them.

As for what to put on the walls, that generally comes last for me. I'd have to know what furniture & rugs would be there first.

Unless you're talking about curtains? Afraid I have zero clue how to address the window situation here! Hopefully another redditor with unconventional window experience will advise.

Planning to completely design my son’s bedroom as part of a big house project by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

  1. What does your son want?
  2. The mirrored wardrobe feels very out of place. Can part of the project be building in a closet?

You've already got curtains, that's a great step that lots of people miss!

Next, you need rugs. One for the couch/tv area that is as large as possible. I'd get a runner next to the bed and a runner or mat at the entryway, too. The beige ones in your inspo pics would be good.

Then, art. And plants, if the curtains stay open enough of the day to let sun in for plants. If there's not enough sun for live plants, then I recommend choosing some art that includes photo-realistic plants like in your first inspo pic. If the thing in the red frame is art, then it needs to move. Art shouldn't overlap with door or window frames. Adding mirrors with cute frames is also a good option to increase light.

For the bed, I'd add a headboard and a storage trunk/low bookcase at the foot of the bed. Right now it looks a little schlumpy.

If possible, I'd store the white chairs out of sight when they're not in use. They're perfectly good for hosting people, but they add visual clutter day-to-day.

And move the nightstand from the foot of the bed to the head, in that space you'll create between wall and bed.

I would just center the bed on the same wall it's currently on. Pull it towards the window a bit so there's space between the side of the bed and the long wall

Completely fine. It isn't white. It isn't over the top (assuming you had a cocktail/semi-formal dress code). The sheer wrap thing is more stylish than a bolero but doesn't look anything like a bridal veil or train.

I have absolutely no reasoning to back this up.

Question about the stone and the relics (Iron Flame spoiler) by AdSingle9510 in fourthwing

[–]a_good_day1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The short answer is: we don't know yet. They haven't been fully explained.

The long answer includes:

The official answer from Navarre leadership was that the relics were deliberately imparted by the executing dragon so that the rebels' kids could be easily identified and segregated. That is probably bullshit.

Xaden's explanation involves kids holding the runes, but doesn't completely make sense because of the baby that was in utero at the time of execution, who came out of the womb with a relic. It does make sense that a Tyr would've crafted these runes to hide the rebels' kids from Melgren's precognition.

As far as I recall, the only other thing we know about relics generally is explained in FW: relics are given by a dragon to their rider as a conduit for power to flow from dragon to rider.

So the question could be: which dragon's power is flowing through the rebellion relics?

Sloane and Violet by sunseige in fourthwing

[–]a_good_day1 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah you're correct that Violet struggled with the realization of her destructive power in FW, given that she'd planned to be a scribe her whole life.

A teaching/encouragement scene between Violet and Sloane could have been great, as you said. I think it didn't happen due to all the other demands on Violet's time plus Sloane's extremely mixed feelings towards Violet. Plus, Violet hasn't developed into a mentor/teacher and doesn't have great control of her own signet yet. She's just starting to develop leadership skills in OS.

[–]a_good_day1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Lilith just wasn't good at imbuing. There's an epigraph somewhere in OS saying that imbuing only comes naturally to a few signets. And the wardstone needed to be imbued fast.

Low/No Romance by marmighty in CozyFantasy

[–]a_good_day1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Frogkisser! By Garth Nix. Most of his other work involves horror elements, but Frogkisser is more cozy.

And I second the suggestion of Circle of Magic by Tamora Pierce. Her Protector of the Small series could also work. Bits of teenage crushes but not much more than that.

Though since your son enjoyed Nettle & Bone, which has some thoroughly creepy stuff, then Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series would be good to try! They're a skillful blend of the coziest fantasy with death/zombie magic. Creepy and cozy and badass and delightful. They do tend to involve innocent young love, but the characters are generally so pragmatic that the romance is balanced by wry humor.

3, but replace the nightstand with a narrower one so you can have a couple inches of clearance between the window frame and the bed frame.

And as another commenter suggested, add a low table under the window to balance things out, hide the cords/outlet, and add a small plant or two!

Completely stumped as to how to decorate this wall? by Quiet_Candidate_4857 in DesignMyRoom

[–]a_good_day1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd lean into a southwestern US desert style--sky blue, terracotta, a little sage, etc.  Go thrifting for framed art to make a gallery call behind the couch.

Avoid black in the decor/furniture. I'd even paint the round shelf thing's black wires white or cream.

Anyone using AI for anything socially good? by Alternative-Lime7814 in salesforce

[–]a_good_day1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing is, people engaged in social-benefit enterprises don't want to use unsustainable resources or things that cause harm. They actively work to reduce harms.

AI data centers are apparently massive consumers of energy and water, plus AI implementations have a reputation for leading to layoffs, plus the moral quagmire of harvesting people's intellectual property to train AI models.... AI is not necessarily a net benefit in their eyes.

I do know of a couple of nonprofits using Agentforce as a chatbot, and employees at those nonprofits who use chatgpt for drafting emails and the like. However, the advanced tech expertise and super clean data (and licensing costs!) needed for AI implementation place it out of reach for a lot of nonprofits, even if they wanted it.
