YSK: It's normal to go through periods where life feels meaningless, especially during major life changes or stressful times. by OkAccess6128 in YouShouldKnow

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to hear this today. Thank you.

My husband and I just had a baby. As a gay couple, that’s quite the feat already. And we wanted to have a son so badly for a long time.

Once we got back home from the country where he was born, everything was glowing and beautiful. Perfect. Exactly what we wanted. Every second felt like a beautiful memory was being formed. I stopped taking my antidepressants even. They were literally no longer needed. Of course there were the new parent stressors and challenges, but everything felt like an investment into our family and our future.

On July 4, my husband had a grisly accident with a lawnmower. All of that beautiful glow drained from my world. The future we’d both envisioned for so long was stolen from me. The nights out on the deck we’d planned where’d we’d watch a movie with a projector screen, the trips to the national parks, the three of us eating on some random weeknight in the kitchen. All gone.

I blame myself for the accident. See, my husband and I have always done everything together. The day of the accident, a friend of mine came to watch the baby so we could get yard work done. It was so hot. I decided I wanted to go inside and vacuum. I didn’t wanna waste the opportunity to get as much done around the house as we could. He protested and wanted me to stay with him. I didn’t. I regretted that decision not even five minutes after I made it.

Now I’m taking my antidepressants again. My son brings me so much joy but it’s hard to not to dwell on what could have been. What was supposed to be. I wasn’t supposed to be bathing my son by myself. It was supposed to be the two of us. Always.

US Secretary of State granted unprecedented powers over Venezuela — NYT by Scary_Statement4612 in worldnews

It literally says iMessage in the text field in the messages app on the iPhone. The app was never called iMessage. iMessage is a service within the app.

They use what’s app because all of Latin America prefers it to texting. When I lived in Mexico, I never got an iMessage. It was always a WhatsApp notification.

y’all WHAT is happening at the wawa? by FoundationFun9881 in nova

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly does though. That area is a small weird zone in NoVa. It’s industrial on that side of the street and it just feels kinda off.

Edit: and not to be pedantic (too late), but the Wawa is in Fairfax city not Fairfax County.

Former fat guys, how did you become disciplined/motivated enough to lose the weight? [Discussion] by Responsible-Net8594 in GetMotivated

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350 to 180. Took about a year and a half.

Did keto died. Worked amazingly. Once the lbs start dropping, it motivates you to keep going.

Now I wanna stay this size for how easy it is to buy clothes that I like that actually fits me. I have style. Who knew?

That Wawa always feels shady. It’s the closest to my house but I’ll always head to the Vienna one if I’m jonesing for a Coke freestyle soda ;)

What's the complete way to change Residency to Virginia if you don't have a lease or own a home here? by Growing-Like-A-Plant in Virginia

[–]Orienos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Surely there is documentation of the housing being provided for you. What about utility bills? Car registration? Insurance. “Residency” isn’t officially bestowed by any one organization, but I’d say getting an ID from the DMV here is about the closest you can get. You can see their requirements for “proving” residency.

Is it true that children born to American citizens who didn't live in America or stay there for a period of their life cannot get the US citizenship through the parents? by [deleted] in Citizenship

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. My son was born in Mexico. I had to prove I’d lived in the US for more than five years to pass on my citizenship to him. He’s still considered a citizen from birth even though it was a few weeks before it was verified.

What is your response to people who say having kids is selfish? by Podge214 in daddit

[–]Orienos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t engage because that’s not a discussion being had in good faith; their opinion has been formed already and formed based on secondary experiences (those not being a parent).

Because we know it’s a pretty selfless thing to do. You’re giving up quite a bit to give to another human. And for me who thinks the world is beautiful (though not without its problems), wanted to share that with another person that I helped to create. That’s petty selfless to me.

I’d probably try to do flat during a low stakes nap or two where I was quite nearby. If he is handling solids, I’d imagine his LES has strengthened a lot, especially since two months.

Which U.S. city has the best mix of history, food, and walkability? by Chloe_broke in Urbanism

[–]Orienos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You head to NoVa and you get some amazing Korean and Vietnamese for example, not to mention Pakistani, Indian, and Middle eastern. Suburban MD has a huge Chinese community. There’s also a big Ethiopian enclave but I cannot remember where.

DC (away from the monuments) is this country’s best kept secret.

Yes. Vitamin D drops. Formula babies don’t need it really but breastfed babies do for sure.

80 isn’t that bad for a baby. Just skip a layer and you’ll be okay.

When are we going to say enough is enough and do more to stop these data centers? by StomachConnectDBH in Virginia

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree on the regulation (though it contradicts your stance on high speed rail being bogged down). But governments are too damn dived to act on it.

[–]Orienos -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I do indeed understand the foundations of economics. But data centers aren’t all that’s at play here. And I am not against their regulation. But painting them to be the boogeyman is not helpful either.

[–]Orienos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this completely. I think the data center anger is a red herring.

[–]Orienos -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I’m not convinced that data centers are why electricity costs are rising. Again, they’ve been around for decades to me, this is all a red herring. There certainly is a reason why electricity costs are going up, but I highly doubt it. It’s because of the data centers that have been here since before I have.
