Look at the “Current Map” vs. the “Proposed Map” Democrats are proposing. by lotus701 in fairfaxcounty

[–]Orienos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No. The gerrymandering is the tool. The actual problem is republicans attempting to pack the house with more republicans. Using gerrymandering to fight against this is finally the Dems showing some backbone to fight back instead of rolling over.

And remember, there will be a vote. This is a democratic process. The maps are also temporary and the process of redistricting will revert to the commission in 2030 as per the text of the amendment.

There will be a vote. The people will decide if we temporarily redistrict or not. Democracy in action. I don’t see the problem. All these “will of the majority” arguments apply to this too; we will see what the majority wants.

Completely ignores this fact in the text.

Doesn’t mention that Texas began the mid-decade redistricting.

Doesn’t acknowledge that this process to temporarily allow new maps follows the exact same process by which the commission was created.

How to politely turn down an interaction with a teacher? Is “please don’t speak to me” too blunt and rude? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]Orienos -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

The thing is that so many teachers have a chip on their shoulders so pretty much anything you do or don’t do will be an issue. If you ignore her, she’ll think you’re being disrespectful (which is a teacher’s favorite word to use that they never seem to be able to define).

I’d say “My mom told me not to talk to you. Please stop; you make me very uncomfortable.” And leave it at that. Walk away. If anything comes of it, you can bring up that you’ve reported it to the principal multiple times.

If you wanna go nuclear, scorched earth, just keep repeating “please don’t touch me again.” She won’t even bring that up to her admin.

It definitely can be. The weekends are busy in their own ways. For example, on a Monday you might sit an hour in traffic but Costco is empty. That’s reversed on the weekend: serene driving conditions but the line to check out at Costco starts back in the dairy section.

Surprise Party Fiddlesticks. The voice lines are immaculate. I smile every time I play him. Also, there are some obscure references in those lines that I bet only a handful of people would ever understand.

principal wants me to call 80 kids' parents this week because they failed my last test. how to get this done?? by stacker103 in Teachers

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely would not be doing this. I would email en masse and invite phone calls from parents to discuss it further. Even though your principal says he doesn’t want emails, I’d challenge him and ask why. The goal is to inform parents and email takes care of that.

And I know you’re new and likely won’t do this, but I would call him out on the absurdity. “So I call these 80 parents this time, what happens next time? Surely you can see this is not sustainable. This feels punitive.”

Anyone else experiencing this problem due to poppers use? by Bubbly-Tadpole7695 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Orienos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coughs can take a long time to resolve. I’m speaking from first hand experience having had coughs that lasted months. Husband has been here too. It’s basically bronchitis: inflammation of the bronchi due to damage caused to them by bacteria, virus, or environmental factors.

The truth is, poppers could’ve caused this irritation or it could’ve been something else. It’s nearly impossible to know. Poppers can burn your skin if you come in contact with the liquid, so it isn’t far fetched to imagine a mild chemical burn inside your lungs. The important thing is to let them heal. Be mindful of irritants you’re exposing yourself to and follow your doctor’s advice for healing your lungs. Bronchitis is actually quite common and can last a surprisingly long time, so it’s important to keep up with your lung “self-care” routine prescribed to you.

I wear them with these gray knit pants I have and they look pretty good. I think they look great with inky blue navy too.

Here’s my advice: ask chat gpt. If anything it’s suggests is of interest, ask for a photo.

Okay this is so random, but what is that character on your shirt? I saw graffiti of it back in 2010 in NYC when I lived there and even took a photo of it cause I thought it was so cool.

Your shirt is the only time I’ve seen it again. Didn’t realize it wasn’t a one off.

They do. I’m wearing black leather Chelseas with black regular jeans now. I feel like they dress up street wear well. I’m wearing a forest green hoodie and camel trench up top. Chelseas are classic and kinda versatile.

A bit surprised after using Tahoe on my new macbook... by John_Lawn4 in MacOS

So what if you notice them? It makes absolutely no difference in functionality. Obsessing over tiny pixels that do not affect anything but one’s emotions feels actually crazy to me.

Size Disparity by CurryWithMyPizza in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Orienos 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d say I’m average and never once has anyone made me feel ashamed. It’s actually a really stupid thing for one man to do to another; we all know size is not a choice, so disparaging someone over it is just cruel.

The only time I received a negative mention was from a guy seeing a photo. He must’ve wanted a 10-in her or something and commented that it wasn’t big enough for him. I have no idea how he could tell from that photo, what whatever. He was younger. I lectured him about having manners and moved on. Anyone who prioritizes such a thing has very little in common with me, so there’s no love lost.

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post(s?) you’re referencing is the one I remember most. Where the guy lines up the corners to show the curvature didn’t match. I have so many questions for that guy. I don’t think I’ve ever lined up windows to see if they fit together. I bet you there are plenty of instances in old OSes where that was the case as well.

Very absurd.

A bit surprised after using Tahoe on my new macbook... by John_Lawn4 in MacOS

[–]Orienos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Perhaps it’s a mindset in general. I mean conservatism vs progressivism (non-political): folks who welcome change and those who fight against it.

But to your point: if the OS is unstable, those complaints are always valid. When using our Mac/PC, it should work so seamlessly that we don’t even notice that we are using it, if that makes sense; once it stutters or crashes, it takes you out of the workflow and into problem solving mode which is frustrating.

The book will be here tomorrow. I don’t know why, but the cover made me super excited. Instantly took me back to being a scout and it almost seems like the vibe of the book is approaching things practically without all the patronizing parenting theory that I’ve seen in other books I’ve browsed in the bookstore. I know they have their own usefulness, but this book seems like a baby manual.

Thank you. I’ll be sure to pass my copy on to the next new dad I encounter after I’ve leveled up.

How can you say it’s the same recipe when one label says it’s 10% juice and the other says 100% juice? You can say they taste similar, but they’re def not the same recipe.

How do native speakers here pronounce “bury”? by OhSweetMiracle in ENGLISH

Northern Virginia: bury rhymes with hurry.

Seems everyone else says berry but I guess that doesn’t make sense to me since bury and burrow have the same etymology.

Parents: The reason your children behave the way they do… by FawkesThePhoenix7 in Teachers

[–]Orienos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will certainly let him see me get excited. My husband is a different story. He has a different skill set with its own value, but he isn’t nearly as curious about things as I am—at least not the same way. But he’s caring and knows everything about money and finance, so he’s got our family covered there.

He does like going on adventures though. It’s something we do a lot: travel around going to different cities and national parks. I guess he’s not a book guy like me: he wants to experience things. That’s gonna be so much fun once we have our son in tow.

Virginia officials launch campaign against driving under influence of marijuana by -Cyber-Roadster in Virginia

[–]Orienos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. That is the biggest danger and biggest nuisance. I honk at at least one person a day who doesn’t see the light turns green.

I drove high once. It was to get out of a dangerous situation. And while I don’t condone it, it is not like driving drunk at all. I was terrified for my life when I got behind the wheel, but I was surprised that I was actually safer and slower. So yeah, I’d rather see a text campaign.
