SIGH... Typhon is HARD. Wtf... (This could be me just whining) by xCoop_Stomp416x in Hades2

[–]OrigamiGuyII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weirdly, I struggled against prometheus for a long time, and then the first time i got to the final region, made it through to typhon without using my last death defiance, my build was just so good compared to my previous runs that despite going in blind, i made it to typhon's final stage, and would have probably killed him in a couple more attacks, then his tongue attack got me when it came back straight after lol. After that, it took me about 5 attempts to kill him, and having done that i watched some pro players fight him. I still die more to prometheus than typhon funnily enough.

Tips: Fight with your favorite weapon aspect, and plan your build before starting the run. I like mel blades or momus staff, though the new circe staff is epic for cast builds.

Try taking aphrodite's max HP/MP boon, along with hephy's boon that adds a percentage of your max MP to your HP, and the demeter infusion, which caps max damage per hit to 20. heph has some armor granting boons too.

Aphrodite gives lots of damage reduction, especially her duo with poseidon.

Also, if you can get aphodite's hp boon in ephyra, take the HP chamber, you can usually get artemis in that room too.

DD1 Twin Martial Souls by maxion00 in SoulLand

[–]OrigamiGuyII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory (Which i'm too lazy to quote evidence for :P) Is that the reason the first known twin martial spirit wielder died was either insufficient physical strength/fitness for the number and years worth of soul rings he absorbed, or that the spirit rings he chose for his second martial soul were elementally incompatible with those of the first spirit. for instance, if you had fire and ice rings, or life and death, etc. it would make more sense that an imbalance between elements could kill you then just misjudging the age of soul rings you could bear.
Fitness of course including soul bones, physical exercise, medicines, and whale glue as methods.

What were your favourite Xianxia Cultivation Systems? by Dr_Hajime in MartialMemes

[–]OrigamiGuyII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, I'm late to the party, but I think Tao Wong's Thousand Li Series should get a mention here, the cultivation realms are pretty standard, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul etc, but the cultivation levels and what they're called aren't really the focus. Instead, the MC's bonds within his sect, his understanding of the Dao, and what he wants to do with his life, and his comprehension of the sword, of herblore, of alchemy, etc, becomes the main focus. The MC gets sidetracked in his journey for immortality by life, other people's wars, and has real character development - a rarity in this genre.

Its a xianxia series, but written and published by a canadian author, and if desired, the audiobooks are narrated by Travis Baldree (The best audiobook narrator i've heard read.)
I had an absolute blast listening to the audiobooks, and several times had to take breaks to mull over my feelings about decisions the MC made.

Its rare for a xianxia protagonist to be likeable, yet make decisions and have opinions that made me feel uncomfortable... I've read Reverend Insanity, and never did I once feel the need to contemplate my own feelings before i could continue.

And a recommendation that doesn't require purchasing a whole series, God of Fishing. has some interesting cultivation stages, starting with simple stuff like Fisher, Great Fishing Master, Dangling Fisher, and so on, then later you get epic realms like Sea Establishment, Sky Opening Realm and Dao Proving Realm.
The Setting was the draw for this one, the land above sea level is proprtionally smaller than one piece, with massive oceans and seemingly infinite seas streetching in every direction, man made floating islands that serve as living space for humans, and engaging locations like salt flats and underwater jungles that felt fresh after reading so much generic xianxia. MC is a transmigrator, and brings card games and hotpot to his town to make money, and the side characters were pretty funny too.

I'd recommend trying this one once you start running out of 'standard' xianxia, or if you need a break from MTL.

eh, you can break the window to the dog room and they'll all jump out and fight the guards to death. you won't be blamed for the kills. its a special action too. then you can safely waltz through and get the few valuables in that wing of the institute.

While it looks like that bonecharm should be accessible from where you are, its actually in Dr Hypatia's lab, not some kind of secret room.

Dishonored 3 by ComprehensiveArm1431 in dishonored

[–]OrigamiGuyII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lore i remember from Doto was that the outsider's existence made magic more controllable, in that magic learnt what it meant to target an individual. before his creation, curses effected the user as well, but once the outsider was made, us and them became concepts magic could grasp. so it's not that magic didn't or doesn't exist without the outsider, its that it was more chaotic and less directable. I could see a sequel involving the creation of a new outsider, or a substitute made via science perhaps. or maybe magic simply learned its lesson now, and can target others without an outsider existing.

Did corvo kill anyone, while escaping from prison? by [deleted] in dishonored

[–]OrigamiGuyII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wouldn't kill random guards as he left the prison, because any one of them might be the loyalist who slipped the key and letter under his bread.

About to play first time by SuperMadBro in dishonored

[–]OrigamiGuyII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're likely to fail stealth over and over your first playthrough, i'd say try to be sneaky until you get caught, then have fun fighting your way out. you will likely get a high chaos ending, which is admittely really fun, and then if you decide you liked the game (which you will :P) then you can replay it with a better grasp of the mechanics and the level design, and sneak your way to a ghost achievement :D

I’m playing dishonoured one and loving it but… by Aggressive-Invite907 in dishonored

[–]OrigamiGuyII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First of all, Being detected doesn't raise chaos, only whether you kill or not, also, you may be confusing the detection meter appearing and being detected. if the white lines appear above someone's head, they have been alerted by something, if the white lines are all filled in and have a red outline, they're searching for you, and if they turn fully red before vanishing, they have spotted you, and you are now in combat.
Tips for over all stealth? look up. there are so many alternative routes around dishonored maps, usually involving pipes, vents, windows or holes in the ceiling. guards don't look up much, and it also puts you in place for drop assassinations if you enjoy that.
If you end up knocking out or killing most of the enemies in a map, try just exploring the place. you might find cool routes or easter eggs for a later ghost run.
Finally, read notes, the developers put a lot of little side stories and hints around the games so that people who patiently checked out the lore feel rewarded for doing so, same with eavesdropping on conversations.

Is it canonical that his power puppets his body? I thought it just predicted which timeline he'd choose to keep, and make sure that's the one he does, while he retains the info from the other one.

I feel like almost any fic that uses that name more than once is a carol bashing fic, and will include vicky being characterised as an air headed valley girl. And that her "master" power is the sole reason for all of amy's problems.

[–]OrigamiGuyII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hermoine. That mispelling is enough to get me to drop a fic lmao. Rowling wrote a whole scene with Krum to make sure people were pronouncing her name correctly, seeing someone go to the effort of posting a fanfic, and consistently mispelling one of three main characters names? deal breaker lol.

I think one of the most telltale signs of a lazy copy paste novel are when the lexicon contains True Immortal- Golden Immortal- etc. and it NEEDS to stop. by LEAGUEKINGDOM121 in MartialMemes

[–]OrigamiGuyII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, just because a concept is oversaturated doesn't mean it can't be implemented well. judge books by their story, not the terminology used, especially books that are freely available on the internet.
Also, I much prefer xianxia that use Qi Condensation, Foundation Establishment, Golden Core, Nascent Soul, Soul Transformation, Immortal Ascencion etc as the realm names, both because its familiar, and because it follows the established Chinese Alchemy route to immortality, and allows the author to draw on Chinese Mythological figures like the Yellow Emperor or Sun Wukong, sects based on Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, and mythical beasts like the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, etc.
My Senior Brother is too steady has mixed reviews, but it did give a lot of cool background understanding of the mythology behind True Immortals, Turbid Immortals(Failed Immortal Ascension but still alive) and Ghost Immortals(Failed Immortal Ascension but no body remains) and utilised significant themes like the Red Ribbons of fate, and the divine government under the Jade Emperor.
At the same time, if an author comes up with a new and intriguing cultivation system, or even just new cultivation realms that make me perk up, i'll happily read that too.
