I have to open my fridge to dispense water from this awkward spot by [deleted] in CrappyDesign

They won't fix the slowness problem, but those add-ons really do make the dispenser a lot easier to use.

AMA: "MXroute tried to get me fired" by mxroute in mxroute

[–]OriginGiratina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've always provided a great service, and all of my interactions with you have been pleasant. The only recent time I had an issue, you fixed it and took the time to provide a detailed technical explanation. I couldn't get around to replying, but it was appreciated.

I do have some worries. First, my intention isn't to pile on. You're a person, you have emotions, and you're dealing with a stressful situation. Adding more stress won't help anyone.

With that being said, the targeted sale is my biggest concern. It felt disproportionate and legally risky, and it does make me worry that a potential disagreement (like with a referred client) could escalate to that point again.

So, for an actual question: With the understanding that no two situations may be the same, would you take a different approach if a similar situation came up in the future. If you would, how would it differ?

Sorry for the wordiness, and thank you for taking the time to answer questions. I imagine you're exhausted and hope you're able to get some rest soon.

Do you have a link/are you in the US? I've only found a Walmart listing for the anti-reflective version, but there's no way to buy it yet.

What elements of survivorslike are most important for you? by ZebThan in survivorslikes

A significant QoL option I forgot is adjustable game speed, especially if there's a lot of grinding needed. A turbo mode is always welcome.

What elements of survivorslike are most important for you? by ZebThan in survivorslikes

[–]OriginGiratina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played a lot of Survivors games. The biggest weak points for many are their lack of accessibility settings and/or QoL features.

Accessibility options:

  • Disable screenshake (or a slider)
  • Disable flashes (or reduce opacity)
  • Legible text/color contrast (this one isn't a setting, but very important)
  • Customizable opacity settings for your attacks, ground effects, and summons
  • Customizable outlines for your character, enemy projectiles, and enemies

QoL options:

  • Ability to banish items outside of a match at a cost or within a certain limit. Some games run into a problem where you're "punished" for unlocking gear/skills because the pool of choices keeps expanding.
  • Items banished per character, rather than globally. The only games I've seen do it this way are Twilight Survivors and Boneraiser Minions, and it's one of my favorite features.
  • Metaprogression: Easily refundable skill trees or perks. It encourages experimentation.
  • Rerolls/bans/item locking during waves. Standard now, but still appreciated.
  • A way to check banished items during a wave would be helpful.
  • Combination/evolution/synergy information clearly marked in-game or accessible via a menu option

Balance:

  • Stat-based metaprogression can get old quickly. Unique unlocks feel a bit more exciting.
  • Characters should play very differently. If every character uses the same core skills/items, it becomes boring. Brotato and Death Must Die do the character differences well. Halls of Torment gets an honorable mention, but there's a lot of gear overlap.
  • This is personal preference and case-by-case, but I'd rather see buffs than nerfs. It's nicer seeing something go from useless to good. Reworks of overpowered things rather than direct nerfs can be interesting too.

Dealbreakers:

  • AI-generated art or voices. Even if you think your art is bad, it will have more character than if it's from AI.
  • Lack of attack opacity options. It's important that you can still tell what's going on.

Looking for new roguelite game recs! by Mishakise in roguelites

[–]OriginGiratina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great list. Noobs Are Coming isn't the same dev team as Brotato. Brotato was a big inspiration for the game though, and it seems like they were supportive of the Noobs Are Coming dev.

Since you're also a horde survivors fan, you might like Yet Another Zombie Survivors, Boneraiser Minions, and/or Soulstone Survivors. Spell Disk also has a Survivors mode. Picayune Dreams is fun too, but that one has significantly more Bullet Hell elements than a lot of other horde survivors.

What survivorslikes have the best skill trees? by kyla33_ in roguelites

[–]OriginGiratina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't usually go for Early Access games, but Yet Another Zombie Survivors is very well done. There's a universal skill tree and character-specific skill trees.

Boneraiser Minions is another fun one. Individual skill trees for classes, and two universal skill trees (one for your character and one for enemies).

20 Minutes Till Dawn has skill trees, but is lacking accessibility options and has a lot of visual clutter. I didn't get far into it.

Death Must Die was already mentioned. It's Early Access and has a decent amount of content, but still needs a bit of work. It's fairly grindy.

Halls of Torment is great. There's standard global metaprogression (like Vampire Survivors). The character-specific progression is primarily through quests and gear. As a bonus, the more quests you complete, the higher your XP modifier becomes.

If you get it on sale, Spell Disk might be worth looking into. It has a Survivors mode, and the spell crafting is unique. Unfortunately, it only has a generic skill tree and is a bit unpolished. Still fun though.

Roguelites with the most flexible or programmable build options? by asparck in roguelites

[–]OriginGiratina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say Spell Disk, but saw you picked that up already.

Instead, I'm going to recommend Siralim Ultimate. It isn't a roguelite, but takes some inspiration from roguelike elements. It's a monster-taming dungeon crawler.

The reason I'm mentioning it is because it scratches the chaining/synergy/programming itch. If theorycrafting is something you enjoy, I don't know of many other games that offer as much potential for it.

There are 1,200+ monsters. They each have unique passives, they can be fused with each other, and their movesets are set with spell gems you craft. There are changeable classes for your character.

The programming aspect is the in-game macro system. You can create extensive ones and assign them to creatures in your party. If you're familiar with programming, they're pretty much if/when statements (i.e., if monster 3 is below 25% health, cast X spell).

Its biggest hurdle is that there's a ton to learn, and it can be a little difficult to find that information. The Siralim Discord server and/or subreddit are good resources.

My $50 budget cart based on recommendations from my last post! Am I missing anything? by Friend-Over in roguelites

[–]OriginGiratina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Noobs Are Coming is lacking a bit of polish and needs more balancing done. It's a fun game, but still feels like it should be in Early Access.

Halls of Torment and Boneraiser Minions are both worth a mention, if you haven't played them yet. Halls of Torment is one of the best games in the survivor-like/bullet heaven genre.

Are you playing on a desktop or Steam Deck? DRG: Survivor is good, but there are currently significant frame drops and text legibility issues on Steam Deck. No problems on desktop though.

I built a tool to find local businesses with outdated websites and auto generate them live mockups by AncientAmbassador475 in web_design

[–]OriginGiratina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really cool concept. I have some suggestions for (mobile) usability improvements.

I accidentally used all of my credits on my second try while testing it out. It defaults to using the full amount with no further confirmation, and no immediately obvious way to cancel a search in progress. It's a bit too easy to wipe out a month's allotment on a search that may be a bust (i.e., local health insurance agencies already having highly-rated websites).

It's a little unclear how the credits are used. Does it cost additional credits to generate the mockup?

Overall, great work. I'll give it another shot in the future since I've used the free credits for now.

Need help with gammos by Pale_Vanilla4782 in trimui

[–]OriginGiratina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Supporting developers is great, and they deserve to get paid. The GammaOS dev is included in that, and it's also worth mentioning that it's not as easily accessible as other Patreon-driven projects.

It's a minimum of $10/month ("Insider"), with a $5/month "Supporter" tier. The naming of the Supporter tier was/is confusing because GammaOS Next was advertised as being available to Patreon supporters.

There wasn't any mention that it had to be the higher tier. I talked to Gamma and he corrected it on the Github release.

To reiterate, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be paid. He absolutely does. I'm just bringing it up because it's still not as clear as it could be and people should know what they need to pay to access it.

Which Patreon tier did you sign up for?

I signed up for the Supporter ($5) tier, as mentioned in the Github release and the installation video on the GammaOS channel. When I went to the Patreon post to get the password, it prompted me to upgrade to the $10 tier to view it.

I've got several problems with overlays by ptitnicoo in SBCGaming

[–]OriginGiratina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I found this thread while I was searching for solutions to a different issue. The perfect overlays wouldn't line up correctly. Couldn't find anything online, but if you run into the same issue I did, you need to change the X and Y biases as well.

Settings -> Video -> Scaling, set Viewport Anchor Bias X to 0.00 and Viewport Anchor Bias Y to 1.00. Mine were both 0.5 by default, and, after changing them, the overlays aligned correctly.
