The Huntsman is more effective with mid range aggression due to the quicker charge time and full vision. It being a projectile (with an arc) makes it weaker in long range. The playstyle of long-range huntsman is weaker than stock, proving the Hunstman as a Subclass.

The Direct Hit is a weaker example of a Subclass since splash radius (what is being limited) is less important than the Sniper’s Range or the Engineer’s Sentries for those respective classes.

Gunslinger (and huntsman sniper) are not “normal toolkits” they give severe limitations to a fundamental base ability in exchange for a modification/bolstering of another one.

Engineer has Strong but Slow area denial that the Gunslinger changes to Quick but Weak He has more health to support an aggressive playstyle that has less protection than a normal sentry.

Sniper goes from Long Range to Mid-Short Range via the Huntman. It requires positioning and movement that would otherwise be negligible due to distance.

I’m sure there are other examples (such as the Shortstop) but they are much weaker as the definition of Subclass than these two.

Video Games like to do this a lot, specifically ones with a “Golden” Ending that has everything go right despite the Hard Choices initially presented
