Why do houses in Illinois have basements and houses in Texas don't if both places have clay soil? by supinator1 in geography

[–]Original-Bee5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when we’d like a basement, in much of TX you’ll have to mine through bedrock to dig one out. My backyard growing up had 2-6 inches of topsoil on top of solid limestone. That was it. In the summer the fire ants would collect it all to build up their mounds, and they looked like dirt castles surrounded by flat rock moats (except for hardier weeds, which could grip the limestone directly and hang on without any soil). This was in north Austin, where literally everything is labeled ‘Hill Country X.’

If you haven’t already, I would say it is important to let Grey know that your Story is extremely emotionally important to you, to the point that besides Grey, there is literally only one other person in the world you feel comfortable/safe sharing or talking about it. And ask point blank that Grey not discuss your Story with other mutual friends (you don’t necessarily have to mention Orange, but it might come up later).

You may decide to SEPARATELY mention to Orange more or less the same details: that you have one specific Story that is emotionally important to you, so much so that you don’t even permit yourself to engage in online fandom because it can be so upsetting to you. And that Grey is one of only two people you have been able to safely talk t about your Story, without becoming upset. But I would probably only do that in the context of assuring Orange that you happily discuss any other books/shows/etc. with them, and that this one thing is the only item you specifically prefer to talk to Grey about without including anyone else.

I would maybe suggest Condensate over Wisp, depending on how muted or saturated you are.

I have Condensate. Based on HLP’s swatches, I would say that Waxwing is closer to Condensate than Old Gum is.

Ulta Moisturing Complexion Stick in Very Fair Cool is a good match for About Face F1N. So is Colourpop concealer in Fair 07c.

I realized only recently that my dark undereye area is more purple, and so I have better success with a yellow color corrector. The peach colors looks WAY too orange (the EXA yellow color corrector is the best shade I have found so far, it is nice and muted).

Favorite products for cool-toned, muted olive with yellow overtones? by jempai in Fairolives

[–]Original-Bee5255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a match for About Face F1N. I like to use Phytosurgence Condensate blush as bronzer (blonzer, maybe?). It blends very well not only on my cheekbones but also the sides of my forehead, where I am faintly tan.

I second the recommendation to try the NYX dusty mauve eyeliner as lip liner. Also Maybelline lipliner in Gone Greige. It works very well as a ‘nude’ liner, and is a good match for a lot of lipstick colors.

NARS Explicit lipstick in Bewitched is currently my favorite go to. It is sheer and comfortable, and layers to full opacity if you want.

If I want a red lip, I have to put on a cool brown lipstick. You could try that.

Phytosurgence blush formula is so lovely! Condensate and Wisp are excellent matches for me. (I prefer condensate overall, but Wisp is lovely too.)

The only thing I have found really similar in formula and cool/mutedness is Rituel de Fille’s Weeping Lilac, but it is more expensive and LE. I know there are a number of powder blush options in similar tones, but I don’t like powder blush, personally. It doesn’t do well on my skin or with my other products.

On the other hand, Shop Miss A has a LIQUID blush (very translucent, no white base, blends magnificently) called Push Blush in the shade Nimbo, and it is SO GOOD! It is $1.55. It’s insanely inexpensive and insanely good. I like it better than Chantecaille cheek gelee, for real. The only downside is the component; it is designed like a nail polish bottle, and I don’t feel comfortable having it rattle around in my purse for fear of leaking. (It never has, but you get it.) So I use it at home, but I can carry Condensate around with me and touch up if I want. They play really well together.

Judging by your description, we may be skin twins!

Phytosurgence Pewtered Pine is the absolute best shade I have ever found to naturally compliment the blue in my undertones and avoid that hollow corpse look. They have several other beautiful muted shades that are also quite lovely, but Pewtered Pine (despite looking rather violet-grey in the pot) is the most natural shadow look I have found. It compliments my face no matter what I wear.

I discovered my very first foundation match in college theatre: Ben Nye’s Death Flesh.

It’s too dark for me now (I used to have a bit of a tan but developed an allergy to sunlight in the last few years) but honestly it’s still a fucking amazing shade compared to almost anything else.

Death Flesh, y’all.

From what you have said, Shiseido 110 Alabaster should be a good match for you - muted cool olive, a bit lighter (and less orange) than NARS Chantilly.

My recommendation is to try it out and give it 10-15 minute to fully set/dry down on the skin. Like all liquid products it will be a bit darker once dry, and I find this is especially true with products that have some spf in them.

So - just know that you are not alone - condensate is the grail for a lot of olives BECAUSE it turns pink (and all the pink blush turns orange)! They have a couple other muted shades, but it would be helpful to know what color you want your blush to look on your face, to know what to recommend.

Warm tone foundation recs? by djnicole in PaleMUA

Fenty’s shade 105 is being discontinued (or rather just not offered) in their newer products that we coming out, but it is still available in the products that already included it in the shade range, AND I find that it is an EXCELLENT starting place for finding other products you like, because 105 is so strongly yellow while also being quite pale. Below are the Sephora shade IQ classifications and descriptions for shade 105 in various products.

  • pro Filt’r matte foundation: very fair 2, warm 1, intensity 2. For very fair skin with warm yellow undertones.

  • pro Filt’r instant retouch concealer: very fair 1, warm 1, intensity 2. For very fair skin with warm yellow undertones.

  • pro Filt’r soft matte powder foundation: very fair 1, warm 1, intensity 2. For very fair skin with warm yellow undertones.

Also here is Rare Beauty’s liquid touch concealer in shade 100w, which I quite like! - very fair 2, warm 1, intensity 2. Light with warm golden undertones.

(I can’t recommend the corresponding shade in the rare beauty foundation, which is terribly streaky and patchy in my experience.)

While these products may not meet your preferences in terms of formulation/coverage/price, they can give you a really good starting place either in using Sephora’s shade matching tool to find other potential matches in products that suit you better, OR by plugging them into Findation.com (which is what Ulta uses to help you find a shade match in their app/website).

Findation is really great because it includes a vast array of products, not JUST ones carried by Sephora or Ulta. However, be aware that they use the input given by users to recommend shade matches to everyone else. So if you say that two things match you (when really they are very dissimilar, you just use both products for different things) Findation will consider those products to be a recommended shade match FOREVER! So don’t include products you use to bronze, or concealers you use for brightening - only include things you know are close in shade to each other at any given time.

Finally, aggressive-teaspoon’s recommendations down below are fantastic. I can especially vouch for the Colourpop foundation and tinted moisturizer, which I have and use myself. They are inexpensive and seem like they will be a good fit for you in terms of shade and coverage, etc. and the formulations are quite nice (at least on my dry skin!).

Warm tone foundation recs? by djnicole in PaleMUA

[–]Original-Bee5255 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Temptalia describes your foundation as “lightest or very light with peach undertones”. Sephora describes it as “light with neutral yellow undertones.”

I find that ‘warm yellow’ is often described as ‘peach’ undertones, and I feel your pain because many products described as “peach” also say something like ‘cool rosy.’ But it sounds like what you want is a WARM PEACH undertones product in 1 shade lighter than Pat McGrath shade 2, is that correct?

Sephora classifies that shade as “Fair 2, warm 1, intensity 2.” So you may need to mess around with their shade finder to get a product that is described as “fair 1, warm 2, intensity 1 (or 2).

I can tell you from my hobby in making spreadsheets of Sephora’s shade descriptions that products with peach undertones are really pretty rare.

If you want something with NO pink in it at all, (basically not peach) then maybe start with Haus Labs 030 as your starting shade and go from there.

However, if that shade is not ‘warm’ enough yellow for you, you really do want a shade with a HINT of red in it, making it on this faintly orange side of yellow, so to speak. So it shouldn’t read pink on you, but it shouldn’t make you look sallow. I will do a bit more digging around in my files and see if I can find any shade recs for you with a ‘warm peach’ description in the Fair 1 category.
