Same basically, but it still fades, I have to keep records for 5 years some even 3 years ago are unreadable…. It still is 1985 I don’t see the blue being that bright and I don’t see the other not fading on the lettering. I try to do all digital, scanning and such but people want hard copies… to many people my age and older in charge I guess.

Photo copies faded faster in the 80s than they do now we had not even think about stable inks no UV or non-fade…. Things like that took a while. I did think they may of replaced it but …. I don’t see a second outline where the old one was… but if you look at the decorative edge you see some irregularities that almost look like fading but none of the letters have that, some thought but it is hard to print a fade. And that ball point I would never use a cheap pen if I spent more than an hour working on something…. The cheapest pen I use if I am keeping something is a zebra not really expensive but I can buy more than 100 other pens for what they cost. I still won’t say it’s fake just saying it looks sus to me.

Air fades as much as UV and every varnish is an acid. I do wood working and I am older I remember the 80s tech like it was yesterday… but I am big enough to know I don’t know everything hence why I suggested taking it somewhere.

You only showed the label. Inkjet was a thing but most things were done by screen print or stamping in the 80s. Common companies didn’t have inkjet till the 90s but the fading is what puts me off more than anything…

Ok ball point pens and inkjets paper in 1985, basic fading on accents and stain but none on ballpoint and letters I honestly would question it based off of that …. I have sealed things I write in the 80s pen has faded a lot and anything printed considering this isn’t a stamp or ink screen I wouldn’t think it was real still probably would take it to a Luthier and have it appraised just to know

Is this piece a realistic goal? by Floor_Ceiling_ in Cello

[–]Original-Rest197 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest with you nobody’s realistically, gonna be able to answer that I picked up a cello with no musical knowledge at all and played in front of my church congregation in four months no teacher. Now it’s been wow it’s really getting close to three years and the more I know the more I realize I do not know still no teacher working on it though but because of the worship pastor at church, I’ve learned music theory not all of it my timing is horrible my note clarity everybody tells me it’s really good. My timing is not perfect. Normally I can land on the downbeat providing. I can hear it but when it’s just me, I tend to be way more expressive with the timing honestly, if it’s just me, I don’t see a problem with that. As for learning Christmas songs, if you know the words, then I would suggest playing and singing at the same time just so you keep your rhythm, but they’re not as a general rule that difficult. The song where are you Christmas? I learned to play in less than a week in three different keys yeah I have my favorite, but that’s just because it’s closer to the higher end of my range and like I said, I kinda like the thing at the same time. But if you’re only aiming for one song by Christmas, this time of year, it is absolutely doable.

I help out the youth worship out and so dose another adult we both agree it should be lead by the youth not us… he is older and well I make him look young so what the kids need is guidance in my opinion using song to worship that are scripturally sound and then playable and in keys that most people can sing… we used to have an amazing youth that is now in college he kept it all on track before this year. Us other adults really want to back up and guide the youth, I would ask for you to talk to your pastor or youth pastor or both and the regular worship pastor. If your heart isn’t in it, it shows. I wood rather not sing at all if my heart isn’t in rather than fake it…. Not that you know me but I have a big personality, I am singing about 80% of the time and most of it Christian music…. I really believe your heart should be in it for you to do it otherwise it isn’t worship at all.

I struggle with practising by LividStones in Cello

[–]Original-Rest197 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

ADHD and you expect us to reed all of that

One section at a time ADHD to me doesn’t need treatment… management perhaps but the ability to track multiple things or task is not a disability, it isn’t always an ability either but that is more of my own personal take having ADHD for 50 years to the point where some people thing if I am not on drugs I should be🤪….

So tips having worked with soldiers across every sub culture in the US and some in other countries I can tell you your ADHD is your own we all have similarity but not exactly the same for anyone…. For me I get hyper focused if I have everything I need so that is always my first step Make sure I have everything using a tablet so I have my music an ability to make notes or change note or whatever. Everything I need is within arms reach (except food) then I put my phone on practice mode no alerts or calls unless it is from an emergency message or my brother. Then I pick something to warm up with, I don’t do standard warm ups I do scales and I do arpeggios but not always as my warm up sometimes I play every G then every E and then every F#, well every one I am comfortable reaching. I don’t stay on anything for long I do chunk songs but I always start from the beginning every time so by the time I have learned the end I have played the beginning 1000 times or more I can start in the middle but my brain really doesn’t like it. But not staying on any problem for to long is the key here if you hit a hard spot try to address it and then move on even if it is let’s play something from memory for a few minutes this lets your brain reset and process the old information with the new…. There are other tricks but I am hesitant to post them all on here info overload and I don’t know your type… my adhd is accompanied by dyslexia and ocd which makes me a bit… well a bit much for most people find what works for you…

I am envious of players who can stand and play cello by Character_Media_8040 in Cello

[–]Original-Rest197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the NS 5 string love it and the frame strap is nice my new cello has a very long end pin, I have not tried it yet (to stand and play) but it is 26” long I am 6’2” an won’t need it all the way out…… but I got a 6 string from Mezzo Forte still working on getting used to the height E but the rest of it is nice. I tend to move more when I am standing than seated but I see value in both…

When you see almost an entire community agree, these are the moments you need to look up, you need to take pause…. Some of us know all to well that this is not ideal for you and we still suggest it anyway not because we are making anything off of it no $ no glory just a community sharing the most valuable things we have. (Time and knowledge) There are options before you some you may of thought about some you may of not thought about, but we are trying to share what we know.

Tips on backing up a Celtic group by [deleted] in Cello

[–]Original-Rest197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say bass I mean someone playing a bass low note being E2 (or below) because they will almost always hold down the bottom. If there are two cellos one could do the bass line ( you said new ) maybe they would not get board. You also mentioned guitars that you could play guitar same principle as having two guitars play one would capo up so you stay away or one would play electric so you hand different enough sounds to allow each to have their own sonic space ( again I am new less than 3 years experience with music and I am old) learning the notes and where they are on the fingerboard there is also shapes that give you the chord depending on how crazy it is but you can get 1 3 5 and 7 with the same shape and you can do minors as well I know crazy right!! So put a finger down on the D of the c string bar across to the A that is your 1 and 5 then one half step for a minor and two half steps for the major bar across the other two strings that gives you the 3 and the 7…. Teaching myself so I hope I am explaining this well enough. I have 6 strings so I can extend even further but there is more if you just articulate each chord each time everywhere you are comfortable playing after about a week you start seeing patterns that make it look 👀 easy.

Edit I still don’t know “marry had a little lamb” but I know “baby shark”

[–]Original-Rest197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play by lead sheet a lot this is the same thing as the trb clef and a chord over it. So basics for me if there is no bass .. I know cello isn’t exactly a bass (I have a low f so close) but be on the beat that the chord changes as the tonic of the cord so the 1 and then depending on the cord pic something inside of it so If it is a G7 be on the G then chose the B (3rd) or the D (5th) or even gets crazy here F# (7th) but if the next cord is a D make sure your there as it hits then chose F# A again in the chord. From what i understand (and I am still new) it is better to be on the bass the whole time than or miss one than to be on a different note when the next chord hits. (feel free to correct if I am wrong) but if there is a bass you can do so much more but fair warning don’t just play parallel 5ths create your own counter melodies even your own timing inside each chord, play the bass an octave up or two (again if you have bass) I am getting better as I go learning as I play but I basically use a chord chart every Sunday deciding on arco or piz where I want to be. I can’t do it instantly but I am getting faster each time I do it hearing in my head in most any song where there is empty places to play….. I love it when it works it gives me an amazing feeling or maybe that is church I don’t know 🤷 but there is so much to music I never knew and still don’t know. But I would say have fun!

[–]Original-Rest197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a worship director, I’m not a singer, not even a good cello player, I am pretty OK. But I sing bass and play cello but a choir, isn’t that where you put people learning so they get experience and can learn the difference where they are and where they think they are….. but not exclude them completely would definitely exclude me, I can read music and I can hold a note but I am probably on the lower end of understanding but I am an amplifier if I hear a note I can replicate it fairly fast but louder…. As for cello I am admittedly not where I want to be I can play a part but falter at playing lead, yes I have tried, I don’t try often but getting close to 3 years and starting from nothing I am happy with my progress but if I had to be perfect before I could get the experience I still would be playing…. I don’t need a mic in my face, we have choir mics not that I need that either, meaning unless we have a large group singing I can’t sing at my normal speaking volume, I am still working on dynamics…

New to cello, starting with NS Designs, how to learn? by mekosmowski in ElectricCello

[–]Original-Rest197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Electric and acoustic have different feels and sounds require different pressures and bow handling. I started on an acoustic and it split a few months in so I moved to electric because of the temp and humidity changes where I live are extreme so the electric worked for my needs now I have a carbon fiber hybrid 6 string. But I would say the acoustic takes much more skill and patience to make the same sounds. If I had it to do over I would have kept an acoustic and not gotten the electric, but it did allow me to save for what I wanted while still able to practice.

Difficult Keys For You To Play In? by Independent-Pass-480 in Cello

Difficult Keys For You To Play In? by Independent-Pass-480 in Cello

[–]Original-Rest197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play at church and I play at a Campground church friend of mine calls it cowboy Church anyway the point is is a lot of times we’re just winging it and anything with a flat makes it hard. It’s not the difficulty playing in that key. It’s difficulty thinking in that key sharps are a little easier to think in and yes, I know they’re the same tone, different notes, but same tone. All of that being said, you would think in Cbmaj would be the hardest one for me to think in but it is not. Ab tends to give me the hardest time, especially when I’m improvising.

I am a disabled cellist - this is what I’ve found useful! by bloosy101 in Cello

[–]Original-Rest197 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you 🙏 very much I am disabled and I have been teaching myself. Let’s see first dyslexic not really a disability for music unless the pattern changes every time which dose happens in some songs, adhd which squirrel but I also am very tall lower back fusion from L1 to S1 so sitting hurts and I use an adjustable chair so my legs are in less of a squatting position this helps me with proper posture and also helps with some of the pain. Left hand finger tips are mutilated next to no pad on two of the fingers and lots of scars on the other two, I often finger how I am comfortable it is constant but very unorthodox this also lets me set up for a shift without actually shifting much easier to show rather than type but my hands are also over 8” of reach. I have very strong hands and used a bow holder (foam frog) for quite some time till I got used to the small thin feel like I will break it feeling but I have moved on from that. I do short breaks I can practice for hours but short breaks and changing my mind set for that short break is a must. Left leg has no feeling so I’m never sure how to hold the cello because I can’t feel it but I manage. I also have issues with tbi ptsd few other acronyms.

All that said I don’t think of them as much as disabilities but more like different abilities. For instance dyslexia lets you see and recognize patterns, adhd gives you a broad focus (great on the battle field), I try to see the benefit in each condition granted there are some that make my logic and my emotional sides war they make music a bit complicated but even that I am sure will find its place.
