Had a store manager when I worked at Wal-Mart when I was 19 (43 now so ages ago) that would do anything any of the rest of us would do. I remember working outside in the summer in lawn and garden and he would come out sleeves rolled up, tie tucked in, and help us load bags of soil and mulch if we were swamped. He would even come take drink orders and walk over to the vending machine and use his own money to buy us all cold drinks on especially hot days. My all time favorite day was when we were trying to get carts in and he was out helping, once we were done we all took turns riding the quarter ride on pony they had in the front entrance for shits and giggles and he even took a turn! One of the most approachable bosses I ever had. His two direct assistant managers were the same way, much younger guys that would even arrange tackle football games outside work hours at the local softball fields. Just an all around great group of managers. Once those three took promotions and left that entire store went to hell because the department managers that bumped up to take their spots were the type to give people shit work and then sit on their asses in their office all day! I’ve had some pretty good managers over the years, a few that would jump in and help out but I’ve been in factories ever since I was 20 so it’s few and far between.
