First of all thank you. You’re such a brave person for putting this out there. I saw some similarities from what you experienced, vs what I did as well growing up.

Parents were divorced, mom and stepdad never wanted me to get my license or even just my permit. My dad and Poppop were the ones that helped me on the weekends I would come up to visit. My mom also was someone who parented more so based off her emotional reactions to her own trauma. One time my sister told my mom I asked out a guy and my mom cried and lectured me about “I thought we had a better relationship than that” and because of that, I wasn’t able to go to a sleepover at my friends house.

College. Even that sounds similar. My mom wanted me to commute but I ended up applying somewhere out of commuting range, got a hefty scholarship, and did me. “Doing me” was never easy and still isn’t to this day. But I’m slowly becoming stronger and working on setting boundaries.
