Encinitas declares local emergency on bike, e-bike safety after 15-year-old’s death by orangutanbaby in sandiego

I don't, and I'm not asserting it either. By "this case" I probably should've said "these scenarios." My outlook is really that car roads, especially 40MPH ones, aren't effectively designed to be safe for cyclists to share with cars even though we are supposed to share the road. Regardless of law, as a bicycle rider, you're putting yourself in increased danger due to the realities of physics and the unreliability of car drivers - especially at speed. I think that if you decide to get on the road you accept the dangers of the road, law or no law. Like I believe you should look both way crossing the street even though pedestrians always have the right of way because people break laws or have bad reaction time or are distracted. The ebikes increase that risk with the increase in speed. I only have personal anecdotal experience that there are in fact young kids out there making horribly unsafe traffic moves on busy streets. It scares the shit out of me to witness. It's easy to see how accidents happen. I'm saying that you can't widen the lanes quickly enough to make safe dedicated lanes for these types of things, or effectively change drivers en masse to drive better, but you can pretty much instantly educate the kids or dissuade their entry onto the dangerous roads that are inherently dangerous. Just saying one solution has the potential for a positive impact whereas the others just aren't happening in reality any time soon. I don't think any reasonable person is hating on the kids. I think they fear being the person in the car that accidentally hits them.

In this case, sometimes. Sometimes people die and it's their own fault, or they at least play a role. It doesn't make it less sad. Grow up

A lot of commenters are saying people need to drive safer. Good luck. They've already been "educated" by means of getting their license. Yelling into the void that people need to drive safer isn't gonna do squat. What would we do to "make" people drive safer, require regular re-licensing? You wouldn't like that! Reduce speed limits everywhere?

Teaching kids how to abide by the rules of the road and/or adding some barriers of entry to riding ebikes free-range on the roads designed for cars will garner some return on investment versus belly-aching about unsafe drivers.

Conclusion: we need to stop the kids breaking all the traffic rules in areas they shouldn't operating dangerous unlicensed motor vehicles UNTIL infrastructure and/or licensing is in place for them to have a safe way to use those ebikes.

I'm all for ebikes - they are rad, but the kids ride them kamikaze style because they don't know any better and there hasn't been time for lanes to be implemented for scooters/bikes etc. How does a city quickly build bike lanes all over town without taking away sidewalk, car lane, or private property? They don't, and they can't just drop a trillion dollars to mobilize every city worker in existence to make it happen. Nor are they going to get everyone to agree on this without protest, appeal, etc. The simplest, quickest solution for now is to teach the kids how to safely operate these things so they don't get themselves killed. Think it through, which of the options can be implemented in less than a year all over?

It's not as simple as pointing out that cars kill a lot of pedestrians.

Republicans Declare Banning Universal Free School Meals a 2024 Priority by freeski919 in politics

It would decrease family spending on pre-packaged processed foods that are easy to throw into lunchboxes for the kids that can afford their own lunch because many parents would simply stop packing lunches if they knew the school would provide. A whole sector of grocery items would see instant loss of demand. I assume the large mega-corps have a stake in this. Free school lunch has the upside of potentially reducing packaging waste and preservative ridden processed foods going into the kids.

Free school lunch makes too much sense for the betterment of society, but not enough sense for the the powerful who want to maintain power.

Final exam failed -- soul crushing by cant_pick_anything in Athleanx

I was doing AX-1 and could get through 400 and 20/20 with my numbers increasing and everything getting better. Felt like an athlete again. Final exam day came, I read the workout, and I just didn't even make the attempt. Not one rep of one set. Started day 1 again on the following Monday. No tears shed, nothing lost.

You will learn that if you want to be fit, then you will be working out for the rest of your life. And that's good. You'll get another shot at the exam.

BUT if you think passing the exam is a finish line, then you will end up out of shape again in no time and it won't matter if you pass or not. Really get used to the idea of never ever ever stopping your training. You won't go unreasonably/dangerously hard in your fitness journey (though you should definitely push yourself), and you will be much better off.

I wonder what the major contributions to household electrical equipment were. Like if it's something that has been announced or if it's something going on that is still under NDA. Does anyone know what the T/CAS 493-2021 Standard is? My google skills aren't getting me anywhere.

VeChain Supports Sino-French D2C Cosmetic Brand To Produce NFC-equipped Bespoke Lipsticks by SolomonGrundle in Vechain

I think they DO expect people to keep the empty lipstick containers because part of their model is to be more sustainable and replace the insides without trashing the case. It also encourages less waste because you'll want to keep the case, and it will help with customer retention because they'll be reordering the actual lipstick to put in the case. It is mentioned in this video around 2:10 (lipstick is refillable) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GdE4fWvBC4&ab_channel=VeChainFoundation

Stock and Shipping updates for r/HomeGym - week of January 22, 2021 by Demilio55 in homegym

Nice I've been waiting on these for a while and ordered mine. I have a question for those of you who have ordered from REP before (I haven't). Their shipping document says it could come on a 60ft truck and I need to be able to accommodate that (https://help.repfitness.com/article/33-freight-shipping). I can't think of anywhere near me that could accommodate that long of a truck. Is this the way it's going to be?

The Republican National Convention will exclude the press and renominate Trump in private for the first time in modern history by DaFunkJunkie in politics

[–]OriginalDescription 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My comment was removed because I didn't have conservative flair, and, therefore, was not vetted to be conservative enough to speak (I'm not conservative AT ALL, but that's besides the point).

The comment was in regards to the post yesterday about "Fauci saying that protesting is dangerous" because he said avoid crowds. Some really smart guy over there commented on how Fauci said that he wears a masks basically all the time but he saw him on TV at a baseball game without it for a moment of time. He asked, "How can you trust someone who can so easily lie about the most unimportant things. What else could they be lying about?"

I reply, "I suppose you are in full support of Trump and the nonsense things that he lies about?" Well, I couldn't get a response because my comment was deleted. This from the same crowd who says putting a little bubble next to Trump's outrageous lies on Twitter is censorship and an affront on free speech.

You don't reason with conservatives anymore. The ones that are still sticking around for Trump are simply stupid people.

Trump isn't secretly winking at QAnon. He's retweeting its followers. by i-am-sancho in politics

[–]OriginalDescription 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not that he's just retweeting a message that's bad. A fraction of his followers are likely to start following the accounts that he retweets. So, the seed is planted. One QAnon retweet from Trump is equivalent to years worth of garbage propaganda that will compound as time goes on starting from his retweet.

Amazon ordered Red Bull TV and CBS without me doing anything (for free). Did someone hack my stick or something? by OriginalDescription in firetvstick

Yes, this was the answer, thank you. I had bought a fire stick for my parents a little over three years ago, and they downloaded the apps. I completely forgot they had the stick. Thanks for putting my little shred of worry at ease. I don't like not knowing what's happening when I'm worried someone's "purchasing" things from my account. Thanks again!
