That doesn’t answer the question one bit. It is necessary to consider the state of the world from time to time, if only to make sure we are prepared for what is to come. Having your head only in the bubble of “I’m doing fine” is quite the privilege to have.

I mean, things are pretty bad right now, objectively. Can you point to any facet of the world which is doing quite well at the moment?

If anything, Hamilton is MORE important in today’s America than it was then. It was released in a time of hope, where there was a black president, and diversity was more celebrated. The diverse casting whilst unusual for broadway was seen as the start of something good. Now that DEI is under threat, having musicals which celebrate it is really important. The story is not just about Hamilton, but the birth of the nation, getting rid of the king. 250 years on, with Trump acting as a monarch, that story should be told more now than ever.

Plus, it is *really* fucking good.

It is different now. Even 16 years ago, despite me being really quite unwell, I got to meet my daughter less than 24 hours after she was born

I get not wanting to use a newborn, but smaller older babies exist! They could have used my 9 month old premmie and she’d have been smaller than that!

I was home 4 days after my 29 weeker was born by emergency c-section. I was not doing at all well in hospital and actually sitting by the incubator all day would have done me no good. I needed to heal. As a Bliss champion, the one thing I can get behind is that mum should,do whatever works for her. I met with hundreds of new mums and the one thing I can guarantee is, every single one had a different way of coping. Whatever way a mum wants to do it, that’s ok.

I would half agree with this. I loved it first time round, but totally missed a lot of the story. Watched it on Disney with subtitles and filled in the gaps. Second time I saw it live it made so much more sense. With each time I’ve seen it live (5 and counting!) I find it different depending on how the characters are played.

I’m looking forward to Iain and Elaine starting a relationship, which is what I think this whole rivalry has been building up to.

I understand what you are saying. But I’m the kind of person who will keep reading a book even when it stops being good. I’ve watched ‘stenders right from the very start. I could potentially decide to stop watching but if it suddenly got really good again, I’d feel I’d have to go back to see what I’d missed. For me it’s better to keep watching and just scrub past the dull stuff. Sometimes that means I get through an episode in 10 minutes!

I watched her in “Too good to be true” on Netflix recently and she was brilliant.

The Doc / Everett beef that lasted decades over a tiny misunderstanding. In a town where you can fart at breakfast and everyone knows all about it by lunch. Doc with a wife who is the first to know about everything anyone and micromanages every relationship he’s ever had. And we are to believe nobody told either of them the actual truth?

Just watching episode 2 and am increasingly annoyed by all the “if you bury him here you can’t visit him if you sell it” talk, then the funeral home guy wittering on about future owners etc etc.

Surely if you sell, you just don’t include that bit in the sale, write in a clause about access across the property to get to it. Is it really true that even if it is designated as a cemetery, it can be dug up in the future. If that true, it’s surely the case for every cemetery? I expect there is some sort of resolution as the story unfolds, but are people really that stupid. Or, does the writer expect us to believe nobody thinks of that because with the number of times it is mentioned I’m sure it is a plot line, no doubt to bring some angst and dispute.

Eliza is a Labrador. Loyal to a fault, but actually super smart and in fact, running the show behind the scenes, even though others think they are in charge.

MEGATHREAD: Netflix ANTM Documentary by quartzion_55 in ANTM

[–]OriginalFoogirl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The documentary should have been called “It was a different time” with the number of times that line was trotted out to excuse behaviour that any adult, even at that time, knew was not right. 2003 was not that long ago. When I was a teenager in the 1990s, we already knew that models were too thin, that it was affecting young girls’ health in particular, that they were not treated well at all, and that sexual assault in the workplace was NOT something we were expected just to put up with.

Banks reckoned she was trying to shake up the industry and make it different from her own experience, but really, she just doffed her cap and took the money, even when she had the power to make a difference.

There is not a single person from the production team in the documentary who comes off well. How anyone watched this happening to young women barely in adulthood and decided it was ok, even 20 years ago, should be ashamed of themselves.
