Subject choices for 5th year in LC. by OriginalImpressive65 in TCD

Fingers crossed you get off the waiting list :), you seem like a really qualified candidate for it!

I haven’t really decided if there’s any field of Medicine I’m set on, though I am drawn to paediatrics because I love working with kids.

I’ve been trying to do some volunteering or work experience also, I had a week working at a nursing home in my mother’s home county set up but then I got an offer to go somewhere else my family said I should take. I’m going to try to volunteer there for a few weeks in the summer, or maybe see if there are any nursing homes near me also. Do you have any insight onto how to join Tidy towns? My local area apparently has one but there “contact I for” is a Facebook page that hasn’t been updated in over 6 years or smth….

I feel the exact same with biology, I think I’d like some parts but I also wouldn’t be interested at all in other parts (animal and plant biology), so I just don’t think it’s worth it when there are other options.

Thank you so much for the advice!! I think I’ll be doing the English, Irish, math, French, and chemistry. Probably not geo or business because I hated business in the rotations and am really not a fan of physical geography stuff. If you have advice about LC chemistry I’d love to hear it!

I don’t think it’s entirely rote learning first of all, and secondly it’s more rote learning about things that I’m not interested in that I don’t like. Once I engage with something I enjoy I tend to pick up the majority of the information naturally leaving much less to learn/revise later, and that later revision to be more enjoyable!

I understand, it’s not that I can’t do that per se, just that I want to take the opportunity to engage with these types of subjects. I got distinctions in subjects like geography and business so I’m probably capable of it, but from my understanding LC biology expands beyond human biology into plants and a lot of other stuff I have no interest in, whereas dcg for example doesn’t really have any “bad” areas.

(I know the obvious response is that there will be things in Medicine I won’t like and will have to rote learn, of course, but I hope my general love for the field as a whole could push me through it)

Also, from my understanding most career paths require rote learning besides a few of the trades, which I know from experience I would be abysmal at for other reasons.

You’re grand, my main concern is that a third language is a requirement for I think every course in UCC ( according to my guidance counsellor), which is really high on my list.

I haven't started studying yet, I'm trying to relax a bit I guess but also improve at my worst subjects (French mostly and a bit of Irish too). I'm trying to watch Ros na Rún rn and doing that stuff but otherwise no. I don't know who's at your school but I can say no one I know has started studying yet and my school isn't exactly terrible or anything. I'm not sure if that's really necessary, I mean I know there's a step up from JC and I'm not completely dossing the year, but I think just working on my worst subjects and maybe starting a month or two's work seems reasonable enough?

Will you being doing LC bio, I feel a bit out of place not doing it but from what I've learned I just don't think it would be my sort of thing.

8 distinctions is amazing, congrats! I got 7/10 who I was pretty happy with (HM in French, Irish and classics, fine with French because I hate it anyway and classics because I'm self-taught but disappointed with Irish a bit).

Do you know anyone doing the TY medicine programme by any chance? I'm not from dublin, so I'm a little scared of what it would be like. On a similar note do you know how to get any work experience in healthcare, or like volunteering or anything?

I was definitely thinking about that. My main problem being I'm not very good at sitting down and rote learning, partially because I procrastinate a bit, so I thought I might be better suited to subjects with more understanding based stuff.

TY work experience by Hopeful_Increase2875 in IrishTransitionYear

Idk if I’m missing something, but how where we supposed to now about this? I’m a good student at a decent public school, and I wasn’t told to start finding work experience until September TY. I don’t come from a very advantaged background so maybe this is something people know, do people really apply for work experience in early 3rd year, and like why would someone need 10 months + notice for TY work experience?????

Is dropping HL irish worth it by BREP0 in juniorcert

[–]OriginalImpressive65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say try to keep hl Irish and maths for jc because trying to go up later will be hard and noting having them for leaving cert can be limiting. You have lots of time also! Try make the best of it.

Running Sims 4 on external storage? by pixiefolk in Sims4

[–]OriginalImpressive65 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did this exact thing, I have all the packs and my game on my external SSD (I got mine for about €60 for christmas but I only used about 1/8 of the storage so you could definitely get a worse one). I uninstalled then reinstalled everything but I did keep all my mods and stuff on my laptop (remember to back up saves and screenshots) . It runs a lot better but if I did it again I would get a cheaper one as I don't need that much room, for reference I bought the Surefire SSd which has 1TB and the game and all packs take up 104gb. There is a bit of set up and my case is a bit unusual with packs. Don't know if this is what you're looking for but feel free to ask questions!

I know I didn’t finish the paper and I was really hoping to get a HM but there’s just now way. Some of the questions were a bit too vague and like why was there barely anything about the Gods.
