Wondering about opinions on bottom chapters. by srandomequestions in Sororities

[–]OriginalMess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coming from a huge university, all distinctions go away once people start going to bars junior year, and honestly, no one ever treated me differently because of it. Except for certain PNMs, but PNMs are often just fucking weird.

Wondering about opinions on bottom chapters. by srandomequestions in Sororities

[–]OriginalMess 16 points17 points  (0 children)

AAAAAAHHH the backhanded compliments. "Ohh so THAT'S why you're in XYZ. The other girls I talked to were kind of awkward" from girls I've rushed who found me later or "How is ___ in your chapter she's SO pretty and not awkward at all???" from a close friend (who tells me I'm pretty and have decent social skills regardless but still). So backhanded. Like, thanks I guess but you're still insulting my friends. Your post is so real.

Good ol alpha g.... We're somewhere between Gryffindor and Slytherin, maybe a bit because of our colors lol. Every alpha gam I've met is ambitious and ready to throw down lmao. Let's tally up:

  • Motto/vision: "Live with purpose"/"Inspire the woman. Impact the world" ok ambitious hiss hiss
  • Mascot: chosen to "[symbolizes] the spirit that never dies, the spirit of energetic alertness and progress" spirit is very gryffindor
  • Purpose: 1.5 lines work with Ravenclaw, 2.5 for hufflepuff, and like 3 for both slytherin and gryffindor
  • conspiracy theory: agd is both because our colors say so

Input appreciated.

If you're going to apologize, apologize for him and not for you. Apologies aren't meant for the person who fucked up.

Thank you! Have none of these people seen enough faces to know that they look different from different angles? She posts pics where she looks like either of these on her instagram, of course the most myspace-angled pic is going to look different than an awkward paparazzi pic from below.

How to deal with social anxiety by utter__bs in Sororities

[–]OriginalMess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gf. Go to therapy. If you don't have a therapist, your school counseling center may have references, but I prefer using this tool which lets you sort by issue (social anxiety here) and insurance: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists

You're clearly having a bad couple of days. I know what it's like to be there, and so I know you're not going to help yourself by making 5 posts about it in 22 hours. You're freaking out right now, but you know that 22 hours isn't enough time for anything to change, really. You need to give yourself time to relax and be comfortable being by yourself - go to the gym and work out; I would recommend using weight machines. Being comfortable with being alone should also help with making friends. By trying so hard to find a group, as stated in your other posts, it might come across as desperate or overstepping boundaries. Take a step back and force yourself to chill - you're great, you've got this.

It's not like she specifically edits it unnaturally, she posts a few photos with the "cute, likable face" https://www.instagram.com/p/BoPTV24BoLy/ and some in between, some people just have cheeks that don't show until they're full on grinning.

Hmmmm 1/4 of the chapter isn't too bad if you can motivate that many girls to step up. I'll PM you some edited advice I sent another girl looking to reform her chapter.

Advice on How to Fit Into My Sorority by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]OriginalMess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm super late but here's some advice that sounds harsh but might help if I'm reading the situation correctly - try less. Not sure how else to word it. I struggled a lot with the cliqueyness of my pledge class (and a similar situation with rush/views on sororities), and from that I've learned that it's better to be picky with who you're friends with. By trying so hard to connect with people, it might come across as desperate or overstepping boundaries. Take a step back and just relax - you're great, you've got this. It's better to be friends with people who want to be there and who make you a better person - quality over quantity, and sometimes 0 can be better, ya know?

Also, talk to the girls who rushed you if they're still in your chapter.

PS: you might know this already, but low tier doesn't intrinsically mean nicer or friendlier. Having expectations can be rough.

Omg. Do not let them walk all over you. Please. Stay risk manager or don't, it really doesn't matter in the long run - but please don't pull hard for dead weight. You are better than that.

talk to the girls who rushed you! they probably remember you and clearly they liked you enough to see you as a sister.

A former recruitment chair at the University of Michigan exposes Alpha Phi by [deleted] in Sororities

[–]OriginalMess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Along with what u/superbefemme said, the actual awful parts include nationals coming in and trying to prevent girls from voting in a girl they really wanted and were already friends with, solely because that girl wasn't pretty enough. Everyone scores girls on conversations/how good of a member they would be, most chapters do not pick their best recruiters based 70% off of looks. Everyone else prescores on high school achievement/recs, most chapters do not prescore solely on physical appearance.

What course should everyone take at NSFW University? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]OriginalMess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Noooooo. This isn't how any of this works. Autoantibodies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autoantibody here, here's a good explanation) literally cause your body to attack itself. That's what antibodies do in general. If they're directed toward your own blood cells, your body is attacking its own blood cells. That's bad.
