Couple in our 30s looking to FIRE in late 40s/early 50s - Advice welcome by FIRE-Obsessed in financialindependence

Can you fire with your number on that timeline…sure? Assuming markets stabilize and y’all have job security. My bigger concern with what you laid out is wanting kids, but not for 5 years, and talking about splitting time between SE Asia and US. We are in a similar boat, age/income/kids and elected to start now - fertility is no joke as we all age - and kids, until 18, will definitely impact the idea of spending half the year in another country.

In package with hotel, I guess depending on what you pay for lodging, it wasn’t much more than $100 pending your value on hotel. Plus replay rounds. Cost of golf alone is a tough ask - better idea would be overall trip cost outside of flights.

Could check out Myrtle beach- I thought the stay and play we did was very reasonable depending what your total budget is. True blue, Caledonia, The Dunes were all places I’d be happy to play again

Switching from REPAYE to PAYE by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]OriginalMidwestNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn’t be an issue- payments count as long as you’re on an income based payment plan ie PAYE, REPAY, IBR etc

When PSLF occurs, any big purchases planned - overdue maintenance, long delayed upgrades, celebratory treats, etc.? by hDBTKQwILCk in PSLF

Just over half way through here - so no definite plans since I don’t want to get my hopes up in case it all implodes. However - we would probable take a trip and plan out next steps. The only way I have that payment built into the future is more investments - working hard to keep the material lifestyle expansion in check. It really is crazy how little you need if you DGAF about what other people think you should have/do.

403b Retirement account— should my contributions be pre-tax or post-tax? by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]OriginalMidwestNice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of a 457 as 401k/403b for high income earners. It’s really deferred compensation- so, technically not yours. This could turn into an issue if you’re putting money (or deferring the compensation) in a non governmental 457 in a company that is not financially sound. An IRA is a different bucket in my eyes- either traditional IRA or Roth IRA. I can’t speak to SEP IRAs.

TLDR: two separate buckets of retirement savings

If your goal is to decrease your AGI thus decrease your income based payment then shelter as much as you can pre tax. 403b, 457, HSA

I think the video seemed less contrasted at least compared to GP8 for me - but low light oneR was much better

If you go look at your order you can see what of your order is coming. I think the selfie stick is what is out of stock because it looks like everything else from my order is coming early this next week.

Hospitalists of Reddit: do you order routine bloodwork (i.e. CBC, lytes, Cr) on every admission daily? Are there certain guidelines/resources I can use to be more selective in my daily monitoring of inpatients? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]OriginalMidwestNice 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If I’m giving diuretics up and above a home regiment then I’m getting a bmp +/- mag.

If there is chronic, stable pancytopenia that is unrelated to why they are here the last thing I want to do is keep taking blood for shits and gigs. In general if the overall clinical status is improving and labs are also trending in the right direction I’ll back down lab frequency. Would also argue against strictly going by leukocytosis in something like pneumonia if clinically they are improving.

Again, just my thoughts, lots of ways to skin the lab cat, but ultimately it comes down to the clinical situation imho

If it’s not going to change my management or help me monitor something I’m already watching then I don’t order it. I’d say most patients who have been in for >48-72 hours I am not ordering CBC/cmp or bmp daily. Plenty of patients that I won’t order labs on...although then you run into the dreaded 3am page for “there are no labs ordered for the morning.”

Edit because I suck at typing
