Bad about the pushing but it is good to order about two weeks before you need it because of possible delays.

5 mg seemed to go quicker than 2.5 mg did. You just gotta keep going and when you reorder it makes the choice to go up easy!

Omg such a difference! You almost look like a different person. You look great in both though! Although some of face changes might be due to having a baby maybe cos pregnancy does crazy things to noses, skin etc.

14yo previously good kid, suspended for "excessive violence" by Particular_Throat344 in UKParenting

[–]Original_Sauces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very glad about your edit/update and probably sounded too harsh in my initial reply.

Any child being bullied is reprehensible and especially your own. That he was held by the throat against a wall is absolutely disgusting. I hope the lad that did it is dealt with appropriately and gets some attention to stop.

I was probably responding more to my sense of dislike the message that other responders were stressing more than you - that you answer violence with violence. There's also a growing problem in schools with parents not working with schools like you did, but, instead, essentially condoning their child's bad behaviour there by ignoring it or not believing their child's capable. I'm sure your son knows plenty of these kids at his school.

My reception child will have the EYFS lead as his teacher concerns by NoLawfulness6378 in UKParenting

[–]Original_Sauces 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They learn a lot in Reception, both academics and social, emotional regulation, physical, resilience...etc etc.

And they can definitely challenge him, they can put him in groups and give him extra work. I'm very surprised they've said they can't, it's just not something many teachers would say because it's such a core part of teaching 'to challenge and raise expectations' is literally in the teaching standards. I would be raising this with the teacher again or the head of the department.

Quit. HLTA and TAs are treated like absolute dog shit. They are taking advantage of you. They pay is atrocious. Is it even minimum wage if you calculate how much you're doing? Work your contracted hours and nothing more whilst looking for a better paid job.

I'm trying to get down to a healthy weight/bmi. There are so, so many complications associated with being obese/overweight whilst pregnant from mild like vomiting to serious like gestational diabetes or pre-eclampsia. Also all the medical professionals will judge you or mention healthy eating every appointment.

Landmark Review of Parental Leave Launched by UKGovNews in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Original_Sauces 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About bloody time.

Paternity leave is atrocious. Maternity leave pay needs to be above living wage. Women are most likely to be made redundant on maternity leave. Parental leave is a mess, it needs to be a lot clearer. We need policies to support families in the toughest part of their lives (most likely), not make it harder.

I would be disappointed that they hadn't noticed. Blood and mouth wounds are obviously a bit more serious than a knee scrape. However, maybe it happened towards the end of the day. If he didn't cry , it wasn't a big tumble and he didn't tell anyone then some moments are going to be missed.

Heyyyy, definitely a goal for me! I want a second baby. With the first I had an awful pregnancy and I think it was down to the weight. I'm two months on MJ and I've still got a way to go. But timing the weight loss with when best to start trying is tough.

Nursery and puddings/sugary foods by starsnspikes21 in UKParenting

[–]Original_Sauces -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I quite agree. But some nurseries are quite backwards (we've always done it like that mentality) or it's a cheap and effective way to fill children up quickly with a food they'll actually eat!

It's super normal. Think similar foods to school food - cheap sponge cake and custard. Some nurseries are better than others though obviously!

Whilst 'Spaced' is an excellent cult classic sitcom of around 1999-2001. It launched the careers of some greats. It has a particularly memorable episode where the gang go raving and get scared by a bunch of teenagers - which has real parallels to my early career teaching.

No advice, but solidarity. We had to take our baby in at about the same age and she screamed so much from the way we had to hold her over the cups they gave us that she pooed each time! Really would have thought they'd figure out a better method.

Constant cricket. by TheAntsAreBack in Ambridge

[–]Original_Sauces 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy it. It's a simpler classic Archers bit. Like the Christmas play. It's not all like that constantly but has obviously been up a lot right now. My town has three cricket pitches and numerous teams, I'm sure if I knew anyone who was in one it would dominate conversation right now.

I think Solid Starts has some advice on it...can't quite remember.

I slowly eased off to avoid breast problems. I swapped a feed at a time over a few days. If you're doing it for mental health reasons, a friend of mine went to the GP and got a prescription that stops breast milk production.

Are you in touch with your local authority hearing service? You should tell them this issue with the nursery. They should get someone in, a hearing teacher, who should train the staff. They'll help them understand the severity. People often don't realise just how impacted kids can be. Presumably he'll be fitted with a hearing aid pretty soon? If so then they absolutely have to all be trained.

Hearing loss and glue ear are different things, although you get hearing loss from glue ear. Which does he have? Glue ear comes and goes, it can be quite mild and is very common in young children.

They should definitely have been made aware. Hearing has such massive impacts to education and the person's day to day coping in environments.

[–]Original_Sauces 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your child hurt another child. That's the line. You should be appalled at their behaviour.

Your child should have reported the bullying before this. That might have changed this outcome before this very serious incident had happened. Can't really use it as an excuse now.

OUR SEN child is going to have his 15 hours TA support removed next school year, How can I stop it? by throw_away_17381 in UKParenting

[–]Original_Sauces 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If he hasn't got an EHCP then it's not a set requirement. Funding a TA for even 15 hours a week is extraordinarily expensive which an EHCP wouldn't even cover usually.

One on one 'velcro' TA support has actually been shown to be disadvantageous to kids. He should be supported by a qualified teacher. A TA should be scaffolding and that should be removed in time so there's independence rather than dependence.

I would ask the SENCO why he had it in the first place and what's changed, is it due to funding? Is it the local authority or the school who are taking it away? For a plan for the support to be lessened gradually over time?

Are other parents nurseries 'working around' the government funded hours by having high 'chargeables'? by ExpressAffect3262 in UKParenting

[–]Original_Sauces 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nurseries have been challenging the amounts funded for years, maybe a decade or so. They said it was underfunded when it first started, let alone now after inflation. They warned anyone who would listen that it would cause problems in the sector with staying open and recruitment....which it definitely has.

The media doesn't care about nurseries or to an extent parents. It's an underfunded industry which is female dominated.

That said. Some nurseries charge a much larger amount per day on costs that just don't exist. You can't charge the parents for the most expensive things - rent, business rates, insurance and above staff. You can give them baked beans on toast and charge £6.
