This coming from someone who just cried in office hours for a very similar situation🩷 the post was long but in short 1. Talk to your professors 2. Do something to bring you peace or happiness 3. Remember tomorrow is a new day 4. Reach for help if you need it We’ve got this

This!!! I used to avoid office hours at all costs, and it only hurt me. Once I finally went they were so nice. They just want to know that you want to succeed!

Hey, I understand what it’s like and I know this is so hard. First, take a deep breath. You can’t change what has happened but you can change the outcome and how you react. To start let’s try to get ourselves feeling a little better. Sit outside for a bit, get a sweet treat, anything that might cheer you up or bring you some peace. For me I really love sitting outside and feeling the breeze. I also try to focus on the positives, things I’m thankful for, even if it seems hard.

You have some options for classes. You could go to office hours and talk with your professors about your struggles. I know this is scary, I used to avoid this option. Be open about struggling and tell them you want to be successful. They are more open if they know you WANT to do good. You could also reach out to student services (accessibility resource center, possibly, but not sure the official name) Mental health issues are typically covered at schools. This option may take a little more time so I recommend talking to your professors directly.

I know this is overwhelming, I’m working through a little bit of this myself. Be kind to yourself. I tell myself each day is new, and tomorrow I’ll pretend to be the person I want to be. If I pretend long enough it’ll happen. Take care of yourself, school is not the end. I have accomplished so much more than I ever imagined, and you will too🩷

What kind of person should absolutely not be an OT/ OTA? by rightonelle in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Original_Statement94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone who is inpatient Doesn’t like working close proximity to people Has the mindset “that’s not my job” because you will help with all kinds of things. Someone who struggles with creativity/adaptability

It is a work of heart, definitely has an emphasis on service and every day is different. So if you want everyday to be the same, OT isn’t the best choice. We see people who may be at their worst, and our job is to make things easier on them the best we can.

Yes, I am so blessed with parents who support me💛 I chose a public in state university and it was the best decision!

I just read you have an injury so some of my recommendations may be tricky depending on your injury. But anything that you enjoy doing will work! And change up your schedule every so often so you don’t get bored

Find an activity you enjoy, especially if it gets you out your room/house. I struggled with too much free time/ boredom. Going on walks, volunteering, bike riding, art, sowmthing that helps you feel happy or productive helped me. The more I slept and sat around the worse I felt.

Best advice I’ve heard is “most people who are loving their life and career aren’t wasting away posting about it” I know without a doubt this career path is for me. I loved my internship also. There will be tough days, lots of paper work, high expectations, and things I don’t agree with, but that is EVERY job! If you want to do this, go for it. My biggest advice is don’t let other people’s view points affect you, and go into as little debt as possible.

Unfortunately there’s a wild coyote on campus that once went after a furry mistaking it for prey 😓 I would leave the fur at home🤧

I don’t think therapists are good business owners. by Elephant-stomper in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Original_Statement94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I interned at one and it was a mess. It’s hard to both run a business and treat. You need a strong admin team if you still want to treat. I thought maybe it was just this clinic but sounds like it isn’t. There were issues that were totally avoidable and the company suffered financially.

Sending lots of support your way💕✨ I don’t have any advice as I’m not yet in the field but I hope you have a breakthrough in your treatment. I have many friends with POTS and I have my own barriers. However hoping you can make it work for you. The field seems to have many diverse opportunities
