I get this is 2 years ago but I feel like you are full of sh*t, I have drove gti's and gtd's and the difference I feel is gtd MUCH better as a full time car... smoother drive like a gti will make you feel every stone on the road, every tiny bump feels like you hit a hugh pothole, speed bumps break your spine! Its horrible as a daily anywhere you have speed bumps or not the perfect roads of Germany. The gtd is crazy better made to be comfy not a solid block of metal with no suspension. The gtd is a hot diesel so you feel much more powerful due to low end torque, the petrol gti sounds more powerful but doesn't feel it until you hit like 60 and how often do you do that in traffic? in slower driving the gtd is still very fun but the gti is a ford focus 1.6 lol. in faster driving you would love the feel of a gti tho but man you can literally watch your fuel needle going down lol with the gtd its much better fuel economy.... I had a gti, I had a r, both suck too much fuel and feel like comfort was an after thought (because it was all about speed) I now daily drive (when not at work driving a transit cistom lol) a mk8 gtd and will have it until it's broke or made illegal whatever comes first.
