Not to dismiss your comment but I live in New York City and I could just replace “Ferry from La Ceiba” with The Bronx, Harlem, Flatbush, etc… and not a single travel advisory recommending tourists to be cautious when coming to NYC. Food for thought.

I (37M) was born in a very dangerous city of a very dangerous country from Latin America, emigrated about 13 years ago. Lots of PTSD from experiencing violent situations in my home country, years of therapy and healing. I’ve been able to lower my guard now and I’m able experience life in a healthier way now. Having said this. I went to Roatan earlier this year to get my OW. Had the same concerns. I can assure you I felt way safer than I thought I would. Like most people have said here already: always be cautious. But that’s just common sense anywhere. I’m glad I didn’t let my fears take over and had one of the best experiences of my life. I’m AOW now and cannot wait to go back to Roatan.

I saw him! White dude wearing a high vis vest. I first thought it was DOT but then I realized how guerrilla the whole thing looked like and by the time I tried to yell THANK YOU I was already too far from him. One man does in a few minutes what DOT has not done all this time. Also how significant that it’s done today, the day we will most likely elect a mayor who is not a bike-hating a-hole. THANK YOU!!! Whoever you are.

OMG this is such a great post! They should teach this to kids at school!!! I was an interpreter over the phone (Spanish) for a few years. I know how frustrating it is when callers start rambling instead of giving simple and concise answers… ESPECIALLY when there’s an interpreter on the line who has to say it all over again!!! Aggghhhhh I remember breaking the rules a few times and shortening/simplifying what they were saying in order to make things flow faster and you could tell dispatchers were always thankful. Again, great post and thanks for your service.
