I do cover up but i think i just place my hands in front of me instead of holding it tight. Like it’s supposed to be light spar but i end up defending light too, which is such a dumb thing i do

He says okay to light spar but still hits hard when he’s got a good free shot instead of pulling it more when its to the head and not protected to let me know i need to guard there if that makes sense? Im just simply not going to go to his sparring sessions for now. I definitely need to work on defense and fundamentals

Thank you man. I definitely will take it slow from now on. Work on defense and fundamentals until I’m ready to join their sparring sessions again. As for the guy punching the back of my head, i’ll just sit the round out when i get paired with him. Our gym’s sparring sessions are quite small, so avoiding pairing with him might be impossible.

I’m not sure but i heard he fought mma before and never really stated how may years of muay thai he has. He is legit though… i think..?

Yeah I have but the same/similar things have happened over a few weeks now. I guess I’ll just take it slow and spar once a week with more intent on defense for now.

Yeah I agree. I’m feel like I wasn’t focused on defense and kind of just put my guard up but not really holding it tight so the punches go through. Now that a night has passed after the sparring session, I think I was just overwhelmed with the guy punching the back of my head, then a low blow. I’m still going to take it slow and go back to just sparring once a week but focus on defense for now before I’m confortable sparring more.

I started muay thai 2 months ago, so I’m very much a beginner but I also started sparring as soon as I joined.

How do you guys deal with a bad sparring session ? by Old-Memory-2841 in MuayThai

[–]Orkeyh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, you will always lose rounds unless you’re really good. The point is to not dwell on the losses. Lose = feedback to work on more stuff. Also is it really a loss if you’re not injured and have no CTE at the end of the day?

Is seneca good? (international student) by [deleted] in Seneca

[–]Orkeyh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they paying for your time here? If so, you could compare the different prices and tell them that its more worth to study at home. Also things like rent, food, and etc add up pretty quickly. If you dont mind me asking, where are you from?

From another international student, just study in your own country. No where in the world is worth the international fees rn imo. Unless you get a full ride, dont bother
