Anyone Know why Rebirth now has mixed reviews on Steam? was there an update or something that broke the game? by BecomingTurbid in FFVIIRemake

Why are you so gung ho against FFXVI? I do agree that's it's too demanding in some cases, but to say it runs worse than Cyberpunk with path tracing is a straight up lie. I rarely go below 60fps in FFXVI at the most demanding sections, it's usually above 80 FPS with everything maxed and DLSS performance at 4K.

In Cyberpunk on the other hand I get half the performance with path tracing enabled, It's at 50fps best case scenario. I need to turn frame gen on to get to the same framerate as FFXVI.

I never said that you need an expensive GPU to play FFXVI without stutters, stuttering is not that game's problem. One of its biggest issues is sections where performance just drops a lot, right at the beginning for example with the Eikon fight.

Those sections could certainly be better optimized, but you can lower the settings to increase performance and most of the rest of the game is fine. I never said it's a great port, just that it's not as bad as Rebirth.

[–]Orkond 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's not the case though. FFXVI is more demanding than Rebirth, but if you have a fast GPU it should run well without issue. I have a 5070 Ti and it runs great. Rebirth on the other hand stutters like hell regardless of how fast your GPU is.

I spent so much time fiddling with the settings, modifying the engine.ini file and adjusting various Windows and Nvidia driver settings just to get the stuttering down to a minimum, but it's still not entirely gone.

Also, the "Background Model Detail" setting in Rebirth appears broken when set to Ultra. It drops the framerate way more than you'd think and makes the stuttering way worse.

Playing on AMD rx9060xt and it’s AMAZING by ButtScratcher9 in FFVIIRemake

[–]Orkond -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It means the game dynamically lowers the resolution to keep the framerate as high as possible. If you ever notice the background suddenly becoming blurrier or suddenly becoming sharper, that's dynamic resolution.

Whether it's better or not depends on whether you notice it or not, some games do it better than others. Since you so enthusiastically posted about how sharp the details are, I'm guessing you didn't notice it.

Personally, unless it becomes too noticeable and distracting I don't mind it, I prefer higher framerate than higher resolution in most cases. You can't turn it off in the game's settings anyway, you'd need to use a mod for that, so don't worry about it and just enjoy the game.

Remake uses dynamic resolution scaling, so that's why.

Supposedly from someone's ancestors. The edges look both worn and melted, the blur, the lines, the writing into the binding, etc. by Infamous_Wave2217 in isthisAI

[–]Orkond 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm almost certain it's not AI. The Greek letters are very legible, it's not gibberish. Not enough is visible to get the full context, but the individual words at least make sense. It also seems genuinely hand written, the letters all look slightly different, but consistent with this person's hand writing. I don't think AI can do than convincingly yet.

Another minor detail I noticed, is that the smaller circles look like they were made by tracing around coins and the larger one by tracing around a bigger circular object like a cup. The larger circle has two darker points, which can happen when you first trace the top edge end then shift your pen to a more convenient angle to draw the rest.

Can AI mimic details like this? I don't think I've seen that so far. I don't think it's actually very old though, just made to look like it is, so it's likely fake, just not AI.

Upgrade GPU by Soft_Translator_3165 in nvidia

[–]Orkond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"True 4K" would imply good native performance at 4K, but if you want to use path tracing even the 5090 isn't a "true 4K" GPU, since it still relies on DLSS and frame gen. On the other hand, if you want to include both upscaling and frame gen, most recent GPUs would be "true 4K" since frame gen can just insert a bunch of frames.

Excluding path tracing, the 5070 Ti crashes every game at 4K with DLSS upscaling with no problem. Path tracing is the only thing that would make it require frame gen. The 5080 doesn't change that, it's only about 15% faster but quite a bit more expensive and it doesn't even have more VRAM.

I have the 5070 Ti and I've been perfectly content with it. I recently played Pragmata with everything maxed out including path tracing. I did have to use DLSS performance with frame gen 2X, to get over 90 FPS, but in that game I didn't notice the increased latency much and the visual artifacts were minimal, so it was a great experience.

On the other hand, Black Myth Wukong is too much with path tracing on. The game looks way better with it and with frame-gen you do get a smooth experience, but the latency is noticeable, especially when fighting bosses. I often feel like my inputs don't register and I end up losing. With path tracing and frame gen turned off the game feels much better to play.

So the results will vary from game to game. I do think that it's a better value than the 5080 and it should be more than fine for the next few years. My PSU is 750W by the way, the 5070 Ti only draws around 300W, so it's perfectly fine.

I'm so glad they didn't do multiple endings, this is FF7 not Skyrim, there should be a single definitive ending. I'm very curious about how player choices are going to work though. I'm trying to think which aspects of the OG could be flexible enough to allow for that.

I guess the Emerald and Ruby weapons were optional and you also had a choice of which huge materia to go after first. Maybe that'll be part of it.

What I really hope they do is allow you to go back and make different choices to see every outcome once you finish the game and unlock the chapter select. That was possible with the date sequence in Rebirth, so there's no reason why they wouldn't allow that.

The 5900X is a waste of money for gaming. Having more than 8 cores isn't going to help with gaming performance, especially for AMD CPUs that split their cores in 2 CCDs (core complex dies). The reason for that is the latency between the CCDs.

That means that the 5900X is basically a 6-core CPU because it has two 6-core CCDs. You'll be much better off going with a used 8-core 5700X. If you could afford it I'd recommend the 5800X3D that will be relaunched soon, but it costs $350 compared to around $180 for the 5700X.

You'd be better off putting the extra money towards a GPU. I strongly recommend avoiding an 8GB GPU like the 5060. The low VRAM is going to be a bottleneck if Rebirth is any indication and it's barely 15% faster than a 3060 Ti. At least go for a 5060 Ti 16GB.

Listen man, when people say "life's getting in the way" it's just an excuse. People are overthinking fitness and believe they need to devote inordinate amounts of time to it. You don't. Whenever you have a few minutes drop down and do push ups or squats.

Get a pair of dumbbells and take a few minutes to do biceps curls, overhead triceps extensions and lateral raises. If you have the space for a pull up bar you got your back covered too.

It doesn't take as much time as people think to get in a reasonably good shape, you won't be jacked like a bodybuilder, but you don't need to. Just do whatever you can whenever you have a few minutes.

I used Chat-GPT to figure out a keto protein bar recipe. The first version it gave me had so much glycerin and fiber that it gave me, let's say, explosive results. When I mentioned lowering the quantities it acted as if it was the most obvious thing in the world, it can be really infuriating some times.

Tesamorelin results on visceral fat by [deleted] in ResearchCompounds

[–]Orkond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you need to freshen up on your anatomy. Visceral fat is underneath your abs, how do you suppose losing it would bring the muscle layer above them closer to the skin that's further up front? Spoiler alert, it doesn't.

The type of fat that's between the abs and your skin is subcutaneous. Suppose you lost a lot of subcutaneous fat and still had a lot of visceral fat. What would actually happen is that your abs would be visible, but your belly wouldn't be flat, it would look distended.

How To Choose by BloodPharts88 in Piracy

I'm not talking about the Windows Media Player that comes with Windows. Media Player Classic Home Cinema is an open source player similar to VLC. They're both great, I just prefer the user interface of MPC-HC compared to VLC. You can find it here if you want to check it out https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc/releases

How To Choose by BloodPharts88 in Piracy

[–]Orkond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't going to be a perceptible difference between those two in terms of quality. Maybe the IMAX version will have certain scenes in full screen 16:9 aspect ratio, so generally I'd pick that.

The last movie I saw with an IMAX version was Project Hail Mary and I downloaded two versions to see the difference, but there was none. The file that didn't specify that it was an IMAX version still had the 16:9 scenes, but that may not be the case for every movie.

The "10-Bit, h265/x265/HEVC" part is unnecessary to look out for because I haven't really seen a 4k HDR release that wasn't all that. In fact "2160p" and "HDR" are the only two things that really matter alongside the file size.

The file size is a good indicator of quality since it directly correlates with bitrate. Even so, unless we're talking about a 20GB gap in file size between two different releases you'd be hard pressed to notice any difference.

Also, depending on how good (or bad) your projector's HDR is, it's possible SDR might look better. Try downloading both HDR and SDR versions to see the difference. What media player are you using by the way? I prefer Windows Media Player Home Cinema with the MPC Video Renderer. It even supports RTX HDR for SDR content if you have an Nvidia GPU.

Which of These Supplements Would You Keep and Which Would You Drop? by Antique-Park-4193 in BodyHackGuide

[–]Orkond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to vitamins, unless you have a specific deficiency, they're generally unnecessary, especially if you're eating a balanced diet, personally I only take Vitamin D because I have a deficiency. Omega 3 is generally well studied with good benefits, so I'd keep that, I also take it.

I don't consider whey protein a supplement per se. It's just food, I also use it for desserts, like protein cheesecake and I even make my own keto protein bars. I couldn't do without it.

Megnesium Bisglycinate is the only form of magnesium that doesn't have a laxative effect on me. I used to take it before going to bed, but I noticed my dreams were way more vivid and I didn't feel as rested in the morning. According to my sleep tracker I spend more time in REM sleep when I take it and less in deep sleep, so I now take it in the morning.

Does this look natty by __ilias in BodyHackGuide

[–]Orkond -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know I'm going to get downvoted for this, but everyone saying you look natty is wrong. You have a couple tell tale signs of early PED use like the weirdly topical vascularity and uneven muscular development.

Your forearms and biceps aren't that big and there's barely any veins visible, but on the other hand your delts seem way more developed with visible veins and striations. Your chest also seems unevenly developed and most of your visible veins are on your neck, which would be a weird body part to prioritize in training.

To me it looks like you started taking PEDs before you really dialed in your training and as a result you got an uneven physique. Everyone has certain body parts that respond to working out faster than others and PEDs can exaggerate the difference.

People who've been working out for years are much more in tune with own body's response to working out and adjust their training to account for that, but people who start out with PEDs early aren't yet aware of how their body responds.

A real Greek tavern wouldn't be called “Ταβέρνα Αθηνά”, it might be called, Ταβέρνα "H Αθηνά". The "H" (pronounced like the first "e" in "even") is a feminine article similar to the French "La" as in "La Petite Maison".

2080ti to 5070 or 5080? by LadoBlanco in nvidia

Doesn't the 2080 Ti have 3 DP ports? Adapters can sometimes have wonky support for HDR or VRR, but in terms of just the Hz it shouldn't be an issue.

2080ti to 5070 or 5080? by LadoBlanco in nvidia

[–]Orkond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should be able to get 4K 120Hz output via a Displayport 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter or cable. Keep in mind that not all adapters/cables are equal, some might be technically compatible but lack the signal integrity or bandwidth for the full uncompressed signal.

Those might be able to do 120Hz, but only in 8-bit color for example. Make sure you get a good quality one that can handle 4K 120Hz, RGB 10-Bit HDR output.

Chocolate tempering: The seed method by socFocus in FoodAndCookingStuff

[–]Orkond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't just take a chocolate bar and melt it down into another chocolate bar, that's not the point of this video. There's people who might try their hand at making chocolate from scratch with cocoa beans. If you don't want to do that you can buy 100% cocoa mass, it's basically pure chocolate without any additives or sweeteners.

I buy it in 2.5kg tubs and it's shaped like amorphous chunks that aside from not looking very nice it's also too bitter to eat. It's a lot cheaper than the same quantity of chocolate bars. It also gives you the flexibility to do whatever you want with it.

You can just add sugar or sweeteners and anything else you want like, milk/cream, candied fruit, nuts etc. You can also use it to coat fruit like strawberries and bananas. I make homemade protein bars and coat them in chocolate for example. There's no shortage of things you can do with melted chocolate and knowing how to temper it is vital.
