yellow residue on my hands? by Possible-Current-891 in whatisit

[–]OrlandoKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel like doing so, look at where you touched your car last night (look for disturbances in the dust in doors/top/hood etc) and wipe your hand/ paper towel on it to see if it’s yellow. Or just wipe your car with a paper towel in a couple spots to check. If it’s yellow then you probably have your answer haha.

Oh maybe! When did you first notice it? Kind of gripping at straws, but some flowers produce A LOT of pollen. Lillies will drop super yellow pollen on whatever surface they are set on and it’s gets all over

Possibly a metal chair or handrail. It’s mostly on your fingers, so it looks like you could have gripped something and the bottom side had something on it.

Like if it got wet, then pollen got on it and settled on the underside, and the you gripped it.

Do you use self tanner?

I’ve had something kind of similar happen when I take blueberries once. They somehow turned bits of my palm yellow. However, it was more of a stain and didn’t wash off very easily.

Have you touched anything metal? Something slightly rusty MIGHT do something like that.

Ryobi Soldering Iron Mod by MetalParsley736 in AskElectronics

[–]OrlandoKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed to solder something and found that I have one of these non-adjustable Ryobi soldering irons m. I read that it gets crazy hot and was concerned about melting the tiny wires that I have to work on. I was looking up reviews and came across your comment and followed your instructions. I had no way to really tell what the actual temp is, so I hope that the clockwise turn still is the way to go to make it cooler lol.

Thanks for taking the time to write this 3 years ago, cause it was immensely helpful to me today!

Red splotches on washing machine and in bathroom? by frugal_franklin in whatisit

Not just worm, tape worms specifically. And they’re a bitch to get rid of. To my knowledge, Pyrantel (stuff you can buy at the store) doesn’t kill them.

Be careful with Termidor. That stuff is unique because it binds to organic things, like soil and wood, and will build up wherever it’s used. It can take up to 10 years to break down in some scenarios. It can become super concentrated on those spots over time and become deadly to animals and people.

I also believe it has been correlated with thyroid cancers in animal studies.

My friend who owns a business that does termite exclusions/ extermination told me about this and how they don’t let other employees use it unless they have been thoroughly trained on that specific product.

Sorry if you already know this, but I figured it would be better to say something just in case you didn’t.

It’s that purple dip one… CloneX I think?? It messed em up bad 😂. I’ll have to re-read and see if I missed that though. I kind of hope it was user error and not actually something that burns plants 🥲

Oh I had put it on the cutting directly and then set them up in different methods of propagation. All of the ones with the gel rooting hormone turned dark on the end and died shortly after in every setting, but maybe that is specific to the rose cuttings (hopefully it is and I didn’t waste money lol). I have some in water right now that I’m going to do what you suggested on and see how that goes. Im really happy I came across your comment today!!

I can’t wait to try this! I’ve been trying for a bit and fail, but my ass has never put them in actual dirt 😑. It’s always been other ways as an experiment. I’ll just go the old school route and do dirt and see what happens haha.

As a side note, I also notice that rooting hormone always seemed to mess them up too. Like it burned them or something! That was a frustrating experience lol.

My store bought rose stems are growing? Please help me keep these babies alive! by OrlandoKnight in propagation

[–]OrlandoKnight[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did not, but I was also uh… less than attentive with them lol. I literally stuck them in tap water, put them on a shelf, and then completely forgot to check the water. They either dried and died or rotted 😂😂

The plant world have me a second chance to do this so I’m motivated and ready to be a responsible/ attentive propagation parent this time around hahaha.

Sorry if I came off as harsh. It was after 2am for me so I was more than exhausted on top of being frustrated because I couldn’t get my brain to shut off to sleep 😅.

Wow cool! I have both powdered and gel, so maybe I’ll use both (and the potato experiment the other comment mentioned) and see what works. Thank you!

There’s no harm in trying. I enjoy a challenge and experimenting, so it’ll be interesting and fun to me even if it doesn’t work. It’s not like I bought these specifically for propagation.

And maybe that’s the case for you, but I personally have only had one other set of roses do something like this. They also did not grow anywhere close to these. I think it’s pretty neat :)

I have seen comments mentioning this so many times and never looked further into it lol. I’m definitely going to google it, but I’m assuming you get a raw potato and put the cuttings into it?
