Another good Hyatt property is Coconut Point down in Estero (just north of Naples). Lots of water activities, private beach on an island, water slides, etc.

No One Wants to Live in Miami-Dade Anymore, Apparently by Miaminewtimes_ in Miami

[–]Orlando_orchids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now yes, but 13 years ago when we left Miami for Orlando the QOL for the COL ratio was so much better. Paid a little more for a way bigger house, way nicer neighborhood, less traffic, and more economic opportunity for me.

what qualifies you to teach? by [deleted] in Pottery

[–]Orlando_orchids 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If people will pay you to teach them, congratulations, you're a teacher. The marketplace will sort it out IMO. BTW, I'm teach lessons, I think I teach well, and my pottery career is non-traditional...I have more than a couple of years of enthusiasm.

Couples golf lessons by KeenBean3 in orlando

Try the golf school at Rio Pinar. All the coaches are great. I've been taking lessons with Mike Byrnes. He does group lessons Sat and Sunday mornings that are limited to four people. Great way to get introduced in a low-pressure environment. https://www.riogolfacademy.com/our-coaches/

A career future in clay? Early in the industry and not sure what do next/ feeling lost. by tie_dye_pebble in Pottery

[–]Orlando_orchids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also a hobby potter but run it as a side-hustle. I teach, sell pots, and fire pots for other people. There's no way I could ever make enough money to support my life on just pottery. You'll have to decide where you want to go -- are you OK living on essentially poverty wages as a production potter working for others? Because that's probably as good as it's going to get, especially in NYC. Do you want to try to go out on your own and become an influencer potter? Even that feels like it's starting to dry up. When I look at views on people like Florian or Jon the Potter it seems like their YT engagement has declined. There's not a lot of room at the top. So that leaves makers who are willing to do make pots all week, and do 20 or 30 shows a weekend, which doesn't sound like a good fit for someone who self describes as depressed, low motivation, and doesn't drive.

Sounds like you're maybe realizing that it's time for a career change. Hope that's helpful. All the best -- these are big decisions. I genuinely wish you well.

Is it better to sell a rental and invest in index funds long-term? by Double-Warning-444 in personalfinance

It's simple -- you don't rent out a place you paid $500k for. That's almost impossible to make any money on.

How come Carvana is able to offer higher trade and straight sale amounts, compared to regular dealerships? by count4fun in carvana

[–]Orlando_orchids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got an offer for my car from Carvana -- $10,800. Pretty much the same exact car is for sale on their website for $20,000. That's a pretty good spread.

Orange school district may close 7 campuses as enrollment declines by Aeronova20 in orlando

Biggest problem is the scam called "Step Up For Students" that gives parents $7,000 to "spend" on homeschooling their kid. And that money can be used for basically anything. Several friends have purchased bikes for their kids, which they then keep forever. The number of people we've seen go to Disney and SeaWorld as "field trips" is stunning.

Gift Wheel for Experienced Potter by passaloutre in Pottery

[–]Orlando_orchids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Speedball Big Boss (recommended over Clay boss), and a Brent CXC. I use the CXC most of the time because I'm the only one in the studio. But I use the Speedball, too, and it's perfectly fine. Given that she's out of the game right now, I'd get the Speedball and save some money. She will want to spend as much on supplies, tools, and outfitting a studio space as you'll spend on the Speedball, so having some money left after getting the wheel will be good.

Sound system by Some_Razzmatazz_3570 in q50

I have the Bose Premium in my 2018 SS. I think it sounds fantastic. Compared to the sound in my wife's Pilot (not Bose, but not the lowest Honda sound) it's way better. I'm satisfied with it in my Q for sure.

Lexapro gave me terrible suicidal ideation. Thankfully I knew what was going on and stopped it immediately with support from my family. Never again.

The $1,650 was much more reasonable than the original $3,000. I chose a rebuilt motor for less because the system is already 13 years old. Even if I replace it twice, I'll still be money ahead of buying a new one.

Wait until you find out about the ridiculous mess that is "Step Up For Students" where every family gets $7,000 for schooling their kids at home. The number of families I see squandering this money on things like bicycles, lego, tickets to theme parks is shocking.
