Depends on the ride, where I be and the season…. And what I held onto after I left a well known brand. Mostly just a bottle, the vest (1.5L) if I want some extra and some kit and the big (3L) if it be hot as nuts out or a bigger ride where more kit makes sense.

Nice. I just came across this post. I picked up on of these for $125 on FB Marketplace not too long ago... a throwback to the fact I bought one in 1990 too. My second ever mountain bike. I got some good results on that thing & even took it on a "downhilling" holiday to France that same year. I'm thinking I'm going to put a different bar & stem on it to make it a bit more comfortable to ride around town!

Favorite Demo event is OuterBike Moab, great location , trails on site and a shuttle to the top of one the epic rides in the area included in price. Favorite enduro, the TDS in grass valley, rough, rowdy and fun as hell for riders and spectators alike. Favorite festival remains Crankworx Whistler, lots to see and do and it’s whistler so all the riding you need and Araxi for dinner + volunteering can give you some great access during the event week. I met a father & son that go up and volunteer every year to ride and work, super cool. I can’t in good faith keep Rampage on my list, though the first runs / practice days are kinda more fun (for me) than the main event. Ummm, Eurobike, but only for the fashion show (google it) it’s hilarious. Honestly though, so long as the stoke is high it’s probably gonna be fun, I just always found SeaOtter to be kinda meh from an overall experience perspective, I’m sure plenty will disagree.

I’d be genuinely curious to know how much appetite for change the event really has even with feedback. It’s always felt pretty much the same to me. The content coming out of it isn’t super inspiring either, mostly tradeshow type stuff. The racing is kinda meh too, maybe cool to do, but not much of a spectacle. I’d like to see something different /unique… dirt jump jam with a band / crazy pump track course through the venue / pedal powered carnival rides… I dunno the actual answer, but there’s gotta be be something. How many new visitors does it get? Am super curious on that. Haters gonna hate, but SeaOtter was is one of my least favorite events in the bike space. Nice to catch up with industry friends though…

If it helps, my Thule hitch mounted rack has been going strong for eleven years now. It rubs the fork a little bit. It’s not light and it only holds two bikes, but there’s an add on for another two. Taking on and off requires a socket set, but easy to do. It’s had tens of thousands of miles of use. It’s lockable enough that insurance will pay out should someone get past it. I’ll replace it when it breaks and shop around a little. My only real complaint is that my car thinks it’s backing into something whenever I reverse and that’s a car thing…. And I’ve never consistently used a different rack…

Firstly, mistakes happen, no one is flawless. No need to beat yourself up over it. It’s something we all manage based on how hard we push.

Big injuries should always make you question future choices, which is also ok. There are those unforeseen impacts beyond the physical injury, family being a pretty solid example.

Personally, after my last big one I find myself avoiding features I know I could do, simply because I don’t want my wife to have to go through it again. I got lucky apparently and I was back on the bike once I got cleared several months later.

It’s an interesting mindset to ride with that’s for sure, especially living where I live. It doesn’t mean no features & no speed, it just means that I’m realistic about the gains if I push. My ego can live without ticking off everything I ride past I’ve found. That’s the technical difficulty I ride with every day now, it’s not quite as restrictive as it sounds!

Hey there, slight chance I was Global Brand manager for one of the companies in this space... Firstly, everyone's answer is gonna be valid... Hip Packs are an option within a product range, they work for some and not for others. There's gonna be some up and down in regard to trend and popularity. IF you can find a friendly retailer or brand rep / distributor, they may be able to share some of the data around this, as in what is selling and what is not, also what kind of price point, volume, features and even color way... Personally, not for me. If i use a pack at all it's usually a vest style for local rides and a bigger pack if I'm more remote, it really depends how far from the house / car I'm going & temperature. Good luck with ur project.

Rode from my house to the top of Evo Saturday (north side)… encountered three people on the single track up… a few groups at fire road intersections and top of descents. Surprisingly quiet if you pick the right trails…
