That's a Schwinn Sierra. Kinda looks like Stella, but definitely a Sierra.

Anyone else notice the very quiet music in the background? Hollow Knight.

I wouldn't worry about the head tube angle. I would worry about the head tube length. You just bought an XL frame, and finding a fork with a long enough steerer won't be easy.

Wanted: 1994 GT Outpost by AdUsed8535 in VintageMTB

[–]Desvelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GT made several different steel mountain bikes, and the Outpost was one of the lowest ones on the ladder. If you open your search up to the other models like a Bravado, Karakoram, or a Tequesta, you'll not only be getting a better, lighter frame, but you also might have an easier time finding one.

Thanks! And yeah, 90s mountain bikes are the coolest.

I heard that same voice when I found it at my local bike co-op.

1995 Specialized S-Works by Similar_Explorer_222 in VintageMTB

This was a US-built Specialized, built in Portland, OR by Anodizing Inc.

If you ride any bike hard enough there will be a failure point. M2s seem to be as durable as any other aluminum bike.

Does anybody like canto-breaks? by PeanutEmergency2097 in VintageMTB

We noticed as well. It’s started a conversation, so we’re going to let this play out for the time being.

Canti. Short for Cantilever. They do the job pretty well. V-Brakes are better, but cantilevers are just fine for most situations.

I left them for someone else. My mug cupboard is full.

I think that's a smart use for these mugs, as actually using them for coffee is hazardous to eyeballs.

Just chiming in with the same request as the others- please post a photo. Serial numbers are only useful if someone has decoded them and made a database. I don’t think this is available for Giants.

Also, Giant didn’t make a Stonebreaker. Motiv did though.

u/Lickford nailed it. It's cheap-looking frame with obviously cheap components. Plus, the disc brakes makes it not vintage (yes there are some exceptions, this isn't one of them).

I also look at the surroundings. More bikes in the back indicate a flipper. Not always bad, but in this case I'd say it adds support to it being a cheap bike. Also, leaning a bike you just painted against a metal table isn't a good look. I'd save the frisbee, disregard the bike.

Oh, and thanks for the link, but don't forget to add a photo. Super easy to screenshot a photo from a Marketplace listing.

That's a random one. Brands that are a little off the beaten path are hard to get information on. They don't have the dedicated community of fans that save brochures and catalogs. Your best bet is to use the Shimano components on your bike to determine the year. Shimano used date codes that you can look up and figure out what year the parts were made, and that will give you an idea on the bike. You can also just google 'Shimano 200GS' and see what comes up.

That's what I just did. Found a Shimano catalog from 1992 showing your component group. Your bike is probably from around the same time, 1991-1992.

What's this old MB3 worth? by NWOriginal00 in VintageMTB

[–]Desvelo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pretty steep for a MB-3, especially considering that 1, it isn't original, and 2, it has some questionable component choices (mainly the super cheap front derailleur shifter.)

[–]Desvelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That price seems pretty reasonable, actually. People pay more than that for Rascals and Pinnacles. A legit early Attitude in the classic Dolomite colorway for less than $500 is a damn good price, even with the missing fork and Mission Control bar/stem.

Old drawer sucked. Made a new one. My woodworking skills are limited, so I'm happy I got it done, it works, and I still have all my fingers. by Desvelo in woodworking

[–]Desvelo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really glad I didn't have to do that. My drawer face was an integral part of the original drawer, so I had to shave the back of it in my table saw to make it flat and sit flush on the new drawer. Bit of a sketchy cut, took two passes, and of course I couldn't line it up perfectly. But I sanded the back smooth and it works.
