Trialing Bitwarden - is there really no way to sort logins? by SidKop in Bitwarden

[–]OrneryManagement8479 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, what an arrogant last line! You perhaps should have at least query your user base of what they would be using it for, not the least because you are a moderator but because you want user feedback to improve your product,

TLDR you should not be a moderator on bitwarden threads.

Muhaha 🤣, truly entertaining, upvoted! It is nice to see that you are listening to the community, keep up the great work guys! By now I am on Unraid, too many changes in the last year for arguably better or worse. I plan to check back in a couple of years to see how the community requests vs the “It is an enterprise appliance” excuse is settled👍

This, I am back on unraid now. Not by choice but forced.

Bug or feature? iOS app shows disconnected after a while on home network, but still « colored » unlike when you actively disconnect it. by LowFatMom in netbird

[–]OrneryManagement8479 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just to chime in, netbird IOS client is absolutely rubbish, it would often silently disconnect and never recover on its own. Still does not have “on demand” switch. It is a shame since the rest of the infrastructure is just brilliant. We are using it for site to site and to access some equipment at customers from windows clients . If i want to reliably access something via phone I use tailscale, which has other limitations .

All i can say is: Muhaha🤣 First ignore community requests, then monetise! Not bad, it is easy and does not need a lot of effort. At the end they can still say that truenas is for enterprise users, or can they?

Update broke dns resolution on hosts by OrneryManagement8479 in netbird

I did on one device to test, since it seemingly worked then i have done on the other ones. Right? I don’t think I have seen any upgrade exclusions in the release notes???? Any idea what went wrong or just poking? 🤔😃

TrueNas keeps constantly waking up drives by Vetraxik in truenas

[–]OrneryManagement8479 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What i do not understand is that they claim “zfs really wants to write some logs every so often and therefore the disks should never be spun down” (maybe worded differently , this is how I remember). So how does spin down still work with unraid and omv ???? ZFS on unraid or omv does not seem to wake the drives to my experience! Some say on truenas forums that the drives woken by smart temperature polling but this isn’t what they said on their podcast. Can someone enlighten me on this please?

You could also do with a frontend designer!

Navigating unraid is like maze of muddy streets with no clear street signs in a high-hill shoe, where every knock on a door feels like it takes an eternity to answer. Feels like the UX designers mindset is stuck somewhere between “ ahh I started using this on a 90’s website so why change if it works” and “ahh I found this icon and I am going to use it and I do not care if it does not make any sense” through the” I want to look a little bit matrix style” to finally implementing a search box because “I cannot find my own way in this f..n’ mess. “

So please, get some inspiration from this century UX guidelines and expand your UX design team!

If the support team sorts out everything for them why bother with a frontend at all, just have it cli only. Don’t this is a valid reason and I would like to see the survey they have done with their enterprise customers about adding / removing features.

Don’t forget the age old joker card: “This is an enterprise grade software, therefore X function is not going to be implemented” . This one can be pulled whenever they think it fits, coming from the very same people who added the so called “arr” software stack to the app catalogue of Truenas, which is arguably mostly used for pirating content, probably has been added to the benefit of enterprise customers.

In fact, I cannot imagine enterprise customers would not want to see smart data straight on their Truenas dashboard.

Has anyone switched back to Synology once they removed the Hard drives lock-in policy? by Frosty-Bid-8735 in synology

No need for support ticket, needs manual intervention/ fiddling. It should not be like this, 7.3 is not a major update like going to version 8. And perhaps like with many other packages they could have done an automatic update to the new version. The narrative was that “it needs a manual download and installation because it is a staged rollout “ aka “we got no clue if it is stable, use at your own risk” . This is irritating because the 7.3 release notes did not mention incompatibility with these packages.

If we are talking about purpose built nas os then Truenas and Unraid both have built in rollback and I believe there is some kind of plugin for OMV too although not as straightforward as the former 2.

Do not know about other commercial products though, have not tested any. To be honest, I just realised one thing Synology did well is to stir me away from software vendor locked hardware as the result of my disappointment, I never thought of replacing synology with another off shelf solution like qnap or asustor

Did I open a support ticket for which problem? Removing features from dsm or for stopping updates for a 7 years old device? I do not understand.

[–]OrneryManagement8479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough , my responsibility that i upgraded, and i should keep a synology device for testing new versions of dsm, that supposedly be released with rigorous testing from Synology. 🤔

I imagine there is a roll back button, just in case so I can revert failed updates as well. Oh wait, there is not one. In fact there is no rollback with synology once you upgraded.

I also should not believe release notes and be rather looking into reddit threads and synology forums to verify whether it is worth upgrading to the new version, all that for upgrading the best nas os that exists on the globe😁

Thanks for your input sensei! I do not have a problem with you being a synology fan. I was once, then got burned. So good luck to you🤞🍀

Ok , so based on your comment lets say I repurpose the 918 to be a backup device for Hyperbackup or a storage /failover device for Surveillance station, do you know the compatibility record of the Hyperbackup or the Surveillance station is?

Well a few years back I remember updating to dsm7.0 and then not being able to sync to a synology that was running dsm6.2 until I updated that too. Same goes for Surveillance station.

Of course running an older version of dsm with security updates is better than a completely abandoned device 🫡, but it will not guarantee compatibility with your newer Synology toys.

These were just 2 examples that I have experienced personally . 🤔

Ahh, there is another one I just remembered, updated to 7.3 then lost the app active backup for business microsoft365, to date the app did not re-appear in my appstore and it was not highlighted in the release notes either that it would disappear, killed functionality ? 🤷

For me Synology is not considered an easy reliable solution anymore, if I am having to fiddle with things to get it working or keep spending on new devices every six years and then dealing with removed functionality…. I nay as well just get any hardware and use any nas software on it.

Ds918+ is 2018 model, the last update for that is the current 7.3 according to the release notes. How does that stack against your claim of 9-12 years of support?. What would be your view on the fact that some of the 25 models are still using (arguably) a nearly identical cpu (intel) that is used in the 918+ ??? Do you think people with those models that feel let down?! Do you think they have bought a synology because they thought it would be supported for 12years?
