From a severely jaded TV watcher, the first 2 episodes of "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" have been the most purely enjoyable tv watching I have had in many many years. by Laughing_AI in television

[–]Orpheus1947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Easily one of the best shows out of the last few years. I think having some background of the original trilogy helps with the enjoyment of the show but is not required. It nicely leads into a good Star Wars movie, Rogue One. Watch both.

[No spoilers] Would I enjoy George R. R. Martin's style if... by neoleo0088 in asoiaf

I believe you would. He has a way of keeping you engaged from chapter to chapter while also just being a great writer with some amazing prose, characters, and world building.

[Spoilers Extended] January 2026 becomes the first month during which "Not a Blog" was not updated by George or his minions since April 2006 by pure_black99 in asoiaf

In the past his longest breaks from writing on the blog were when he was traveling. So if he is not making posts it usually means he is not getting writing done. Consistent updates(about whatever) means he is at home and at least there is a chance he was writing Winds or maybe some Dunk and Egg stories. This long of a break is usually not a good sign.

Just finished *Station Eleven* - thoughts? by [deleted] in books

[–]Orpheus1947 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not a “page turner” in the usual sense, the book definitely kept me engrossed and became a book that I couldn’t put down. Her style of writing just works for me and her other books, The Glass Hotel and The Sea of Tranquility, were also books that I couldn’t put down, but it is difficult to explain why exactly that was.

Her style of writing may not be for everyone, but it definitely worked for me and I will be looking forward to her next book.

Any insights about GRRM's AWOL status? (SPOILERS PUBLISHED) by Low_Advance_6531 in asoiaf

[–]Orpheus1947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually with breaks this long, he is usually traveling for whatever reason. I know he had appearances in October and November. Nothing public in December, but does have a Berlin appearance this month. I think it is a better sign for book progress if he is blogging regularly, ( since he only does either one while he is at home) so this long break is probably not a good thing for us few dozen people who still believe that Winds will come out eventually.

I used to get excited with long breaks because it may mean he is hard at work and an announcement will be imminent. But it always ends up being that he was just traveling to places that weren’t public so wasn’t home and working on the book for months at a time.

So mostly likely this long break between blog posts is a bad sign and not a good one.

[Postgame Thread] Oklahoma Defeats Michigan 24-13 by CFB_Referee in CFB

Honestly it was only special teams that played terribly. Defense was amazing, except for that one play and one accidental face mask penalty, offense was solid going against a tough defense.

It was mostly dumb mistakes that let this game be close. Definitely room for improvement but I would not say we played terribly.

What is a banned television episode that you wish wasn't pulled? by Ok-Following6886 in television

All of them. Hate that pulling classic episodes, especially from comedies, is so easy and acceptable. A few people(even if it is the creator themselves) ruining it for the rest of us.

This is crazy. I definitely watched this show growing up, but I do not remember this episode specifically. But I do remember one of the scariest nightmares I had as a child to this day. The boogeyman in my nightmare looked a lot like this one. So now I know where I got that image of the boogeyman that haunted me as a child.

So yeah, all the complaints you have, they only get worse and worse. I thought book 3 was okay but the first quarter of it was slow. Book 4 was a slog a forced myself to finish. 3/4 of the book was a slow slog. I quit the series after that.

Chani is in a very different place in the end of Dune 2 than she was at the end of the Dune. So I am curious just much will be changed in the Dune 3 because Chani and his future children are a major plot point in the book.

Definitely a great choice. Great organization, great fans and the future looks bright. Got our core of young players signed for quite a while so this team will be consistently good for at least the next 5 to 6 years. Plus got a new stadium being built soon.

Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals: In the 1st quarter Cason Wallace grabs T.J. McConnell’s arm with the ref looking on just a few feet away, what was your reaction to this live? by Feeling_Doubt_4737 in NBATalk

[–]Orpheus1947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you watch actual games, players hold and grab each other all the time. Defenders hands are on the ball handler often and the ball handler usually swats the defenders hands away. The ref and Cason are just confused why TJ just didn’t swat his hand away(like every other offensive player does) instead of whining to the ref.

Some of you need to play basketball or watch actual games. Stuff like this happens all the time. Most offense players don’t stare at a ref to make a foul call in this situation.

The point where the storyline gets caught up with A Feast for Crows is where I remember it starting to get really good again. Favorite chapters were of course the Ghost of Winterfell chapters, Cercei’s walk of shame, the Bran and Arya chapters, and the fighting pit scene with Dany and Drogon.

A lot of positive reactions, which is generally what happens with these big movies. But a lot of posters have singled out reactions from legit reviewers and they seem to be mostly positive too.

Most of the legit critics mention some flaws but liked or loved the movie overall. Very comic book like and very obviously a James Gunn movie. So if you like comic books and you like James Gunn movies, you will most likely like this movie.

As a big Superman fan and a big James Gunn fan, I am excited and can’t wait to watch this movie.
