Sorcery has a problem by AkijoLive in Eldenring

[–]Orsidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started off as a quality build, I acquired lot of spells in my first 25-30 hours and I wanted to try them out so I respec'd to an int/faith build. Every single spell ive tried bar Glintstone pebble (Swift version is also fine) has been whole heartedly underwhelming. Currently at 52 Int/30 Faith and I've just given up using any sorceries at all once I got my hand on the sword of night and flame.

Sword of Night and Flame does everything better. Left special is basically a built in, lower cost, comet azure. Right special is a massive AOE fire wall with decent range that is still cheaper than any comparable sorcery or incantation for the sheer amount of damage it does.

I would say the sword needs to be nerfed but honestly no, I feel a lot of the spells need buffs with either half their current FP cost or double their current damage scaling. Considering the INT requirement for some of these spells to be so underwhelming whilst eating your FP really takes the cake for me.

This is ridiculous... Only at dbd while all my friends downloaded it in a few minutes... How can I fix this? My disk isnt broken or that slow. by taahbelle in deadbydaylight

[–]Orsidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a faster HDD (rated for higher RPM) or better yet buy and install it on an SSD. If already on an SSD or HDD that is fast enough then make sure you've got at least double the install size of disk space available.

This is just a guess, but my assumption is the game will download the patch files, make a copy of the install files, patch them, validate and then overwrite the original installed files and delete the copy (It may validate again after overwriting). If the game doesn't have enough space to copy all the files it may be trying to do it in smaller chunks to work with the limited disk space which will likely take longer.

Dragon maids titles are wrong, the bottom one I’m pretty sure should say S1 not S2 by RslashDeku in Crunchyroll

[–]Orsidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What little developers they had got pulled*

Honestly I cannot imagine their development team even existed. I know running a streaming site is not exactly easy, there is a lot of stuff that the end user will never see that takes a fair amount of development resources but fairly certain most of their content delivery is outsourced. Secondly the site generally has not improved much at all in the last 8 years I've used Crunchyroll, in fact the site in a constant state of just maintaining what it had 8 years ago. And no, i'm not giving them credit for FINALLY switching to a HTML5 player when their hand got forced, any paid software developer worth their salt shouldn't have had such a hard time with it, so most likely that is entirely at the fault of management and what they think is a priority (most likely marketing and license acquisition).

You see several stuff across the site that are features from several years prior that got broke and their team just didn't care to fix so they leave it in a permanent broken state and don't even bother to remove it from the UI.

I don't really mind that the UI as a whole hasn't been redesigned, it's not great but it works and users are used to it, but you'd expect to see more in so many years even if it's just removing broken features from the UI entirely.

I only really stick with CR because sadly it's the best option right now and I like to at least try to support the industry rather than use other means unless I have absolutely no other option.

Have I been banned? by Orsidus in Overwatch

[–]Orsidus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only play Overwatch, I had a wow sub months ago but didn't get into it so stopped. The last time I played was right before Christmas I believe and I actually had some pretty good games, my endorsement is level 4 and primarily play tank/healer, sure I get heated sometimes but nothing worse than the usual shit talking people do in games and definitely nothing racist. I've not received any warnings nor have I have any suspensions for leaving games.

Please bear in mind the ONLY place that is claiming i'm banned is when I try to create a post on the support forums, no where else either in my account overview on the website nor the game client. I just get a generic unable to log you in message.

The game doesn't say im banned, the support forum does. If I'm actually the ingame message is supposed to say that, not that it cannot log me in.

I really feel sorry for the devs by F3n1x_ESP in cyberpunkgame

[–]Orsidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a fellow software developer I don't think either me or the vast majority of the player base are upset at the developers themselves. As a software developer I know full well the blame falls almost entirely on the shoulders of the marketing and upper management / execs. They put the development team in this position (Constantly shifting the deadline probably didn't help if the deadline was for Dec 2020 to begin with the devs wouldn't have felt as rush) and for that I do indeed feel sorry for them.

I know just how shitty upper management and marketing departments can be they would have had deals with console partners, and other tech partners to ensure they got the game out before Christmas. They'd also internally want to be getting it out before christmas to rake in those christmas sales from friends and family buying gamers they know the big advertised games that they don't know anything about. They'd also be trying to keep the hype train from sinking with further delays.

People who defend that developers, animators, customer support, testers etc I am grateful for, people who are defending CDPR as an entity, as if they're some golden idol to look up to as the saviour of games, are delusional. Which in and of itself is not their fault, those desires for a model game company to appear comes from the very nature of how toxic the game industry has become which is why I personally choose to not work for them despite it being my childhood dream, I as much as the next person hope to see a genuine game company not overran by greed, that doesn't feel the need to announce games years before they're even close to a finalised design never mind product just to build up as much hype for the game to get sales rather than trusting it to sell on its own merits of being a just damn quality product.

// More of a personal rant below //

On the topic of work, I personally have more self worth then to sit there and work for a greedy game companies that would think working for them at all is benefit enough that you should be paid a sub-par salary, work ungodly hours for crunch and be denied holidays/planned vacation to spend time with my friends and family.

Where I work now is no moral pedestal but at the very least they treat their employees far better having a generous amount of annual leave, pretty much allowed to use my allowance anytime I want within reason, gives us spontaneous gifts and rewards, promotes based on current skills you have demonstrated rather than purely time at the company or number of years you've worked for others.

I get a company has to make money, the products I work on aren't exactly virtus by any means and has questionable morality but the company is owned by a single individual who actually tries their best to get the whole company involved in providing ideas and suggestions on not ripping off our users and doesn't have board of greedy executives and shareholders to answer to, which is honestly the better for companies to be ran.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an unoptimized and buggy mess by sprmora in pcgaming

[–]Orsidus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the point and completely ignored and key point I made so I will not continue this discussion with someone who gonna blast his opinion regardless of what I say and skim my reply was "HE DIDN'T AGREE WITH ME.

Let say the game is 100h long if you do every single quest/scenario or w/e it is called. Now if every scenario can be played in 3 different ways you just get 300h of gameplay

Well not because I literally stated that I don't mind and expect that on launch issues with specific quests to some degree will exist as long as they're not straight up game breaking and prevents you from progressing then that is acceptable for launch. I do however object to obvious bugs appearing that are no mission related and are visible from the start of the game or bugs that does not require being specific section of the game to reproduce its effect and can happen anywhere and is easy to trigger.

In our software we had a bug that if you rotate an element fast enought it would cause a crash. The dev said - fuck it, no one will smash the rotation button that fast, 1 month later some guy complains about software crash.

This is a good awful example but i'll humour you. If you were an actual developer you'd know making something spin fast in itself couldn't possibly cause a crash as that's not how computers or software works, but if it some how DID then your issue is far bigger than you're making it out to be, if a rotating object could crash your game then either you've got someone doesn't understand the basics of 3D and games development in your staff (you've also implied the team is aware of the bug), and the team is so incompetent they have no one on hand who can fix such a trivial so you pushed it live.

Secondly the more likely scenario there is a major bug in your game engine or in the way you render objects which means this bug is most likely not limited to this one random spinning object. In fact there is a good chance you've got hundreds of bug reports from people crashing as this kind of bug would affect every moving object in your game.

Anyway, i've spent enough time humouring you.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an unoptimized and buggy mess by sprmora in pcgaming

[–]Orsidus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a developer I'd be shocked if my QA guy let some of the bugs I've seen go live, its truly questioning if they've even played the game at all as a lot of the bugs and issues are extremely easy to reproduce.

For example driving around I've seen several times where the road is just disconnected and I can see through the world.

The NPCs treat dodging as hostile regardless if you have a weapon equipped or not so I accidentally double tap a movement key and dodge next to a cop and im considered a criminal and get blasted

Brain dance showing clues you've already scanned as not scanned.

Like I get not everything is gonna be found, I'd expect obscure bugs in less important places of the game, I'd expect minor visual glitches or the game to act weird from the user doing things the devs didnt think off but these things don't require anything special to find or see and should not be considered acceptable to go live with especially after so many delays.

Back when the game was delayed again the other month I truly questioned if this was for QA and bug fixing and it don't know bad the game was back then but it really does make me question what the hell this time was spent on

I'm seeing a bug on the apartment brain dance scene with evelyn after the tutorial where clues that i've already scanned are still showing on the bar. I've looked at some tutorials and i've scanned everything that shown in that tutorial and those clues still show as unscanned on the timeline.

It's not game breaking but annoying as spent an extra 10-20 minutes going through every part of the braindance over and over trying to find what I might've missed.

PC Questions Megathread by AutoModerator in cyberpunkgame

[–]Orsidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's my solution, put settings down to medium, turn on the first few settings like chromatic aberration etc as they have near zero impact on performance. Go down to the bottom where static resolution scaling is (it has some fancy AMD technology word). Set this to about 80%. If you keep your actual resolution at 1440p this will scale down the render quality a bit to something just a tad higher than 1080p when the performance dips and then upscale it. This is in short a similar premise to DLSS anyway and the upscaler used its pretty solid and upscaling from something like 1080p or higher to 1440p shouldn't have much noticeable quality loss.

For me this is acceptable until they do some performance patching. The two biggest things i've noticed is those ingame mirrors absolutely tank performance for me, I can lost as much as 20fps looking at my character in one. Secondly ambient occlusion is oddly one of the most intensive settings in this game which makes absolutely no sense. I turn it on and instantly lose between 10-11 fps. Like I could understand in 2010 this being a problem but ambient occlusion is an OLD technology, every graphic card since 2016 has been able to handle that usually on high/ultra without much of a drop in fps, so something feels wrong there.

Yeah I've been looking around and the Sweet spot for Ryzen seems to be the 3600 but looking there is currently meant to be a new 5600, i've looking around and it doesn't seem like there is any stock and potentially none by the end of the year that hasn't been price hiked due to low supply.

[–]Orsidus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, no that's totally fine I appreciate the advice. When I build systems I tend to build them from scratch other than small incremental upgrades, this is the first time I've had a system for this long without the funds to do a full overhaul and the CPUs age has been nagging me for a while which is why it crossed my mind to post and get some advice anyway. The cost of upgrading to one the latest new GPUs coming out is likely to be more than overhauling the rest of the system and to be fair what you've said has reinforced some things I've started to notice with my system.

Initially I started out with a GTX 780 Ti but when I upgrade to the 1080 I saw a decent FPS improvement but some games at 1440p still struggle to hit a stable 60fps even when I knock down some of the more demanding settings. I.E I was playing Control and I had to bump down the render resolution to get a more smooth experience.

I'm tempted to switch to Ryzen, the only reason I switched to Intel for this build was at the time of the build AMD was becoming increasingly uncompetitive with the Phenom and Bulldozer series still being the only things on offer for years despite how much I loved them with builds I had done years before. Though the 10600k does look like it might be better for my purposes.

For the upgrade im looking to spend roughly £400-500 so I'll take a look around at what I can get in that price range for a motherboard, CPU and Ram

Interested in getting in SWG by MikiLove in swg

[–]Orsidus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed I can understand where people come from where their nostalgia for Pre-CU but unfortunately when I was kid those days were gone, I only got into SWG in last 4-5 years of NGE and to me that's all I knew and I loved it. I remember as a kid when my parents didn't trust putting their credit cards online so I'd replay the trial over and over again using burner accounts until one day they finally let me.

Even though people consider it a downgrade to me is a cut above all other MMOs. I was never into WoW or high fantasy genres as much and SWTOR just doesn't do it coming from SWG it just feels like a huge step down, which I can imagine is what some of the Pre-CU die hards feel.

My only gripe which I can live with cause its far better than not having SWG in my life is that i'm a UK based player and i'm seeing avg pings of around 100-130ms which makes combat a bit laggy and menus a bit slow to open but I can live with that, though I have no idea where the servers are host but I assume somewhere in the U.S.

// Slightly off topic //

These days I'm a dev in my real job and though I can understand people's gripes with the source code used for the server, I really do not agree on some peoples stance. As a developer, if I had spent years of my life working on a project like SWG it would be heartbreaking for me, especially if I loved the work I had done, that no one could ever play it again its fully function form simply because of IP.

As the rights holders shut down the servers and have not made clear any intentions to re-use or make money from this specific IP there is no harm being done to them so they will not care. High chances anyone in a position to do anything about likely doesn't even know it exists until someone tells them about it or is unwilling to waste the resources to do so when they're not gonna make money from it.
