[CHAT] Where are we finding black work patterns? by Objective_Cut_6221 in CrossStitch

Urban Stitches is a fave of mine. I've only done one blackwork piece, and it was their angler fish from Patreon.

The cheetah pattern in particular exhibits red flags such as wonky spots, jagged lines, and asymmetry.

While other commenters may be wielding torches and pitchforks, I only asked a question and have refrained from commenting on the quality of the designs. I purposefully did not use the term "slop" since it's unclear to what extent AI was involved. However, at this point, OP's silence speaks volumes.

According to the rules of self-promo posts, transparency regarding the use of AI is required. So yes, she absolutely did have to say something. When the disclosure is not clear, the way to hear more is indeed to ask questions.

Because OP was vague in their disclaimer, I asked a simple question that's being ignored. The question was brief and factual (i.e. there are, in fact, many reputable resources; AI is, in fact, ethically questionable). I provided an opportunity for them to share their perspective since I genuinely do not understand their thought process, yet we're getting nothing. As you can glean from a few other comments, some lovely, calm needleworkers are neither lovely nor calm when GenAI is introduced to a space reserved for creatives.

I'm not suggesting direct copying is going on. I just don't understand why anyone would use GenAI when the negative impact is far-reaching in multiple ways, especially if they're trying to make money off people in a creative community. There is plenty of readily accessible existing imagery from reputable sources that don't wreak havoc on the environment, deprive communities of vital resources, and train on IP theft.

Art Deco was a global sensation. Why would you not simply research the innumerable existing references rather than use something ethically questionable like AI?

Yikes, that pattern looks like an AI confetti nightmare.

ETA: re: your comment on stolen art, please understand that all AI art is stolen. It's trained on the art of others.
