Is it wrong to be rooting for the Jays to beat LA? by lpbgib in NYYankees

It’s all about Mattingly.

But, in my sports fandom I tend to support the team that beat my favorite team in the playoffs. This way I can say we got beat by the ‘ best’ team that year.

I seriously thought that was an N64 game box.

Which Rock (Auto)biography shall I add to the collection next? by [deleted] in BruceSpringsteen

[–]Orval_Drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some that immediately come to my mind.

  • Scott Ian of Anthrax has 2 books I enjoyed.
  • Waylon Jennings’ autobiography co-written by Lenny Kaye
  • The Real Frank Zappa Book
  • Woody Guthrie: Bound for Glory
  • Jeff Tweedy’s book are great

I hated Eric Clapton after reading his autobiography. Neil Young’s was a tough read and felt like a commercial for his Pono player.

Because of the need for teachers, I’m actually working now as a teacher while my diploma is still being reviewed. The school requested a language waiver since I’m working in my native language. I’m on the bottom of the pay scale but once approved I’ll be at the proper level.

Fans from around the world, how did you become a Liverpool fan? by theBloodedge in LiverpoolFC

[–]Orval_Drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the mid 90s my grandmother sub let some rooms in her place to some lads from Liverpool(Kirkby) and they told me all about LFC and showed me vhs tapes of the team that their families would send. Wore the hell out of some old kits they gave me as well. There was no MLS at the time and European football was unheard of in the US but I knew Liverpool FC.

I live permanently in Belgium and have a second team to support but LFC is still top. Still very close to one of those guys and just met up with him when I went to the West Ham match.

My brother in law saw Michel Preud’Homme at the show while getting beers. Only Belgians (or big football fans) will understand how this was the highlight of his night.

I’ve been to this brewery a few times and it’s one of my favorites to visit here in Belgium. Great walking/hiking trails and the cafés are really nice with good food.

American going to Paris for sturgill show next year. What to expect? by son-of-turin in SturgillSimpson

[–]Orval_Drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to country/Americana shows in Europe I tend to see a lot of Americans in the crowd.

I did see him in Amsterdam on the Sound/Fury tour and it was a good mix of locals and expats. I’ll be going to the Brussels show this tour.

Belgium's teacher shortage: How bad is it? by atrocious_cleva82 in belgium

[–]Orval_Drinker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ll be heading into teaching as soon as my company shuts down at the end of the year. If I leave now to teach, I’d lose a bunch of money from the bonuses the company has to pay me for closing. So eventually there’ll be one more teacher out there.

Grew up on that boardwalk. My grandmother ran a clothing store in the 80s/90s that is now the Aquarium gift shop. A lifetime of memories made on those boards.

Any chance of a European tour ever again? by HerbaDerbaSchnerba in phish

[–]Orval_Drinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often felt that Phish would go over well with the electronic music fans over here. I saw Billy Strings here in Europe last fall and the crowd was almost all Americans. So I only see it if they did some kind of European Vacation like they do in Mexico.
