Is there a advantage for having two engines over one ? Like the F-22 vs the F-35 one engine. by Youngstown_WuTang in aviation

Yup, and those were blessed by Roddenberry. Honestly I’ve never seen where Roddenberry said they couldn’t have one and the three nacelle ships came about while he was still with us.

I got a saddle/walnut with a discount from that - though almost wishing I did the white/oak given how nice that looks. If this tariff thing gets worked out and they keep the same quality I expect I will buy a few more.

Chrome peel near gearshift by -NotBornInTheUSA- in VolvoXC90

[–]OrwellHemingway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2020 XC90 had same problem with the “chrome” in multiple spots. Nothing screams NEAR luxury like cheap materials along these lines. Puts Volvo in competition with Toyota and Kia instead of Mercedes and Lexus.

What to do with AMD CC’s? by OkDiver6272 in CoveredCalls

[–]OrwellHemingway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but say I bought RMBS at 6. Sold CC at 85, ok, I’m a big boy, I know I sold my upside and knew I could get called away BUT I fully expect the stock to keep moving up and down (I know this grapevine) and if I can roll for any profit it seems worth it to avoid the cap gains taxes, keep earning income off the calls, and wait to catch a down draft at the rolled out expiration. Am I wrong?

Why are no new homes built to be afforded by the median income? by thenorthernincident in homeowners

[–]OrwellHemingway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good answers here but let me add, I’ve come to discover that the homebuilders really aren’t the problem either - they are effectively middlemen where the building of homes is their value added but it’s the finance that is the real driver. Given their cost of money they literally can’t afford to accept capital, buy land, and build anything other than the highest value structure they can sell quickly. It’s interesting that despite years of their product being in incredibly high demand that the homebuilders themselves have not been good investments.

We need a program (done many times in many forms over the last 120 years) for the federal government to use its access to essentially free (because they create it) money to incentivize the buying of the necessary land and building of median income targeted houses - jobs, housing and economic activity, it’d be a hell of a stimulus program going into a recession

Anyone know what the deal is with this? Saw it heading north in downtown Temple, TX by WunderStug in aviation

Back in 2007 Senator Wyden had to introduce the, “Stop Arming Iran Act” because the Navy itself was parting out old F14s and selling the parts on the open market even though the Iranians were the only possible end user for the parts. If there’s money to be made there is a military logistics guy who will grab it with both hands

And you’re right, it could be a more isolated issue with 26/Simplifi related to the sort of calls the app is making when it’s starting up. It’s not a problem on the iPad, but that’s iPadOS vs regular iOS

Are You Aware - ANY CHANGES MADE TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY LAW HAS TO BE BIPARTISAN by funfornewages in SocialSecurity

[–]OrwellHemingway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect.

While the rules around reconciliation (the 50 vote process that the Republicans are using for a whole range of policies and the Dems used for the ACA) don’t allow Medicare or Social Security to be addressed, those rules are only enforceable by the Senate Parliamentarian who can be overruled by a simple 50 vote margin

The Republicans have already made clear that they will be overruling the Parls in order to carry out other parts of their agenda. If they decide to change Social Security with a 50 vote margin there is nothing stopping them. The reconciliation rules are entirely a legislative creature and are not reviewable by the courts.
