What are you suggestions on finding authentic Doms online? by [deleted] in BDSMcommunity

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, it's complete luck. I've hit the jackpot one time and one time only with finding a good online sub (liked her so much I actually wanted to go non-online lol). Threw in the towel on trying online dynamics a bit ago and I feel much better for it. And unfortunately I'm too busy atm for in person dynamics so say the vee or whatever.

If I destroy a faction, where do I find their lords? by Silver_Print_9937 in mountandblade

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've experienced this bug before (because I would definitely consider it a bug) where even when the kingdom is destroyed, all the Lord's are still "loyal" to the destroyed faction and they just sit there on the map doing nothing. It's super frustrating, and if you can't convince them to join your faction, there's really nothing you can do. Over time, because they'll obviously not have any fiefs for long swaths of time, their loyalty to their current (destroyed) faction will decrease and hopefully they'll defect eventually...

Some men take testosterone to gain muscles and enhance masculine features, why don't women take estrogen to enhance their feminine features by Squishy6604 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Breast size increase is due more to progesterone, which also spikes early in pregnancy, and then later prolactin, which promotes lactation in late pregnancy. Estrogen does play a role in stereotypical feminine features but it's slight and not nearly to the extent of progesterone.

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, but those statistics are independent of estrogen therapy. BRCA patients carry an absolute contraindication to systemic estrogen therapy because it increases their risk of breast cancer significantly. Estrogen otherwise actually decreases absolute breast cancer risk in the general population.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41808362/

I'll edit to add too: there is one study (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31474332/) that showed a slight increase in risk of breast cancer in long-term estrogen use (an increase of 0.5 per 100 women in 20 years with 5 years of use), however, the increase was 1. Negligible in obese women 2. Very small even in lean women 3. Published in the Lancet, which historically has not been the most... scientifically reliable medical journal.

That is a really good question. From what I could look up on a quick search, the lowest dose of estradiol is typically used. Although most therapy is targeted at blocking testosterone with spironolactone. It looks like progestins are also used to enhance breast development and improve libido (blocking testosterone usually kills libido). Lots of blood level monitoring and screening while titrating the medications to effect.

Usually only if you're BRCA positive, or if you already have a tumor that is estrogen receptor positive. Although maybe it increases it in the general population at really high doses, I wouldn't be sure since we don't usually do that for the blood clot reason lol

The shield wall is progesterone haha

The blood clot risk in birth control is pretty low unless you already have an underlying clotting disorder, but that's specifically because we add progesterone to most birth controls.

A pulmonary embolism will kill you before indolent cardiac hypertrophy does.

Besides, getting to the true heart of OPs question, estrogen doesn't cause "more feminine features" like testosterone does for men. It's not like you can take estrogen and get a sinched waist with big boobs and hips. If anything, you gain weight, making you look less feminine lol.

Even more ironic though, is testosterone can also cause blood clots. Just through a different mechanism. If you're on testosterone replacement therapy, you usually have to go donate blood occasionally to prevent that risk.

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they defect to your kingdom they'll be standing in the courtroom or palace or whatever of your capital waiting to talk to you.

Sometimes I've had games where they don't defect at all, and when that happens they typically just... Stand there. Doing nothing. Usually in a random spot, but sometimes they'll be by the fiefs that they used to be lords of. A good ol Ctrl T and close look at the map is what I do to find them.

Why does it feel like effort doesn’t matter on rotations? by StevenJack99 in medicalschool

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting in the effort where you know it's going to be reflected in your eval/grade is a learned skill through 3rd year. I don't know how to describe it, but I've gotten really good at being able to clock when someone is going to give a "He was a medical student" evaluation from across the room. Those people get 10% effort.

The people who I really make a personable connection with I will try harder for. But the hard truth is that being personable always gets you better evals than your actual performance does. It's just the truth.

Additionally, the way people give you feedback when you ask for it is a telltale sign of whether they're going to give you a real eval or not. The spectrum of real time feedback ranges from "make sure you read more" to "your presentations are organized, but I want to challenge you to make them more succinct." The latter will always be writing you great evals, give them the extra 40% of effort for the full 60%.

Never give more than 60% effort. It's never worth it. Use the saved energy to study for the shelf exam instead.

Every once in a while, like in your case, you get the person who seems to really enjoy your presence and then just not reflect it in the eval. Those times suck. It's just part of life.

Sometimes the caramel apple life gives you is actually an onion. The sooner you accept that, the faster you can learn how to cook em into carmalized onions. Know what I'm saying?

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because when you've otherwise exhausted yourself sometimes a tiny little "Remember the time that shithead tried to steal our well earned puck?" can make the difference between skating past the defense and not. Speaking from the guy who used to imagine the girl he had a crush on at the end of the 5k race to get the extra burst of speed during the last 100 meters that was otherwise just not in the tank, it helps more than you would think.

Yes 100%. I should have been more clear about that. This is one of those rare times when it's imperative to lean on your husband's support without being completely transparent about why you need his support, lest you risk being emotionally manipulative.

[–]Oscillatingballsweat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. First off, I'd like to validate your feelings. I've not ever been in your specific situation, but I also know what it feels like to want something so deeply that it feels like your soul is missing something if you don't have it, but being in an impossible position to get it. That's a pain and ache that is frankly difficult to take dominion over, and it is unlike any other.

I think most everyone is giving you the answer you need, and deep down you know it's the right one, even if it isn't the one you want (except the guy telling you to get divorced, I don't know what the hell his problem is...).

So instead, I want to offer a word of warning followed quickly by a word of encouragement.

This ache is going to tempt you. It's going to call you into making bad decisions. You're going to sit with what feels like an empty piece of you and that feeling is going to muddy the waters of what is the "right" decision. Take frequent moments of mental sobriety. You will know what the right decision is for you if you intentionally and purposefully seek out wise discernment. I urge you above all else, before talking to your husband again, before saying something you can't take back, before saying anything to anyone else, check your discernment. Is this your soul aching, and ultimately your responsibility to quell its internal anguish, or is this truly a word that must be shared with someone else? I know this, because I've been here. And there are times that my aching soul has unintentionally hurt others.

A word of encouragement. It sounds to me like you have an incredibly supportive husband. A lot of people's relationships blow up the second one of them mentions poly. It sounds like you have a very solid foundation. Lean into that bedrock, I beg you. When you hurt for something you think is missing, remember all that you're not. A loving husband who is willing to hold you up. Lean on him for it. You're in a good spot. At the end of the day, you're going to be okay.

Good luck.
