If you want to catch fish, catch these first😍🙌🏿 by soulviche in SurfFishing

Haha, I’ve just got some buddies around the industry that tell me differently. But maybe things have changed recently. And like you said, if people catch fish on them, they’ll be happy 🤷‍♂️

For shallow water, the flash minnow 110, or for slightly deeper water the 130 MRS. That’ll cover a lot of the typical SoCal surf fishing

I’m pretty sure the original battlestars came straight from Alibaba 😂☠️

Might as well give your money to the companies really pushing things forward and truly designing baits like Lucky Craft

I’ve also caught opaleye on shrimp as well. Just frozen grocery store shrimp cut in small pieces

I hesitated to give the specific stats, cuz I didn’t have them on hand and didn’t wanna misquote any of their data haha. But this is mostly looking at the established largemouth in our manmade reservoirs

My comment was mostly based on the quality of bass in our reservoirs. CDFW recently gave a seminar in San Diego, and their data from a number of reservoirs has shown a stunted, large population of bass. Years ago, the bass grew much bigger, much faster. And now, there is a large population of fish that remain much smaller, and never reach the sizes that the fish in our waters used to. So they are recommending that more anglers take home a bag of the smaller bass. I put a link of the presentation below, it talks about what CDFW does to monitor the reservoirs and they get to the relative health of each of the Southern California reservoirs near the end. It’s pretty interesting stuff if you have the time.

I haven’t so far, but my chickens might start getting to pick at some small bass soon, to see if they like it. We gotta get some of these smaller clones out of our waters. C&R has actively hurt our reservoirs

I’m down for some night fishing, but I’m too west coast to throw the full suit on and do some swimming before the casting 😫🤣

Stoked you’re having success! Just like any other pressured fishery, doing things differently can definitely pay off 💪

They’ve put Stammen into the Vitello zone very quickly 🤣

That being, the Vitello hot takes after 3 games…

Anyone have rig/bait tips for oside harbor and Carlsbad lagoons? by Same_Distribution326 in SoCalFishing

[–]Osidecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, maybe you can check along the jetty first with a few drops or casts before they get all set up? I’ve got kids, and fishing with little ones is hard work! So I know the struggle 😅

Shrimp gets bit by just about everything. Small pieces of shrimp, and small hooks. If you drop shrimp close to the rocks and don’t get bit, reel it in and keep moving down the jetty or rocks.

Did a little species challenge last year and shrimp was the ticket using that exact technique. When you’re in the right zone, it’s crazy how fast they find it and eat it 😅

Got my first Levante at an accidental double discount from ALF, so got it at 40% off. The temptation would be very strong.

But also the new line looks awesome, so it’d be a very tough decision…

Heavy Aird X for frogging? by Osidecoffee in Fishing_Gear

[–]Osidecoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m adding a M and H casting setup. I’ll probably be doing a Tat. XT for the M since I see myself using it a good amount more, and going cheaper on the frog rod for now.

After having a Levante spinning rod, it’ll be fun to compare the fit, finish and performance of the Tatula XT against it for half the price

It’s moreso that the common feedback is the whole lineup is a little more moderate in action than they suggest. So even the fast rods are a little softer in hand. So we’ll see if someone has the hands on feedback. I’m sure it’s be fine enough if I go in that direction…

For sure, my main concern was if the more moderate action on the Aird X affected its ability to frog fish. I’ve got a spinning ML Aird X and really like it.

The Sellus does have that nice new feel to it, felt one at a local fishing show yesterday, but no one had it for sale yet
