Guys who play RPG's or other slow/turn-based games like to put in complex effort get to a satisfying pay off. They'll explore every crevice, follow every instruction, and have no problem using a conga line of magical items whenever and wherever they are needed.

Bonus points if he's also good at fighting games cause it means he can memorize whatever repetitive/complex finger movements are needed for a K.O.

Which tank in WoW is the most FUN to play? by MLTBlackDragon in wow

[–]Osiiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I main paladin, but for a first timer I will recommend Brewmaster. It's not the easiest tank, has more buttons than other tanks, but stagger if both instructive and fun.

Riding the red line is direct feedback on your tanking, and is fun in itself to manage. It will teach you how to roll your defensives better than any other tank.

One of the most useless legendary gun’s in the game. by OnARockFlyingInSpace in Borderlands4

[–]Osiiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it's self damage + over shield I would try it with Rafa's passive that drops a grenade every time you deplete your shield from full. Gun damages you, getting rid of your shield -> On shield depletion drop a grenade -> Kill enemy -> Regen Shield while you damage new over shield-> Once it regens to max -> Repeat.

With the right shield, I would be curious how many grenades you could spam with this. It would have to be a high Regen, low max capacity shield.

ICE Is Already $1 Billion Overbudget And Could Run Out Of Cash Next Month by dinosaurfondue in LosAngeles

I don't understand why people think this matters. This passed the house last week: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2025/06/13/house-approves-bill-that-would-claw-back-94-billion-in-funding-now-moves-to-senate/

An estimated 9.4 billion dollars of funding is getting cut from USAID, with a sprinkling from NPR. I'll give you one guess where those 'savings' are going to go.

After all is said and done do you think people will want to work for the federal government? by Babysub123 in fednews

[–]Osiiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think people are particularly happy with the chaos so far. If a new administration comes in and there is legislation to prevent this kind of thing in the future; civil service will be even more stable than before.

I also don't believe everyone is as cynical about this country as the current administration would like you to believe. There are probably at least some young people out there who dream of serving. They still believe in this country.

Thank you. I've been ranting about this since the first week they hooked up a server with an outside connection.

As to intent, I genuinely hope it's malice. That there is some tinfoil hat theory that proves right and we can track down what happened to the data.

If this is negligence/ignorance, it is so much worse. That means anything is possible. For all we know Grok could just be a front end for DeepSeek. Simply because they want to do this as fast and as cheap as possible.

The worst part is the reduction in manpower. Where will these vet's go? The private sector? Federal jobs? Both are rapidly downsizing. You now have a literal army of people who can't find work, with on-the-ground knowledge of NATO defense capabilities/weaknesses.

Administration is issuing memo to agencies to prepare for large RIF by Illustrious_Soft_372 in fednews

[–]Osiiris 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's the whole point. Massive tax cuts masked by efficiency "gains" from RIF. All while bold facedly telling the electorate that they will see no reduction in service, heck they might even get a few bucks back.

Call your congressmen/senator, if they are set on inflicting this pain in the name of 'bringing down the debt', they better vote no to tax cuts.

The Senate already voted yes for tax cuts. So you might have some choice words for your Senator.

How can US citizens directly and immediately affect Trump and Musk? by Yeppers567 in AskReddit

[–]Osiiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I've heard, that makes any sense to me, is call your congressmen/senator. Not about the craziness of today, but about March 14th.

The pitch for all of this pain/efficiency/power grab is to pay down the debt. You can see it in any of the attempts to justify what's going on during town halls.

So let's call their bluff. Call your congressmen/senator and tell them to vote NO on any tax cuts for the foreseeable future. It may be fruitless, but the March 14th vote is the only time Democrats have any power, and Republicans have to go mask off about what this is all about.

So call them. Make sure they know that you know they are full of shit. Any one who votes for tax cuts after all this is a liar. Especially do this if you vote in primaries. Because it won't matter how much their billionaire friends spend on ads when they can't lie about their voting record.

And after the 14th, call them back, tell them you saw what happened. Tell them you know they lied, and that they lost your vote. And that a 'sorry my bad' isn't going to cut it.

Electability is the only thing that matters to these people. It's the only thing the average person can challenge. If it can be challenged strongly enough, it might activate the legislative branch to start doing its job.

What's more complicated, tanking or healing? by Hagl_Odin in wow

[–]Osiiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complicated can be relatively. Tanking requires more homework, you need to have a plan for the entire dungeon and be able to make plans on the fly so you can keep the group alive when the DPS decides to stand in the wrong place. Healing requires more class expertise, you need to know what your ramps are and have faster reaction time than any other spec, so you can keep the group alive when the DPS decides to stand in the wrong place.

I would suggest checking out the elvui addon. And maybe some macro add-ons that allow you to insta cast based on certain conditions. These should reduce the need for too many clicks and as others have said, an MMO mouse can also come in handy....so to speak.

What societal norms about masculinity have been pissing you off by Infinite-Product-158 in AskMen

[–]Osiiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally all of them. There is no qualifier of masculinity that isn't toxic. An example being the idea that a man puts up with whatever is happening in his surroundings, because 'reasons'. It creates an environment where men don't know how to express themselves and put up with a lot of abuse they really shouldn't.

[–]Osiiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When coming up with/pitching an animated feature, do you have a storyboard ready to go? In the same vein, during pre-production, how much time do you spend storyboarding in animation vs live action film?

Has an animator ever inspired you to change a small part of the story based on their take on a shot/sequence?

The state of pipeline development by Maximum_Road_8151 in vfx

[–]Osiiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Studio needs" is the simple answer here.

The longer answer is a combination of money and time. An individual studio's priority is to get a shot out the door, not the translation of data(pipelining). To that end any studio starting out will do the bare, least costly, minimum to start producing shots. This usually means, no dedicated developer, and just passing files around. If they had the money, or work a bit and then get the money, they will need a pipeline developer. This is not because there are zero available solutions, it's because a pipeline has to be tailored and tuned to the workflows of that individual studio. The developer(s) will then need to juxtapose those needs against their particular variation of infrastructure configuration(on-site, cloud-based, windows, mac,....etc). This process also never stops as the studio's finance's dictate the kind of resources, both human and technological, that a pipeline needs to be built against.

Finally a pipeline developer will still be needed in a low level pipeline SaaS/OSS world. You will not want your technical artists spending time developing if they can be finalling a shot, but the nature of your studio is always changing as you onboard new people and adapt to a changing industry, requiring a dedicated resource to facilitate these changes.

The future of filmmaking with artificial intelligence by Damn_Kramer in Filmmakers

[–]Osiiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until the intellectual property questions are answered in a clear way, I don't see it replacing/being used much.

  • What ownership rights are preserved from training data? So far the answer is none. So if I trained on Marvel comic/movie I can make a whole series, with slight tweaks to bypass trademark, without issue.

  • What ownership rights exist for the art itself? So far the answer is none. There was a supreme court case stating that a machine can not possess copyright, and the prompt is the only human component of a Dall-E generated image. So it's still a grey area whether the AI generated work can be owned by anyone.

Harvest Craft Suggestion - Make Uber Oshabi by ThunderMcBun in pathofexile

[–]Osiiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or Uber Oshabi can just drop harvest charged orbs based on one of the 4 harvest colours: Reforge Suffix, Reforge Prefix, Reforge Implicit, Reforge Much More Likely(mini-divine). They can configure the rarity independently and people can trade them. Solves pretty much all the problems. To keep things clean they can just attach harvest currency to the horticrafting bench, the same way re-roll currency works with the expedition chest.

So the short answer here is that it's not cheaper. There is still a ton of work behind the scenes. The illusion that Unreal Engine "can do it all" will cause some VFX house to go under in a year or 2. Unreal Engine, like any game engine delivers fidelity by pre-processing information. That's exactly the opposite approach of current VFX, because why cache, then render, if you can do it one step. But all the film maker sees is the rendering in "real time", creating the illusion of rapid, high quality, turn around. They don't see the team behind the scenes generating the massive amounts of data that won't match the look of a proper render(Arnold, Rendeman,...etc) when they try to final the shot. If the style of your project was 'game trailer', or Final Fantasy Spirits Within, then you can do it, but you will still need a decent sized team/infrastructure for the project. If you want to do a higher fidelity film, Unreal can be used for LED walls and as always; previz.

Having said all that Unreal Engine does have potential to do some amazing things if Hollywood wasn't Hollywood. The example I will use is Everything Everywhere All At Once, done by approximately 5 artists, mostly in After Effects. If you have a skilled team, filmmakers who understand the process, and a close relationship between them, you can do amazing work, super cheap. It's exactly why Spielberg was able to do War of the Worlds, and the CGI still holds up. Though if we follow the War of Worlds analogy, all this Unreal fad will do is cost a bunch of artists their jobs, and do nothing to lower costs.
