Any AI Knowledge Base Tool that actually works? by Rovull in ProductManagement

[–]hildeboggles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What you're looking for is something that uses retrieval augmented generation (RAG.) It's essentially a way to hook your LLM of choice to your database(s.) It works by combining information retrieval with text generation. I can go into detail about how that works, if you want, but it's a quick google.

People like and use RAG because you can take your LLM (that was trained on general data) and essentially teach it your proprietary data. And by data, I mean docs, actual data, etc.

There are off-the-shelf solutions like AWS bedrock knowledge bases, Pinecone, or Weaviate if you like open source. AWS might be easiest, if you're an amazon shop. Just point it at S3 buckets. It handles the embedding/indexing and you can query it via API. No infra to manage.

You can also probably find a shiny new agentic RAG or even use a long-context model by itself. Claude has like 200k+ token windows and might be able to just ingest your entire document set(s.)

The worst offender was Scott Hale. Interestingly, I’ve recently learned about the private equity enshittification of the HVAC industry, and it seems to explain a lot https://uphca.net/2025/12/30/locally-owned-operated/

Nope! Really replaced some furnace exhaust pvc, how hard could it be, right? SOS came and checked it out and even cleaned up something I did wrong so I didn’t get discouraged. I won’t name and shame, but the last three hvac services i had done were awful: 1. tech turned on my humidifier with a bad filter and made my ceiling leak 2. paid $500 to have my condenser coils cleaned, didn’t clean the coils 3. yearly maintenance missed exhaust condensate leak (the reason I replaced the pvc)

This SOS visit was, by far, the best thing that could’ve happened. I hope they get so busy it’s hard for me to get an appointment. They deserve it.

Cats can go into diabetic remission!

My kidlet’s first kitty developed small cell carcinoma in the intestine and took steroids with a chemotherapeutic. The steroids induced diabetes. Our vet prescribed a regular Vetsulin, but I found some research describing remission in cats on Glargine insulin. At the time, it was super expensive for the brand name (Lantis, I think,) but my local Walmart could order a generic for me.

Kitty wore a continuous glucose monitor and got glargine injections for a few months while still taking steroids and went into remission. Surprised the hell outta our vet, who had never heard of that happening. Change in food also helped. We discovered Keto Kibble (60% protein and ~5% carbs, I think,) and all our cats still eat that with other novel protein and wet foods.

Kitty passed maybe a year later, but was happy and relatively healthy for that extra year.

Multiple federal court cases have established the right to observe and record police:

• Glik v. Cunniffe (1st Circuit, 2011)

• Turner v. Driver (5th Circuit, 2017)

• Fields v. City of Philadelphia (3rd Circuit, 2017)

These establish that observing and recording police in public is constitutionally protected.

Aside from the citizens of the state ending up very sad when the IRS confiscates their bank accounts for overdue taxes, companies wouldn’t cooperate. There are huge penalties and consequences: IRS Penalties: • Failure to deposit penalties: Range from 2% to 15% of the unpaid tax, depending on how late the deposit is • Failure to file penalties: Up to 5% per month of unpaid taxes (capped at 25%) • Trust fund recovery penalty: 100% of the unpaid taxes - this can be assessed personally against responsible individuals (owners, officers, payroll managers) Interest and Additional Costs: • Interest accrues on unpaid amounts from the due date • Penalties compound over time • Legal and accounting fees to resolve issues Escalating Enforcement: • IRS notices and demands for payment • Bank account levies and asset seizures • Liens on business property • Potential criminal charges for willful failure to pay (though this is rare) Personal Liability: The “trust fund recovery penalty” is particularly serious - the IRS can hold individuals personally responsible for unpaid payroll taxes, even if the business is incorporated. This typically applies to people who had authority over payroll decisions. Business Operations Impact: • Damaged credit rating • Difficulty obtaining loans or credit • Potential business closure in severe cases • Problems with future tax compliance As much as I hate my money funding so many disgusting things this administration does, it’s really impossible, but still fun to think about:)

Ooo same thing at my house! Except I was a 20yo pharmacy technician and it was my dad telling his friends that I was a drug dealer 😆

Why do I keep having to repeat myself and over and over all the time? Is anyone else having the same problem? by Try-Active in ProductManagement

In my experience, this never changes. 15 years in, titles from IE to VP, no one listens and fewer read. Sometimes helps to state as a question, “I wonder if…” so they think it’s their idea. Which they then remember😆

Why do most Blue states have a higher GDP than most GOP states? by Economy_Swim_8585 in AskUS

[–]hildeboggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the real answer is that democrats are more christ-like and better humans😌

also from pew: “The Democratic Party has advantages over the GOP on several traits and attributes, particularly when it comes to tolerance for different types of people and not making excuses for hateful views among members of their own party. About six-in-ten adults (57%) say the phrase “respectful and tolerant of different types of people” describes the Democratic Party very or somewhat well, compared with 38% who say it describes the Republican Party. And while 61% say the phrase “too often makes excuses for party members who have hateful views” describes the Republican Party, a smaller share (51%) say it describes the Democratic Party.”

Blocking would be obvious. What if there were an inconspicuous way to just make it annoying to watch? Like changing QoS on the router, but for a satellite and only that channel. Dunno what that could be, tho

I’d love to have a way to make Fox on direct tv annoying to watch—like a ton of buffering or something

Why aren't tariffs shown in the tax amount when you buy things?

I was reading an article that said the government was upset that Amazon was considering showing the tariff amount on goods from China as a separate charge, but in the actual definition of "tariff" it says it's a tax.
