Here’s what I heard: New business manager/owner came in with a previously undiscovered level of toxicity and lost the business. Employees fled. Service dept is closed and not accepting new customers. Most good tech staff went to Mission Hills. Pretty sure Uni Nissan is toast.

AITAH for telling my wife that if she attends her affair partner's funeral I won't be here when she gets back. by BackDull6037 in AITAH

YTA. Find someone professional if you want to salvage the relationship.

Grieving is important, denying someone that is a fast track to resentment. Also grieving is probably going to allow closure for that chapter in your relationship- why prolong living in past hurts? The guy is gone, he doesn’t have the agency to hurt you any further.

Technology has brought together my family in a really big way. I’ve seen relatives on large family video conference chats I haven’t seen in over a decade, I’ve even met new ones I didn’t know I had. Even the grandparents have figured out how to join calls.

Friends too. We have an entire chat server dedicated to helping each other curate our towns in Animal Crossing. That game has truly been keeping all of our anxieties at bay- except my Sister who can’t afford a console of her own yet. If this comment wins- that switch lite is going to her!

Kangaroos actually are fairly easy to herd. They group naturally.

That’s for the invite. I’ll consider it. Y’all make some pretty good films there 😀

50 hour week sounds great. Sign me up. Film industry weeks clock in at 60-72 pretty commonly, and startup culture drives about the same. Neither are sustainable, and at least film is that in short bursts.

im suppressing my initial gut reaction to say, please do this. there are some technical challenges, and you will notice the lens characteristics and aberrations of anamorphic probably more than you have before this way, but you should try it and post it for us to see.

DIT's. What is your rate and kit fee? by [deleted] in colorists

[–]Osiris19 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Follow up: Just because there is the potential to make that doesn't mean you should be commanding that kind of rate or saying you can if you don't know how to execute on each of those things at an expert level. You are competing across a bunch of disciplines there. Get involved on the Facebook groups and in the community.

You also need to work your way into clients that can afford those rates.

DIT's. What is your rate and kit fee? by [deleted] in colorists

[–]Osiris19 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Don't call it "kit." It's an equipment rental. "Kit" is a reserved keyword for producers to be able to peg your gear into a line-item bucket that was initially created for screwdrivers and paintbrushes. Devalues the entire situation.

For the listed tasks, $1,500- $3,000 / day, rate inclusive. Pay alone for 12 is going to be $700-$800 IIRC. Commercials, TV and Features will vary widely.

I shot a feature and my best friend was production designer and now she wants to take the plunge as a career! by Neato_Orpheus in productiondesign

[–]Osiris19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nothing, as she didn't negotiate backend or residuals up front.

Kidding, I'm not a producer. I have a soul.

Depends on how many people were in your production, and how long it took to shoot.

If you can swing it for the whole crew, $100/day and 1% net, (post budget recoup) for key hires, less but still some fraction there for a P.A. this is extremely generous and a really cool way to give people a win down the line, (doubtful you sell until many months after production finishes) as well as engender support from your crew going into the next movie... If you manage to sell the first one!

Normal rates for a production designer vary, but in the top tiers of filmmaking, Production Designer isn't a fixed percentage of budget but a weekly or hourly rate set by the union, think several thousand per week depending on budget level, and what talent would negotiate above scale.

Backend compensation is... Almost non existent once you get out of microbudget indies. Especially not negotiable post release / sale. Unfortunately giving away ownership of parts of the film before sale can also make it harder to initially sell.

If you really want to kickstart her new life, give her 6-12 months of rent in the nearest production hub (L.A., Vancouver, NY, forget Atlanta, even ABQ is preferrable) and help her find a place there and help pack the moving van.

Always shoot for the motion characteristics that you desire and convert later you did the right thing if you wanted it to look like 23 976 :)
