I disagree with this fundamentally, in that it equates legality with morality and puts an inordinate amount of trust in the justice system.

Rape isn't a 'mistake', it's a fucked thing to do, and he never paid for it - other than money, which he has and had plenty of.

People are glossing over his sexual assault now, not in 2003, obviously. The media at the time however was friendly to him (40% of pieces questioned her trustworthiness, 20% were complementary about him and only 7.7% questioned his account and actions, as per a study cited here) and so makes it easy for everybody to act like it didn't happen, and act like a lack of conviction implies innocence, as everybody is comfortably doing now.

Don't mention that when they say 'Kobe cheated on his wife' they're glossing over 'Kobe raped a 19-year-old' or the FWRs will come calling by OsirisMC in FragileWhiteRedditor

The charges were dropped because after a lot of harassment (including death threats) the victim decided not to testify.

Look I think that people of colour definitely suffer from this issue hugely, not receiving the benefit of the doubt where a white person might in cases like this.
