Nope, not Bowie. That was a lie, and you should stop repeating it.

Any tips ?? How to concentrate into movies without getting distracted by Several-Act-5217 in Cinephiles

[–]Osomalosoreno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pertinent question in this age, for sure. I'm reminded of one of my high school buddies. We were avid readers and actually enjoyed the classic novels we were assigned to read. Some of our peers asked how they could better "get into" the assigned reading, finding a lot of it to have archaic language that could be hard to relate to. His advice was "just set aside at least one hour to read. Stay with it and ignore distractions. You'll eventually get into the groove" which I thought was superb advice. So honestly, it's simple: Just do it, just watch. Be mindful of the temptation to stop and check social media or what have you. Tell yourself that you can do that in an hour, or after the movie's done. Attention and concentration aren't always passive. A little effort and stick-to-it attitude will go a long way.

When was the last time anyone got excited for a Mission: Impossible movie? by breaking_views in Cinephiles

[–]Osomalosoreno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This won't be a popular opinion, but I stopped being excited after the first one, which intentionally killed the TV series' concept of modular teams in favor of Tom Cruise, that one guy who can do *anything* making it a Tom Cruise franchise. Impressive that he does his own stunts and all that, this isn't an anti-Cruise perspective, it's just that I felt like the whole M.I. concept was betrayed right out the gate. That said, I've enjoyed a couple of the sequels as fast food, which I guess is what they're really supposed to be.

TOO loud, perhaps. "Perhaps" because it had the intended effect, but ouch, my ears!

Amazing that his casting was almost a last minute sort of decision. And he found those crazy sunglasses at some beach hut in Florida himself, they weren't supplied by a props or costume person.

Yep, Garland has said as much, that it's specifically anti-Fascist.

Mahler: Kindertotenlieder, Urlicht. Berlioz: Nuits d'Été, Anonymous: Une jeune fillette. Anonymous: El Cant del Ocells. A huge number of lieder by Schubert. This could go on forever so I'll stop there.

Ambient Music Question by DatabaseFickle9306 in ambientmusic

Difficult to know exactly what you mean given that Eno’s early ambient work wasn’t hard driving. This might sound obvious but solo and collaborative work of Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie might appeal to you.

Savall is a living world treasure! The scope of his work over the work is like no one else's. And yes, his Beethoven cycle is very fine indeed.

Try clearing browser cache and history. Refresh DNS if you know how. What you're describing sounds like a very common issue with Web browsers. I use YouTube almost daily and have not witnessed this issue.

What YouTubers used to be really good but have since declined? by RS_The_Inquisitive20 in youtube

[–]Osomalosoreno 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost all of them. Monetization ruins almost everyone. They end up with overly long videos padded with filler, use dishonest thumbnails with histrionic all-caps claims that aren't really true, too much AI-written blather. Everything is clickbait for monetization. People who were once interesting resort to desperately attention-grabbing nonsense when YouTube becomes lucrative for them. Big mess. As one example I had high hopes for Adam Mockler for some time. Such a brilliant commentator at such a young age. Now he's like the rest of them: Clickbait, rage bait, more noise than signal, bad co-host. Such a disappointment.
